Town Hall Train Station

Town hall station is one of the major hub of Sydney trains. Well connected and signposted to buses and always seems to be tidy. Walk straight into the QVB can be a bonus, especially when the weather is no good. And don’t forget access to Woolworths is available from the concourse as well. Good station to get off for most locations in the city.

Easy to navigate 😁 Was able to easily access the station. l liked the film advertising on the station. Trains were on time and platforms were clean. l felt safe.

I ❤️ Town Hall station. It’s like a partitioned shoebox lying on its side 2m underground. Peaceful, serene even in the late evening. Chaotic noisy and colourful streams of earbuds with people attached all loved up in State govt deep green and cream yellow. Summer brings large platform sprays of water mist to cool the homeward bounds serfs. All the while above ground, Christian fundamentalists and lonely buskers blast their creed to the suspecting passers clutching their fresh packet of chips and take-in dinners-for-one newly bought at the garishly lit corner Woolies. Life as we love it 🥰

The prosperity of the metropolis, the endless flow of people, street artists, beggars, and homeless people living on the streets, all make people feel its potential charm. 2024 - Lunar New Year, 12 zodiac lanterns are lined up on both sides of the street, and they may be lit on the night of the Lantern Festival.

It's a train station! It has trains and people catching them! So convenient if you are heading into the city! -1 star for the definite piss smell in one lift and the rude people who were able bodied who barged into the lift, passing in front of us and our pram who could have taken the stairs.... Perhaps that's not cityrails fault, but rather the fault of people....still it detracts from the experience somewhat.

It’s a very big underground station, with levels going down to the different tracks. Very clean and spacious, not at all stuffy or uncomfortable which is impressive considering the awesome amount of air that needs to be pumped through all the time. With trains running on time, lots of shops and eateries, and access to great outlets of all sorts, into the basements and upper levels of the Victoria and other buildings overground

Staff are great. Architecturally this place needs Govt funding to get more sunlight in & create more access (entry / exit) facilities. Why? Because it feels like you’re trying to escape a 1970s druggo-filled shopping centre in Berlin. It desperately needs more entries & exits added. Getting out of the train at Town Hall is an unnecessarily unpleasant experience - you simply cannot wait to get outside (even when it’s raining) to flee from the low ceilings and no natural light.

Sydney, I love your transit system. This station is really convenient as it drops you off in the centre of the city. It's busy and packed in this area especially around high traffic times. I miss using my Opal card already. The LRT system in Ottawa is a mess

I was staying in the Central Business District area for the Sydney Marathon and came here to catch the train a few times. You can enter the station from George St or even access the station from the lower level of the Queen Victoria Building. There are a lot of signs and screens to let you know which platform to wait for your train. It was very convenient that I was able to pay for my train fare using Google Pay.

Honestly, this is a pretty cruddy railway station, and it gets ridiculously hot in summer, but for some reason, I still absolutely love the place. I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that its tendrils stretch well out under the centre of Sydney. Well, not too far, but there are numerous underground entrances, and you can actually walk right through to Pitt Street mall without going upstairs, which being Sydney is a huge advantage. Oh, and pretty much every train passes through here as well, and it is quite close to a number of attractions as well.

What keeps me coming back? The fact I have to travel through this place to get where I need to be. lol I don't mind the station.. it gives me access to the QVB and so many other shops. It's like the middle of the underground rabbit warren of shops that run like a spiderweb under Sydney. Great fun to spend a day getting lost. The station itself needs a bit of work and they keep doing bits here and there but I have to say, it never seems to make a huge difference visually. It's not a stunning place, it's just transit. It's a warm place even in cook times but during summer.. it can be quite hot down there. And a bit smelly. But even though it's nothing glamorous, I know that our Town Hall station leads to some good things.

Town Hall Station is a train station located in Sydney CBD served by numerous lines. This is the station to get off for the shopping district as most of the shopping malls are located in the vicinity. In addition to its close proximity to these shopping malls, the station itself is actually connected to several of them. The Queen Victoria Building and The Galeries have entrances to the station. And you could walk through these two malls to access Westfield Sydney, the biggest shopping mall in the area. This was particularly helpful on one day when I was in Sydney in which there was a huge rainstorm. I was able to to use the underground passageways rather than using the surface streets and getting wet. The station itself is pretty standard. There are 6 platforms here. The one thing I didn't like about this station is that it gets surprisingly humid as there isn't much ventilation.despite being underground. But this is a good train station to take to make connections from as just about every city train line stops here.

This station is pretty convenient because it's located in the central part of the city. I love getting off here because I can literally explore the city from here. The only thing about this station is it's always heavily crowded and it gets worst during peak hours, but it's nothing compared to traffic in the states so it wasn't too bad actually. The location makes it so easy to go from place to place. Public transportation sure is convenient in this city. I always made this my stop when I wanted to go into the city. Getting into the station itself is fairly easy. All you need is an opal card and you just tap your way in. The fare is fairly cheap and convenient. All-in-all this was my way around the city.

Platform 3 terrifies me. The overcrowding down here at rush hour is seriously dangerous. I fully expect someone to end up on the train tracks one of these days because this place is not designed for the numbers of people attempting to get on and off these trains. Avoid if you can. I try never to come here during rush hour, but some times you don't have a choice.

OK, it may just be a station, but here's a tip if you haven't been in Sydney long and you have to get a train from here: Make sure you know what platform you're going to. Don't guess that just because a train going the other way on the line you want is at the platform, then your train will be going from the platform next to it. No no! You'll probably have to go down a couple flight of stairs or so to get to your train. It can get pretty confusing. Just saying.

Who hasn't been to Town Hall station right. We can't really avoid using it really unless we bus it to the city. The station is perfect to use when you want to go anywhere in city or get anywhere outside of it too. They have upgraded it a little recently and the toilets are now located inside the concourse which makes so much more sense cause before they were free for anyone to use and weren't the most pleasant to visit on a weekend night. The platforms can get exceptionally warm which is wonderful during the colder months but torturous during hotter times. They had cold fans as a trial at one point which actually worked really well but for whatever reason they got rid of them again. Definitely need to bring them back. The station has great access to Woolworths which makes doing a quick shop on the way home perfect. QVB is accessible from station to so you don't need to worry about crossing any roads to access. Overall this station is good and I will continue to frequent it as it's better maintained then some of the other city platforms.

Town Hall station, why wouldn't you! I frequent Town Hall Station Daily mostly platform 3 and platform 5 but today I had the joy of visiting platform 1 Rat spotting is a good way to pass the time here all whilst enjoying the consistently warm weather around 28-30 degrees with 83% humidity.

Trains come in, people shuffle around, train leave - it's happening all around. Just like a station should. But for the love of God who designed these damn platforms? Were they people that were as thin as supermodels? There are places on the platforms that are wide enough for 3 people as long as one of them is standing on the tracks. And the lift - really? Replace the hamster running the wheel, he's too old and slow now. The staff do a good job, and they are knowledgable, but I have on demand... STOP BLOWING THE WHISTLE AND YELLING PEOPLE TO HURRY UP AND GET ON THE TRAIN WHEN THE DAMN DOORS HAVE JUST OPENED!!! It's rude and makes you look stupid. If the train is going to be delayed then tell your damn manager that the timetable isn't working.

Town Hall Station is great because it can lead us to get everywhere such as China Town, CBD (City Business District), QVB (Sydney iconic Queen Victoria Building), Hyde Park, George Street, Oxford Street, Pit Street, Darling Harbour, short walk to Opera House, The Rocks, Circular Quay, e.t.c. However, my main concern is it's getting too crowdy, so many people all the time. It's very hard to walk through the people. Especially , during business hours I feel not safe enough. So I prefer getting off the trains at Martin Place which is next to Town Hall. I can still get to everywhere above places but much fewer people. I feel much safer. Otherwise, it's very cool station. It's not modern looking but very retro and classic. タウンホール駅は街の中心にあるとっても便利な駅です。ガイドブックに載っているような観光スポットのほとんどに徒歩で行けます。ただ、私の懸念は最近ますます利用者が増えて人がいつもあふれている状態です。プラットフォームやコンコース、また駅の出入り口などもしかり。なので、今はタウンホール駅の一つ手前のマーティンプレイス駅を利用しています。こちらは日本の東京で言えば丸の内のような金融街で、タウンホール同様徒歩で有名なオペラハウスやオーストラリアの発祥地でもあるロックス地区などへも行けてしまいます。 人の数が多すぎる事を除けばタウンホールはとってもレトロチックで便利な駅です。

The most unhelpful and rude staff I've ever seen, can't believe what the hiring process is like

It's hard to really say that much about a train Station. This one is a busy one, often packed with people but still manages to flow pretty well. Easy to find your way around with a good variety of shops thrown in there for convince. I only gave it 3 stars because I always find it uncomfortable...... stuffy ..... too warm down there otherwise its a fair station for a pretty big city such as Sydney.

Currently being renovated but given its location right in the heart of the city - this is a poor excuse of a main station. Central Station in Hong Kong, Shinjuku in Japan, City Hall in Singapore and 34th Street in New York are examples of other stations in the middle of a city and Sydney Town Hall pales in comparison. It is cramped, stuffy and at peak times a sea of chaotic humanity. It can probably benefit from some air conditioning which is a achievable given the trains run underground. Some of the exits lead directly into the classy and trendy QVB shops before winding towards Pitt Street mall and the flag ship Westfields. The number of beggars needs to be curbed as they plonk themselves in the middle of busy pedestrian lanes both above and underground and pose a safety risk to themselves and others.

I have always loved this station. As a child my mother took me into town to visit all the wonderful shops, we always got off at Town Hall. There are so many platforms that it can be easy to get lost if you are not from Sydney. The platforms are under one another or alongside . It is better to plan a trip getting off or on at this station not during the rush peak hour times, definitely not a pram friendly area. However the station still has an old world charm.

You go to Town Hall station because you have to. Not because you want to. Its crowded, noisy and hot. There are no seats. They are renovating (again) but given the crowds it handles, it will look just as shabby as ever a week after they finish. It really needs a major overhaul with bigger platforms and a bunch of stuff but I suspect that's impossible given its location. The one cool thing about the station is the old air raid shelter sign they found while re-painting. The deep platforms were one of Sydney'd public shelters during the second world war. They never got used, but at least they were there. Mind you, its an uncomfortable place to spend 5 minutes waiting for a train. What it would have been like to spend a night with a crowd of frightened people I hate to think. Oh yeah... the gents loos at Town hall are disgusting. Avoid at all costs.

Yup. Its a train station. The big one in the middle of the city. I don't have much to say about it except that its REALLY, REALLY shitttaaayyyyy how they have no seats on the damn platform. I mean they do, but they mostly don't. There are literally like 2, if any, and they're at the far end of each platform and kind of out-of-sight. They're completely out-of-sight when the platform is crowded. It's really pretty dire and terrible for elderly and less mobile passengers. Heartbreaking, actually. Not everybody finds it easy to stand around on a crowded platform for 10+ minutes at a time. I've been here several times now where there is an older person struggling to stay on their feet on a crowded and sometimes very humid and muggy platform and there is nowhere for them to sit. They're literally white knuckling their walking stick and clutching the wall with their other hand. Put some more goddamn seats in with a big sign that you will be expected to vacate those seats for elderly and disabled passengers. Please. Thank you.

I, Town Hall's transient duke, wish to address those of you who wander beneath its hallowed halls. As a child this station held more wonder and mystique than any other in the city... It was the gateway to a dream world of cinemas, arcades and a myriad of junk food. Over the years, however it has lost its childhood awe. Life has an inexorable way of diminishing the joy found in the simplest of pleasures in direct proportion to one's age. Let's face it: Milson's has that lone isle feel and view; Wynyard's closer to the action and better bars; Circular Quay has the water and The Rocks; and Museum has antiquated charm. These days Town Hall has come to mean business, as in work, as in that boring routine called the commute that you are required to engage in morning and evening in order to make it to your cubicle prison. In that role though it achieves its purpose admirably. Shuffling commuters to desired destinations. If it doesn't stop at Town Hall it aint a train you wanna be on! So it has that goin' for it.

I've travelled in & out of Town Hall Station hundreds of times. Coming from California where we have no under city trains (other than Bart, which is painfully limited), I find the NSW & Sydney rail system to be excellent. It has continually improved since I started riding in 2010. Not sure about the critiques that mark down for humidity and crowds, Face it. Sydney is hot & crowded much of the time. I cannot see calling out the train station for that. Any city that keeps the trains truly running on time is a wonder of the world. I find Sydney is really on top of this compared to many cities. Am looking forward to riding more of the new trains as they roll out these coming years. Worth mentioning that they did a great job with the new exit corridor on the south side of the station. New everything. Floor tiles, lighting, ceilings... nice. I do note that there are a lot of young people sitting and not getting up for the elderly and handicapped on the trains. Take one example from an American visitor: I stand and embrace the process of kindness unless there is a space for me that does not force elder strangers to stand up. Hard to watch this insensitive behaviour at times in a city full of fit, seemingly intelligent young people. Please practice staying strong of mind and helpingthe weak!

I guess it's pretty good for an old city centre train station. They have staff directing people around the station that seems to improve efficiency and the flow of people through the station and on and off the trains. Town hall is still old and character building.. but somehow it works pretty well. Not the prettiest station of them all but it's there, and it does what it was dropped on this earth to do. I don't use it every day but when I do.. It always seems to do its job and allow me to get on trains as soon as possible so I can hurry up and get home!

Town Hall is unbearable during the peak hours. The platforms aren't wide enough to handle the massive crowds trying to get in and out of the trains. You need really good people avoidance skills to navigate your way through the human congestion here. There are hardly any benches on the platforms and this makes the 30 minute wait when you miss your train the longest and most tiresome 30 minutes of your life. I wouldn't dare sit on the floor or the steps here, who knows what kind of bacteria is breeding silently on the grounds. You can opt to stay at the concourse where there are benches but you have to make sure you don't miss your train while waiting there. The only good thing about this station is its location, allowing you easy access to all the CBD shops that matter (QVB, The Galeries, World Square, Westfield, Pitt St Mall, Myer), Darling Harbour and the George St cinemas.

Oh, Town Hall Station, the quintessential grimy, permanently under construction, massively populated train stop. I'm here far more often than I would like, but as I navigate the crowds, at least I'm assured that every kind of food and most of the cheap clothing shops I could possibly want are just the other side of the Opal card barrier. If you can forgive the lack of signage, poorly labelled exits and hordes of clueless tourists clogging up the works, this station isn't actually all that bad. Good thing, too, because you basically can't navigate Sydney without coming through here.

Oh yes. The subterraneon Town Hall Station. There's a nice breeze up top, but the masses are stiffling in the underground heat and humidity as they wait on crowded platforms for a train. The aggravated noise of other trains arriving, not yours. It is a two-edged sword that the trains come frequently. Not unlike a New York Subway station, except the people here are much classier and don't usually carry firearms. I have a bad memory from one night at about midnight of feeding my last coins into a vending machine for a chocolate bar. The machine failed to work. Life can be hard.

Another day and another commute on yet another overcrowded train. Getting a train that even stops at my home station is a difficult enough proposition. I can safely say that the sheer quantity of commuters alighting at my stop, far outweigh those getting off at other more regularly serviced stations. Having to watch 5 or 6 trains go by before I can catch one that will get me home is frustrating enough, let alone the aggravation one contends with when actually catching one. Sydney Trains please take note: THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT CARRIAGES / SEATS ON YOUR COMMUTER SERVICES! I'm just plain bored with having to race other punters for seats every time I catch a train. I feel as though I've entered some dystopian, Mad Max style version of the future where in order to contend with the cutthroat nature of public transport, one must be some kind of savage beserker! Simple solution Sydney Trains: one or more additional carriages on the trains taking folks home from work. While you're at it, please allow more trains to stop at any station where a good many of your customers live. Might be time for some number crunching. Having a virtual monopoly on something is no excuse for poor service.

The renovation works and friendly staff are a welcome reprieve from years of neglect. That faint smell of musty mildew and dust, we must be going into Town Hall Station!

It's great to swap trains or get to places because there's a lot of places around Town Hall like State Theatre and QVB. The bad thing is its a very old train station... It can't coupe with today's times and its so hot and stuffy with no ventilation. Sydney Trains need to give it a major face lift. Also if you don't know Town Hall station well, your going to get lost.
