39 Best Restaurants in Tokyo Right Now | Condé Nast Traveler

"The moody interior of this contemporary Chinese restaurant from Ryoji Hayashi, owner of three-Michelin-starred Sazenka, has a maze-like feel, with several private dining rooms hidden behind dark wood panels and gray stone walls. The menu offers a dizzying array of Chinese classics prepared with Japanese precision and panache—the silkiest steamed chicken with scallion sauce, the most luxurious braised trotter, a perfect cube of daikon radish cake fried to a golden crisp. Can’t choose between the Peking duck—rolled into thin crepes with slivers of cucumber and hoisin sauce—and the slow burn of Mapo tofu, or steamed dim sum dumplings? Order the Peking duck chef's menu and get it all." - Melinda Joe

We stopped in here for a nighttime meal. It’s a unique take on Chinese. We had: 1️⃣ snow pea leaves - amazing, hands down the best preparation of this dish I’ve ever had 2️⃣ mapo tofu - ok. My sister is a vegetarian and they were very accommodating in replacing the ground pork with a veg option 3️⃣ turnip cake - ok. The texture was amazing but the sausage was a little overwhelming 4️⃣ seafood hotpot - the flavor of the broth was absolutely incredible 5️⃣ hairy crab spring roll - amazing Overall the food was good, service was good and it was a unique experience

An excellent Chinese restaurant. The menu is extensive and gives you an overwhelming choice of delicious options which all look delicious. Everything you order they divide before serving so that each person gets their own plate. I loved everything that was ordered but my personal stand outs were the Shanghai crab noodles, stir fried squid with shiso, all of their spring rolls and the steamed snapper. Also leave room for dessert! Their fried banana and sweet potato ice cream was delicious. Staff were also incredibly attentive. Only issue for the evening was we realized we never received our Mapo tofu and the bill at the end is not itemized so we could work out if we paid for it…

Second time dining here a year apart and never disappoints. Upmarket Chinese with all the Western classics like peking duck, spring rolls and evening dim sum. Atmosphere is next level and service was outstanding. Thanks again for a great evening.

This places defines service. The amount of consideration that goes into every action they make is really commendable. The restaurant decor exudes taste with the textured cold walls against the dark wooden cabinetry. The wine list was outstanding and thoughtfully chosen to pair well with all the dishes. Coming from Toronto I thought I knew good Chinese food but this spot is so far ahead I was in awe. Highly, highly recommend to anyone thinking if they should go.

High-end Chinese food (mostly their version of Sichuan and Cantonese dishes) in mini portion sizes, so you can try a lot. But the cost really adds up - basically ¥300-600 per bite. They were strangely out of a number of items on my visit (no chashu?), but I'd still be happy to return here.

Great food, a bit random service and dated location. Overall 4*
