Trade is my favourite breakfast spot. It's got practically everything you need in for a good lazy weekend breakfast.
First up, the food. Trade offers up the usual kind of breakfast food you might find in other diners in the area such as pancakes and egg dishes and all that sorts of things, but what they also offer are incredible lobster rolls, smashed avocado on sourdough bread and delicious, delicious pastrami sandwiches, probably the best in London, according to those in the know.
Next, the space. Trade is open and airy, and even has a secret garden, great for those all-too-rare warm London days. It's not too cramped, and there's a nice communal table at the back as well. The cafe offers free wifi and there's lemon-infused (depending on when it was last refilled) water as well. And, best of all, they have newspapers which anyone can read through. I don't know about you, but that's my key ingredient for a lazy breakfast.
They also do photo exhibitions in here. The first time I went in, they had an exhibition featuring various curry chefs on Brick Lane. I really liked the East End communal spirit this invoked.
Next, the drinks. I'm not a big fan of the coffee here as there are others in the area which do better flat whites, but, at the very least, it's tolerable. I tend to stick to tea when I am in here for that reason, but, that said, they have fresh mint tea, so that's all fine with me.
Last, the staff. The staff have always been very friendly each time I've been in, and they have also been patient when we have been taking our time in terms of figuring out what it is we would like to have from their extensive menu.
In my mind, Trade has been a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood indeed. Five stars.
