Toyota Auto Museum

Incredible museum which not only showcases Toyota/ other Japanese makes & models, but also the rich history of the automotive industry in Japan. The museum also houses a number of cars from all over the world from European to American muscle, as well as some quirky models you would never know existed. We were fortunate to attend while they had a ‘What’s JDM’ exhibit which featured handful of additional iconic vehicles. The museum also has a restaurant & cafe for meals and refreshments and a store which has an extensive range of well priced apparel and merchandise from plastic models, Tomica and more detailed diecast models, and the store has a particular focus on the Toyota 2000GT, so you will not be disappointed if you came to this museum for this purpose (like me).

Amazing! You get to see the history of cars with restored vintage displays and some newer models. I love the easy navigation of the museum and I highly recommend coming here if you're into cars. You can also take part in a stamp rally and collect little car stamps (its more for kids, but its very fun). There is also a great merchandise store and a cafe. The staff are all very friendly, too. Highly recommend coming here and expect to spend an hour or two.

I think there are at least 3 Toyota owned museums in Nagoya, each with a different theme and serving somewhat different purposes. This was the only one that charges a fee (1200Yen). If you're an auto nut though, there's a high chance you might think it's a steal. Again I wasn't prepared for the scale of the museum so I didn't allocate sufficient time. Just the cars alone will take a few hours to properly appreciate. Anything that is remotely associated with cars are beautifully curated. License plates from around the world, movies that feature cars (example: Back to the Future), hood ornaments of all sorts and vintage. The library as well, I could spend days here. This feels like Toyota's love letter to the automotive world. And they've poured their heart into it. I didn't do it justice on this trip. However, I'm determined to return.

Rented a car and drove to the museum, glad we made the trip because of how informative it was. Unlike the Toyota commerative museum, this museum focused primarily on cars, it was amazing to see so many cars from the ages with brands from all over. Highly recommended whether you are a pistonhead or not.

Purchased tickets upon arrival. First big stop in Nagoya and it did not disappoint. Went early to try and avoid crowds and even when it got busy, still not too crowded. Such a cool collection of cars from ALL manufactures, not just Toyota. Must stop for anyone remotely interested in cars of any type.

Great collection or cars displaying the evolution and the history of motor cars. Staff at ticket counter spoke English as well which made it all very easy! Stand out for me was the prototype LFA Spyder (one of two). Definitely worth the visit for this alone!

The museum was a bit far from Nagoya’s center, but we had a great time. Be sure to follow the correct order of the museum, as we accidentally went backwards because the flow wasn’t very intuitive, especially on the first floor. I wanted the museum to be solely focused on Toyota, but it also showcased other car brands.

Brilliant range of cars (not just toyota) showing the history of the automobile industry in japan. All exhibits are translated to English so very foreigner friendly. Not crowded even on a holiday and easy to access via train. You also don’t need to pre-book tickets so great to kill a few hours time while you’re visiting Nagoya. A must for any car nerd visiting Japan

This is an awesome place to visit! Not only that super friendly staff members! I showed up late and almost closing time. The cost was $10. They asked where I was from and I said San Francisco, and they gave me a free pass! I wanted to see only 2 cars, the 2000 GT and the Estima that looked like my Previa! I rushed to the 3rd floor and the staff up there was very nice and let me look in the cars and open doors! The girl was super nice and took pictures of me next to the cars and wanted one with me! Honored! I came back down and the ladies up front gave me a package of stuff!!!

Great museum to see not only the automotive history of Toyota but also notable cars from other manufacturers from around the world. It has an extensive display of pristine cars sorted by the decades and country of origin--from the Ford Model-T to the Lexus LFA--and apparently most are in operational condition. The museum was well laid out on multiple floors and it felt very spacious walking through the large open spaces visiting the detailed displays but most, if not all, displays are hands-off so you don't have the opportunity to go inside the cars. If you're a fan of automobiles this place is worth a look as well as the "Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology" which isn't too far away.
