A Must-Visit in San Miguel de Allende We had the most unforgettable lunch at Tostevere—a true highlight of our time in San Miguel. I originally had an evening reservation but mistakenly booked it for 5:15 instead of 7:15, which didn’t work with our plans. We thought we’d missed our chance, and since it was possibly our last day, we decided to swing by just before 2 PM, right before opening, to try our luck. As fate would have it, a very kind man walking in—Miguel, who we later found out is the owner—welcomed us warmly and said he’d absolutely find us a table. He seated us at the perfect window-side table for two, and from that moment, everything was magic. We started with drinks: my mom had a margarita she said was the best she’s had not just in San Miguel, but possibly ever. I had a refreshing tequila soda with fresh lime. We then shared a few dishes—each more delicious than the last. The soft-shell crab wrap was phenomenal, the pulpo tostada was bursting with flavor, and the Peruvian ceviche was fresh and bright. We finished with a banana dessert that was absolutely divine. Miguel is one of the kindest, most genuine hosts we’ve ever met. I told him the restaurant felt like home—it’s beautifully curated, warm, and welcoming. Our server, Lolita (who Miguel has known for over 20 years), was equally wonderful and added so much joy to our experience. We hadn’t even planned to come—and now it’s one of our favorite meals anywhere. We’re even heading to Miguel’s Mediterranean-Lebanese spot, Boca Ciega, tonight because we trust anything he’s behind. If you’re in San Miguel, Tostevere is an absolute must.

Our first visit to SMA. This was our favorite restaurant so far. Atmosphere and service was what made it so special. Food was awesome too. Definitely make it part of your plans!

Google
Such a cute spot, small space so make sure to make reservations ahead of time. The food was so delicious, if visiting or if you live in San Miguel de Allende check this place out.

Google
We came here because it was so highly recommended to us, unfortunately. we were very disappointed. It started good with the seared tuna tostada and the beet salad. They were expensive but tasty. Then I ordered the tempura shrimp tostada, and when it arrived, my heart sank. The shrimp were coated in what looked like beer batter. The batter was thick and greasy, nothing like tempura at all it was also really lacking flavour. My wife ordered the short rib and half of the meat was grisle and fat. This should not happen anywhere at any price given the level of prices here it is inexcusable. The plates did come out looking very well presented although there was a liberal use of salad greens. We will never return.

Make sure to make a reservation cuz this place is not to be missed. With small menu of tasty things you will want to try a little of everything especially the cocktails 🍹

Google
The food? Amazing! The cocktails? World class! Honestly... you need to visit this restaurant to truly enjoy the culinary scene of this city. Its a visit you definitely need to make.

Google
We had a reservation last night and this place is Very cozy. However the food was ridiculously fantastic. I forgot to take pics before eating everything, but managed to take a few. We had the Roasted Beet salad, the Soft Shell Crab Wrap, the Truffled Esquites Tostada, and the Roasted Cauliflower Tostada. Then for dessert we had the Balsamic sauteed figs with ice cream. Yum, yum, yum. 🤩 For drinks we had the Smoky Mezcal and the Black Mamba. Enjoy the few pics I managed to take. Met some awesome folks while dining and their cute baby boy that had our waitress giving him little winks and making him smile from the attention. We definitely ate a lot of food, but it was so good and no regrets. 😁

Tostevere will be the first restaurant we make a resy at when we return to San Miguel. There are a lot of great restaurants here, but the food and more casual vibes combine to make it our favorite place to enjoy a meal. The sweet potato fries set the tone and each course thereafter will delight all of your senses. Enough reading, go make your reservation!!!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I ate at in Mexico! The food was so fresh and delicious! The atmosphere was not one of the rooftop terraces as common in this town, but rather the ground floor and still cozy and cute. We got one of the mezcal cocktails which was topped with egg white foam and was the best mezcal cocktail I had potentially ever? The tostadas are to die for! We got the cauliflower one as well as the octopus one and they were so flavorful and just overall the best! Must try in San Miguel!

Yelp
Unbelievable!!! This place is worth traveling from across the world to visit. Unbelievable flavors and fresh, inventive ideas. Some of the best food I've ever had. It is small so make a reservation. You will not regret it!

Christine S.

Yelp
Amazing gem! We came at 3pm on a Saturday and luckily snagged a spot at the bar. If you have a big group you'll need to get a reservation in advance as the place is really tiny and popular. Everything was so tasty, including the drinks. FOOD - Soft shell crab wrap - Shrimp tempura taco - Peruvian ceviche tostada - Sirloin and melted cheese tostada DRINKS - Passionfruit margarita - Basil sour

Bob U.

Yelp
Definitely the best meal I had in SM, at any price point. I had a list of restaurants to try during my month here and this was at the top of the list. And I was not disappointed. The menu is pretty small, and they seem to specialize in tostados, I had memorized the menu before I got there so I was ready haha. I started with the roasted beet salad, which was amazing. Warm roasted beets, toasted nuts (pine nuts?), greens, cheese (goat cheese?). So good. Followed it up with a grilled octopus and then seared tuna and avocado tostados. They were amazing as well. Figured I had to try the Black Mambo drink, which didn't disappoint. I will be back in SM next month and will make sure to return to Tostevere!

Kathy C.

Yelp
The food was great and the staff equally as fabulous. It has a very limited smile menu and the venue itself is extremely small, maybe 30 people at the same time. Make sure to get a reservation. Their food is fresh and delicious. We enjoyed every sumptuous bite plan ahead and get on over there!

Jean Y.

Yelp
We were fortunate that our friend booked this place in advance. It is a tiny place that specializes in tostadas. The host was very affable and giggled all night. He was such a cheerful man. Most importantly the food was amazing! I've never had tostadas like this before and I've lived in California. The roast beet salad - superb! The grilled vegetables. Short rib, octopus and tuna avocado tostadas - were all delicious! Portions are generous!

Tony A.

Yelp
This little neighborhood bar is SO cool. They don't have many tables (reservations recommended) but their food is outstanding. Their drinks are also incredible.

Madeline S.

Yelp
Best Meal I have had in San Miguel. Go with a big appetite so that you can try as many of the amazing things on the menu as you can. Lychee martini and passion fruit margaritas were insane. Every tostada was incredible. Service was amazing. I had originally called to try to get a reservation for a group of 9. They told me they had no availability, but that they would call me if something opened up. I am so grateful they called and squeezed us in because it was a truly incredible experience. If you can get a table, this restaurant is a must.

Yara E.

Yelp
Dining at Tostevere was such a wonderful experience. My friend and I were visiting San Miguel for a few days and wanted to find a casual spot to grab a bite to eat. It's a small intimate space, but adorable and I appreciated the little nook in the corner that had cookbooks on display. (They had the Franklin BBQ book, so it was nice to see a little bit of home here.) We didn't have a reservation but walked in sometime before 8pm and had no issues getting a table. There were a few folks sitting at the bar and others already dining, so it was a good sign that people were enjoying the food end experience. Everything on the menu sounded great. I got the tuna tostada and my friend ordered the taco tatemado de camarón tempura and the tostada de esquites entrufados, but we shared that one and sweet potato fries. It was plenty for two, and we likely didn't need the fries. Prices were affordable and it was also a pleasant surprise that they took credit cards. If you're looking for a delicious, no frills dinner, look no further.

Divine H.

Yelp
This is a small super quaint restaurant with excellent food and service Almost everything on the menu is grilled and good portions, so sharing is a good idea. Ingredients were fresh and presentation was stellar. I don't eat beets but what ever they did to this roasted vegetable plate was amazing. The soft crab taco was so good, and the sauce that accompanied it was so delish. No disappointments here!!

Laura G.

Yelp
Made a reservation here a month in advance only to arrive and they had given our table away. They said it was because we were late but the people they sat at our table were already being served. If you decide to reserve here make sure you have a backup plan as it was tough to get reseated as a family of 5 with a baby.

Terry T.

Yelp
Small but charming restaurant in SMA. Incredible food. Incredible cocktails. Great service even at the bar. Make reservations, one day in advance only a couple of bar seats were open. Still a great place to eat and watch the bartender create her magic.

Julian S.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall, but they do everything well. Not much on the menu, but it's all choice. Very original (both the food and the drinks). Asked the staff for recommendations and they steered me right. And don't underestimate the kitchen -- the menu might be small, but we walked out very satisfied.

Michele S.

Yelp
Very small restaurant that makes a huge impact. Excellent, creative tapas size plates, good service and friendly Staff and patrons

Moshi M.

Yelp
Ambience. A Service. A Food/ Drinks. A Price. A What a great Little space for Fab bespoke foods and handcrafted drinks! Limited seating ...so, go early or for lunch to score a table or sit at bar. Staff is very attentive and friendly. English menu translation is available. Every dish I've had or experience is delicious and love the drinks. I haven't experienced one bad issue coming here twice. I'm a Fan!

Ben V.

Yelp
We had a truly exceptional meal. Both entrees had a layering of flavors that I have never experienced before, we would take a bite, exclaim about how good it was and then some other flavor would hit and we'd exclaim again from that same bite.

Ajay K.

Yelp
SMA is filled with restaurants that are heavy on style (decor, vibes) and meh on substance (the actual food). Thankfully, tostevere is not one of those insta traps! Every single dish and drink we had here was amazing. Special shout outs to the the corn/truffle tostada and the soft shell crab taco! Space is limited so try to get a reservation ahead of time if you can!

Farrah F.

Yelp
This was right around the corner of our Airbnb. It is a cute small restaurant with a bar. Carajillo- Wow this drink blew my mind its belongs in a fancy top rated bar drink taste is excellent!! one of the best coffee alcoholic beverages I have had. Ordered shrimp tempura taco, roasted beet salad, truffle esquite tostada, sirloin steak cheese tostada.

Tom S.

Yelp
Food was amazing; best meal we had in SMA don't think about just go make sure to book

Dylan S.

Yelp
So delicious, vibe was awesome with chill music, mellow lighting and the food was beautiful. Every dish and cocktail was fully instagram worthy and more importantly, delicious! The soft shell crab wrap was mega and my favorite cocktail was the Black Mamba, a balanced mezcal cocktail. We sat at the bar and Andres the bartender was an artist with every drink and a total legend. Hood vibes! Highly recommend for sharing dishes with friends.

Renee H.

Yelp
My absolute favorite in San Miguel! Everything about this place is fabulous. Tiny and quaint, excellent service, fabulous drinks and the best food around. Get the spicy mezcal with coconut cream. It's perfect. My favorites for food were the cauliflower tostadas and by far the esquites. Honestly I want back again just for those and they even gave me tips on how to recreate that at home. I would go here anytime, it's that good!

victoria p.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in all of SMA. The seasonal menu is a delight, and every single thing on there is worth ordering, with the soft shell crab and tempura shrimp taco being our favorites. The mixologist is a gem and crafting some amazing cocktails. The waitstaff is attentive while not overbearing and we never felt rushed. Can't wait to go back on our next visit!

Mandy W.

Yelp
Best restaurant we experienced in San Miguel. We made reservations at 1400 for a late lunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. We had two tostadas, tuna and octopus, and the ham and mozzarella pizza. The interior is small and beautifully decorated, perfect for a cozy lunch or dinner. Make sure to make reservations or try to walk in early for a spot at the bar. Fantastic meal!

Jack D.

Yelp
Had a difficult time getting a reservation - but well worth the wait. Our server was delightful and took the time to explain everything. My beet salad was the best I've ever had - anywhere! I had the Octopus Tostada, which was wonderful and husband had the steak sandwich - which he loved as well. The owner was very welcoming and spent time with everyone - not that there are that many people in the place - it's quite tiny, but quite cozy. On our "return next year" list.

Alex N.

Yelp
Our favorite meal in San Miguel! The restaurant is small and intimate and every tostada we ordered was delicious. Definitely order the sirloin, beef short rib and roasted corn tostadas.

Hisham G.

Yelp
You need to make a reservation. They have limited seating and hours. I can't recommend this place enough. They have great drinks and the food is fantastic. The service is also first class. We are coming back here again and again and again. You should too.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Amazing! Chose things I never had and it was wonderful. Like a party in my mouth. Beautiful presentation! Great service. Small so make reservations, if possible. Ask for an English menu.

Matt S.

Yelp
This small little joint packs a BIG punch with taste and creativity of the menu. A very very nice staff, small little cave-like interior and close to town.

Bre M.

Yelp
This was by far my favorite place in San Miguel. I stumbled into this place after looking on Yelp, and I'm SO glad I did. The prices are AMAZING! And the food is even better. I had one of the best cocktails of my life there (and it was like $7 by US standards). I will be back because there is more food I didn't get to try! The restaurant is really small, so the best time to go is around 2:00-3:00 when it's still quiet. There are several bar seats and probably..... 8 tables? I was always seated immediately when I came in the afternoon. I went a couple times....

Kim H.

Yelp
Was difficult to get a reservation but well worth the wait. The ambiance was peaceful and elegant. The wait staff was efficient and friendly. But the real star was the food. The Esquites was one of my favorite dishes EVER! I can't even describe how flavorful and satisfying it was!

Mark R.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Miguel. The food is always fantastic, the vibe is so cool and trendy, and the service is friendly.

KC C.

Yelp
This is my cousin's favorite restaurant in in the whole wide world, and I have to agree, it's pretty darn good. The food is absolutely delicious and the service beyond great. I forgot our server's name, but he was a gem. I will say, this place is very small and has just 5-6 tables, and 3-4 seats at the bar. The ambiance is very lowkey but vibrant at the same time. I would recommend ordering a bunch of plates to share, and then order a duplicate for the ones you like, which will be pretty much everything. We had about 5-6 dif dishes and ended up ordering a duplicate after. Their bartender is awesome serving up some great craft cocktails. Can't name all the dishes, but just show your server my photos; you will not be disappointed. Would definitely come back here again. One of my favs in San Miguel for sure!

Judy H.

Yelp
Fabulous food, service and wonderful atmosphere. Miguel and Allie both knew the menu inside out. I'd wish we had k able to get another reservation. The beet salad and the crab were both amazing

Chioma I.

Yelp
The second time was the charm. I tried coming one night after reading some good reviews but they were packed and the wait was 2 hours. Undeterred, I came back the next day as soon as they opened for lunch and got a walk in spot at the bar. The bartender was super friendly. I ordered the truffle esquites and sweet potato fries. The truffle esquites weren't very good. It was a ton of corn with a dollop of cream on top and it lacked seasoning. For dessert, I tried their balsamic glazed figs with ice cream. It was good but there were a lot of figs and sauce and I could have done with less. If you're wondering why the four stars, it's for the service and the sweet potato fries which were excellent - the perfect balance of crispy and soft and impeccably seasoned. I would go back just for those fries and to try the crab soft shell wrap which also sounded good.

James S.

Yelp
This is a small, cozy little spot, but the ambience is wonderful and the food is fantastic as are the cocktails. Try the lychee martini. The softshell crab tacos were to die for as well.

Will S.

Yelp
Couldn't recommend this place more highly. Wonderful food, staff, and service. Stumbled upon it walking around for dinner and came back for lunch we loved it so much! Favorite meal in SMA by far!

Carlos T.

Yelp
The Trucha Salmonada is the best thing I've eaten in quite sometime! The mixologist, Andres, is quite the artist, try his mezcal drinks!

Cammy K.

Yelp
Loved the creative food and flavors. Highly recommended. It is a small place so book a reservation. Drinks are amazing too.

Caroline T.

Yelp
The soft shell crab was sooo good! Crispy and delicious, the toppings complimented the wrap perfectly. Price was very reasonable and I was in a hurry and the service and time was excellent. Also loved the passion fruit water. Highly recommend!

Elena E.

Yelp
Delicious! Came around 2:00 and was able to sit at the bar without reservation. Ceviche tostada was a hit!

Sandybell R.

Yelp
A really great spot in perfect location easy to walk to front the city center. Has amazing food with vibrant flavors it's a must stop place. Great vegan options!! The avocado tostada was so rich, much more to it than just avocado. Their drinks were to die for! The service was lovely. Look forward to coming by again!

Vanessa P.

Yelp
Omg the food is delicious here. Definitely a must when in San Miguel. Even my children enjoyed it and they are picky. They do not offer a kids menu but they ordered the shrimp tacos and steak and cheese tostada and were very happy.

Mayra M.

Yelp
Delicious everything was perfect and flavorful my bf and I had the squid, esquite (corn), cauliflower, crab and pork all to die for the drinks were amazing had the Lychee martini and a Smokey mezcal drink delicious the service was excellentand the ambience was perfect sat at the best table in the little restaurant with the best view, will definitely be back when in San Miguel de Allende.

Marcella L.

Yelp
I have been trying to duplicate the smokey mezcal drink.... sooo good. i wish I had asked the ingredients! all of the drinks were delciiius but this one stood out. the food was phenomenal, service was outstanding. great spot

Robert H.

Yelp
Five stars for QPR ratio. Great tapas style food; inventive cocktails. Very small space, get reservations if you can.

Hector C.

Yelp
the restaurant is very small, the location is very good, the food and the service the best. everything is super delicious .. Remember to be generous with your service. 15 to 20% tips.. El restaurante es pequeño, pero el sabor que le agregan a su comida es muy grande, el servicio es de lo mejor, recuerden ser generosos con el servicio..

Blake F.

Yelp
The food is presented incredibly ornately, which is only elevated by the taste. Well spoken staff, polite quick. Incredible drinks and quaint ambience. I would say this is my favorite spot recently. This may be a hole in the wall but it's a unique gem that anybody visiting San Miguel should experience. Five stars!

Oliver O.

Yelp
Super cute place with very limited seating which adds to the uniqueness. Service was best we had in all the restaurants we tried and the food was really great. Quality service and quality food. Would recommend reserving a table

Frank M.

Yelp
Hey hey. Now, this is a find. And I feel embarrassed because all of the years I have been coming down here, I failed to find this place. My wife who is certainly wiser than me took us here, and man, it was great. The menu is a mix of starters, plus an array of tostadas. We tried to do as much as two people could to get a sense of their range and flavors. We started with the beet salad. Good mix of dark greens, large pieces of cooked beet, some diced cheese and seeds. Terrific. Then, we did several tostadas. The tuna and avocado was fine, with fine chopped tortilla strips. We then did the truffle equites, which was mainly corn that was flavored with truffle, a delicious and hearty tostada that had some soft white cheese on top of it (I think goat?). The winner though was the roasted cauliflower tostada. Dang, that had so much depth of flavor, one of the best bites I have had in many months from anywhere. The service? Excellent. The bartender loves his job, smiling, engaging and seemed really in his element. The other servers were attentive, the food came quickly and it's all priced right. Just loved coming here and will be back.
