"Shop for Shells from the Forbidden Island of Ni'ihau The small, dry, mysterious island of Niʽihau is unlike any in the Hawai‘ian chain. This arid island to the southwest of Kauaʽi was sold in 1864 to the Robinson family by King Kahemameha V. For 150 years, the island has existed under the domain of a single family. Completely cut-off from modern development, there are no roads, no restaurants, no stores, and no police. Hawai‘ian is still the official language, and outsiders who aren't of Hawai‘ian descent aren't permitted to visit the village. There is one school run completely on solar power. Though, with limited opportunity for full-time employment, the island population struggles to surpass 100 permanent residents. While the future of Niʽihau remains uncertain, the lone bright spot for the island's economy is handmade Niʽihau jewelry. Rare shells no larger than pinheads accumulate along a shore that's devoid of people. From off-white momi to black kahelelani, these shells are found nowhere else in the world. In addition to their rarity, the shells are masterfully formed into lei that are handcrafted using ancient techniques. Sizes and shapes are painstakingly matched, and a single lei can take months to create. In West Maui, the best selection of Niʽihau jewelry can be found in Whalers Village at Totally Hawai‘ian Gift Gallery. From earrings to lei to exceptionally rare pieces, each item includes a letter of authenticity stating that the shells are, in fact, from the Forbidden Island of Niʽihau."

Great Hawaiian Gift shop with lots of different gifts and items, all with a high degree of artistry. The ladies working the shop were very friendly as well. Got a handmade coaster there as a souvenir too.

Aloha! We came looking for some wall decor to take as souvenirs but they didn’t have them any more! They did have a lot of cute things and everything is very pricey but it’s good quality! Mahalo

THE best gift shop we found during our visit. You will be surprised the variety of the selection, much more reasonable price and excellent customer service they provide.

Great store for unique items for everyone. My brother was looking for Koa wood jewelry and he found a few things. He bought a ball cap with a wooden bill. He's gotten several compliments. He also bought a spear with attached shark teeth. I'm very thankful the store was close to the handicapped parking.

If you're in Maui and looking for some authentic Hawaiian souvenirs to bring home, you have to check this place out. They have the most imaginative, carefully curated collection. My wife and I picked up an awesome replica of the 1930's Dodge Hula Dancing lamps and couldn't be happier. Be sure to ask for Pat! She is amazing.

This is a very nicely decorated souvenir store. The owners definitely have a good taste. I did read a few reviews about discrimination, I personally didn't experience any and can't comment for others. Though most items are locally sourced or crafted, not all of them are. Few items can be deceiving by labels. One of the earrings said Hawaiian lava gold though it had nothing to do with Hawaii. The owner was honest enough to say that to us which I appreciate.

Absolutely love this store and the little ladies who run it. So many beautiful things. Could spend a ton of money in there if I could get it all back to Canada in one piece. Love love love this store ‼️❤️

Google
There’s no doubt the store has gorgeous souvenirs inside but I was deeply disappointed when the candle I bought shows that it was made in Lithuania! Next time I will look at where the souvenirs were handcrafted from!!

Yelp
My wife and I found a great wall hanging, a quilt made with the shapes of tropical leaves. We received great help from Ron, who opened cabinets, described the way the koa wood pieces were made, and talked about some of the local craftspeople. They have quilted wall hangings, and smaller pieces that could go on a pillow, as well as full bedsize ones. Many discoveries!

Yelp
The store was great! Had lots of interesting things in there. It was hard to choose what to buy. An African-American gentleman was extremely helpful and explained a lot of things to us like different materials items were made out of and he overall created a pleasant experience. My husband purchased a necklace he had been eyeing . Definitely recommend the store.

Yelp
While shopping in Whaler's Village, I discovered the Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery, a gift shop that carries Christmas decor, Hawaiian art, home decor, jewelry, soaps, lotions & perfumes, and more. Rhonda was friendly and helpful. We picked up a few hibiscus hair clips, loofah soap, and some jewelry!

Yelp
This place has super cute things, all Hawaiian themed. The person who was helping us was super personable and friendly, approaching everybody multiple times to ensure we were doing well. What really peaked my interest were the ornaments made of things found on the beach. I got a sea turtle one, because it was super cute. Overall, I highly recommend at least a glance through this store.

Yelp
This is exactly my kind of Hawaii shop. Exactly what I was hoping for. 100% based on my childhood experiences with my mom, but if you're looking for this particular kind of place, which I was, it is all of of the right things. The people were super nice too. Lovely. Everything I wanted.

Yelp
I would give 0 stars if I can. My husband and I went to this store around 7:30pm today as we are leaving tomorrow morning. I want to buy few sovereigns to my family. I scanned through the stores and was interested only in Koa wooden crafts. The store lady first attended someone. I then waited for my turn. She immediately started helping the girl who had just come inside the store and started attending only to her. When I asked if I could look into the cases which were inside locked cabinets she said will help the other girl first. Utter discrimination. People of color please help yourself by staying away from this store. For the lady inside the store just because I showed up myself without a make up or fancy clothes you can't be rude to us. You have no right to treat us that way. Please learn to respect your customers. For your kind info I am a citizen of this country too.

Yelp
Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery is As Good As It Gets! I was looking for a special gift for my sister and brother-in-law for their 40th wedding anniversary. I came across their web site and found the perfect gift! I was fortunate to have a very helpful, friendly, and kind, lady (I am very upset I do not remember her name)! She went over and above to make a wonderful surprise happen! My sister and bother-in-law were very surprised and loved our gift. It was a very unique cross (but I think every item they have is unique). It has the Lords prayer in Hawaiian & English and a note telling a story about the cross. It was just perfect and could not have happened without this wonderful lady! Thank you very much!

Yelp
This is a cute little store in Whalers Village. I came upon it while checking out all the stores and really liked what I saw inside. They have an assortment of Christmas ornaments which was perfect for me since I collect one on every trip I take. Everything they had in there was locally made items which gave it another thumbs up in my book. While I like the cheap fun gifts at the ABC store to bring back for friends and family, I also really appreciate supporting the local artists. I got a beautiful hand painted glass turtle for my mom and turtle coasters for my sister. I will definitely return to this store when I get back to Maui.

Yelp
I have been in this store many times over the years and have purchased a lot of items here. I love that they carry Hawaiian made items as I make it point to try to only purchase items made in Hawaii when visiting. This trip I was in a few times the last to purchase some gifts before we headed home. During the last visit I did notice I was being followed around which had never happened before so that was strange. I don't know if middle-age women look like criminals to them? I was nicely dressed and carry an small but expensive handbag so that seemed odd. Anyways I purchased a few items and was happy with the service I received once I was up at the counter. I do dislike being followed though.

Yelp
I visited the Whalers Village location and I was not followed around the store as a previous reviewer had happen to her. The staff was courteous, friendly and professional and I left getting what I wanted with no hassle. They allowed me to compare various colors of the turtle candle holder on the counter to pick the one I liked, and, when it was discovered that the one I picked was marked $10 cheaper than the others, I got it at the reduced price with no attitude just happiness for me. This store has always been top shelf and I plan to buy more from them. They even cheerfully validated my parking after I left, got a coffee, got my ticket from my husband and returned.

Yelp
I like this store. Located closely to the ABC store in Whaler's Village. You can find some of your usual Hawaiian trinkets here but also some high quality products too. I trust that most of these, if not all, were made in Hawaii, but you may want to check before you purchase them.

Yelp
Fun little shop that had trinkets and local Hawaii decor. We ended up purchasing some magnets and some wooden piece of art. Fun location and some unique items, just know with this village you will be required to pay a little more than normal, but it is Hawaii.

Yelp
We had the most wonderful experience in this store. Zelia is the kindest person we met in Hawaii (and we met a lot of amazing people!). She took the time to share Hawaiian history with our two children (daughter - 11 and son - 8). The Nihau Shell leis are absolutely amazing and I loved the story of how they're made. Our son was mesmerized by the Hawaiian swords and authentic treasures. Our entire family learned more about Hawaii from this store than we did anywhere else while on Maui. We loved it and highly recommend it to others who are shopping. It is way more than 'just a typical shopping experience.' Thank Zelia for spending time with our family and leaving a lasting impression on all of us. We love your store.
