What To Do in Shibuya: Our Guide

"From an American point of view, visiting Tower Records in Shibuya is an excessively nostalgic experience. Just as in the Tower Records of yesteryear, new releases are wheeled out at midnight, and listening stations are sprinkled throughout the stacks." - Davey Young

When I was a kid, and in New Zealand, record stores were a huge deal there. You were able to hear, and get the latest stuff, buy some of the best and greatest albums, and were even the reason why vinyl records were still relevant. Nowadays, you don't see that happening apart from a few shops like Real Groovy, and possibly some local vinyl stores, but this one is a rare find. To have a music store wholly dedicated to k-pop, j-music, anisong etc is truly a blessing. I was able to buy some of the latest releases, as well as a few classics. If you ever wanna get your hands on that album from the likes of TWICE, BTS, or even a final fantasy soundtrack then is place is it. Plus, they really do live out by their motto: No Music, No Life. 🥰

Nice place to buy music on physical media or just enjoy the atmosphere while shopping in Shibuya. Most of the floors are way too noisy with multiple sources of music competing for attention, but the vinyl floor was a totally different vibe with great music playing. There is even a small selection on cassette tape. Also, the building itself just looks so cool.

It is a wonderful place to still be able to get records, CDs, and more. The genres of music are vast and every floor has its own type of music. Tax-free counters are on the 3rd floor, and the queue was fast-moving.

It is very nice to actually have a visit Tower Records, there are multiple stories and it is just lively and also full of life. The used CD section is quite fun to spend hours to discover some awesome piece.

In a world where physical media has been dying for decades, record stores like this are a cultural marvel against all odds. Every floor caters to a specific music lovers needs, and the vinyl floor had me in awe. I brought a bunch of great records at great prices. They also had a live jazz performance while I was digging, which just added a whole other ambience to my experience. This was probably one of my favorite music experiences ever!

Came to check out their KPOP section in hopes of buying an album but too bad it was all sold out. They had a lot of autographs on display from past and present popular KPOP groups which was pretty cool.

Huge store .great selection of cds and dvds of all genres .7 floors total including a cafe .they do allow you to do tax free over 5500 yens bring your passport with you . The only down side are the disgusting unclean bathrooms and super old and outdated toilet .for surch a rich area like shibuya and big company like tower record i was expecting more . Other than that cds were well organized. They do hold events once in a while .you can see fans lining up outside

This record store has many levels (including washrooms) and includes a duty-free counter on level 3. If you like Japanese music, vinyls, and anime, I recommend this place.

Yelp
No Music. No Life. Impressive Tower Records Tower in Shibuya; an iconic building a& location for over 20 years. Inside you will find an impressive collection of records, CDs, labels and posters... from the golden era to new, for artists from all over the world. Nothing beats a rubber record in hand with songs from your favorite artist. A must visit store while in Tokyo: Shibuya By the way, staff are very knowledgeable and friendly here. Cashiers are super fast and efficient. Makes for a great visit.

Yelp
Obviously exploring Tower Records requires refueling now and then. Logically, this is the most convenient choice! The pros: - Themes change constantly, which means new decorations and menu offerings - Staff is polite and courteous - Great place for people-watching - You can use your Tower Records point card, and if you purchased something in the regular store earlier you get a cafe discount coupon - There's a take-away counter for beverages with a row of Starbucks-sequel seating (complete with outlets) The cons: - Due to many events going on at once on any given day in the building, this place can be crowded - Wait times are unpredictable - Going with more than three people can be a hassle for seating Worth multiple visits!

Yelp
For over 20 years, Tower Records in Shibuya has been one of the goto music locations in Tokyo. While the days of purchasing music at Tower Records in America is no longer, in Japan, many continue to purchase CD's and albums thanks to many live performances where artists get the opportunity to perform in front of their fans or the music labels have found ways to attract music listeners to purchase a CD and get something fantastic in return. And while Tower Records is seen as a music mecca, they have also opened a restaurant/cafe in the store, where people can sit down, relax, read a magazine or book and enjoy the atmosphere of the location. And similar to the various niche-based cafe that are seen in Akihabara, Tower Records Cafe also does a good number of collaborations, so a special meal or desert tied to a music artist or group can be sold to the general public. Upon arriving to the cafe, the first thing I observed aside from people sitting and talking with their friends are the number of people, sitting, eating and reading books. On the shelves were fashion/pop culture magazines that were focused on America or European pop culture, which was surprising. Customer service was quick and easy. While at the cafe, I was amazed by the menu of the location. Appetizers, salads, cafe dishes, pasta, risotto and soup, pizza, hamburger and panini, meat and fish dishes, Tower Records Cafe has a great selection and you can also get a soft drink or alcohol with your dish. I decided to check out the rice omelet for 1,100 yen. One of the popular dishes sold at Tower Records cafe, the omurice (omelet with rice inside) featured a delicious sauce and a lot of cheese on top of the omurice. Definitely one of the more delicious omurice I tasted during my stay in Japan, I can easily recommend Tower Records Cafe for the environment and delicious food!

Yelp
I came here for the rilakkuma theme because my sister is crazy about it. The wait wasn't that bad. The food was ok. It's basically for the theme. Overall, I wouldn't go back for the food but it was cute.
