We made reservations for our anniversary for 4:45pm on 19 May. Overall, the restaurant has a nice environment, with a good 360 view of San Antonio, and the food was good.
Things to consider when making a reservation when the Sun is still out is that it could get a bit warm inside the restaurant as all the sunlight makes it way through the windows. Unfortunately, when we went the AC couldn't keep up with the heat coming through.
We ordered two appetizers: the crab cake which was delicious! and the crispy spicy tuna (seasonal special) which was good too. As an entree we ordered the black linguine di mare and the 9oz filet mignon with loaded baked potato. The pasta was delicious, but the filet mignon was nothing glamorous... my husband ordered it medium and it came way overcooked, so they had to do another one. The second time it wasn't medium but medium well, my husband didn't want to say anything further and decided to eat it. The flavor was ok. On a positive note, the server gave us a complimentary lobster bisque while we waited :) my husband also ordered 3 Moscow Mules and they were good as well. For desert we decided to go for the hot chocolate lava and it was the best we've had!
The low rating is for the experience we had with the lady manager (working that shift) who approached me while I was breastfeeding my crying baby and asked me if I could "cover up" or go to the restroom to breastfeed. Obviously, I felt embarrassed and stopped breastfeeding and went to the restroom thinking they had a breastfeeding area. They do not! The restroom did not have a chair either. So, I'm guessing the manager was suggesting for me to sit on a toilet and breastfeed my baby? Obviously, I didn't breastfeed there and went back to the table and continued to breastfeed my baby with a blanket on top. This was not ideal because my baby and I were sweating due to the heat, not to mention by that time my poor little girl was crying!
My family and I travel often, we've been in various restaurants accross the US and other countries and I've never been asked to go to a restroom or to cover up. It is sad to see that in 2024 we are still dealing with this type of situations. EVERYONE should understand and acknowledge that MOMs are doing the best they can to breastfeed, all while being discreet. People from other tables were smiling at us and my baby throughout our time there, so I do not believe another customer complained. Not sure if it was an employee. Nonetheless it is unacceptable.
Honestly, I'm very disappointed because it turned a good experience into a sour one. Based on this and other reviews I've now read, my advice for families with babies who are breastfed and/or have small children is to strongly consider dining elsewhere.
