16 Off the Beaten Path Attractions in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)
"Grim but educational, this museum lays out the punishments and tools used throughout history — from hanging cages and guillotines to an iron maiden and skull crusher — and provides detailed histories (including myths about medieval justice); I’d call it fascinating but recommend leaving young kids at home." - Matthew Kepnes
The displays were great. It was quiet and you had ample time to see everything. There were some really great displays, as well. But some of them were, at best inaccurate. It would have been great to see some history of the displays that were genuine pieces of history.

Small, not a lot of items in the exhibit.. takes about 20minutes to do the tour.
Its a good place to have a look if you want to waste some time around the city.

I visited the same in Brugges (Belgium) and I enjoyed better in Brugges due to the space and size. Anyway, if you are in Amsterdam with no plans to visit Brugges, them make the visit.

Interesting items to view, but far too dark to see properly or read the information. €9.50 and it only took ten minutes to walk through.

Super cool museum in Amsterdam. Definitely worth checking out paid €9 per adult. Lots of really interesting facts.

Quite small. No real ambience. Other similar museums have sound effects to add some more drama like olden days noises, screams etc. It was smaller than I imagined. Left feeling a bit under whelmed. Thankfully reasonably priced at €9

A historical, fascinating and disturbing place. A quaint and cozy museum perfect for anyone interested in medieval torture methods. It wasn't too busy when we went on a Saturday evening. Overall wonderful! Also the information was in various different languages which was helpful! It opens till 11pm so there's plenty of chances to visit here.
