This was our first visit to this establishment. I had read good things about it and wanted something different for dinner. The Ahi Tuna sandwich was calling me.
We arrived and found a sparsely populated but large restaurant with 4 dining areas. We opted for a 3 top in what I'll call "the library". There is a wall full of books on cooking and food. We had this smaller space to ourselves. There was a smaller room just beyond, and it appears to have just one table with a young couple who appears to be on a date. I was happy for them to have such and intimate spot. When you walk in, you enter a large room with tables, a bar and an open kitchen behind. I would have loved to sit at the bar and watch them work, but after walking through the second large room that had a large party having a meeting of some sort, I found the library and knew that was our spot.
Service was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. We were trying to decide between the green chili cheese fries and one of the 5 ! Mac and cheese choices.
We went with the fries and were very impressed. They are absolutely loaded with fresh chopped chilies and cheese. Great flavor without being overly spicy hot. As a matter of fact, the spice level was quite mild, which I enjoyed very much, as I had had some of the hotter green chili ever for breakfast and needed a break. I'm amazed to see I typed that as I love the heat, but seriously, I needed a break as my belly was still warm from eating some of that leftover green chili burrito at lunch.
This is also why that Ahi Tuna sandwich was calling me. A major break from spicy food. It was the perfect selection. Everything about it was perfect. Big thick chunk of tuna perfectly cooked. The bun was grilled to perfection. LTO and the perfect Mayo topped it all off.
She had the burger sans LTO and add cheese. I had a bite and it was absolutely delicious. Thick patty was cooked to "medium" perfection and was juicy and had an amazing beef flavor.
We did opt for dessert- a chocolate mousse with a rich raspberry sauce and dollop of whipped cream. It was served in a to-go box but we had no issue with that as most of it was going to be taken home and savored in small portions over the next few days. Neither of us can really finish a full dessert these days. As I exited the library into the front dining room/kitchen I saw all the deserts in a large cooler. They all looked great. This one did not disappoint.
To be honest, I can't wait to go back and try more of this menu and get to know these folks better. They are doing something special here. I wish them all the best!
