Trailborn Grand Canyon Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Opened in 2025, this hip, updated take on a 1950s Route 66 motor lodge brings a punch of personality to Williams, Arizona and makes a stylish basecamp near the South Rim. As the latest property from an outdoors-focused brand, it keeps the vintage bones—drive-up rooms on two levels and an old-school oversized neon sign with plastic marquee lettering—while layering in Southwestern chic and homey mid-mod vibes. Rooms echo the surrounding desert with warm woods, leather-stitched lamp shades, black-and-white Wild West prints, and muted earth tones with pops of color; bathrooms are refreshed with walk-in showers and Grown Alchemist bath amenities. Breakfast is included and served in the spacious Camp Hall, which also hosts live music, movie screenings, and family-friendly game nights, and the grounds keep you outside with a kidney-shaped pool and hot tub at the center, a fire pit for s’mores, bocce and cornhole, and rentable bikes. I found the staff go above and beyond to make sure you have an excellent adventure, and the team can arrange guided hikes, stargazing, and helicopter rides over the Grand Canyon; families and pet travelers are well catered for with custom doggie bandanas and in-room “camping” setups with tents and treats. Less than a mile from the Grand Canyon Railway Depot (a more memorable way to reach the rim than driving the 55 miles), the 96-room, 4.5‑star property starts at $175 per night and even houses one of Williams’ best places to eat, Miss Kitty’s Steakhouse." - Lauren Keith

Convenient location as you arrive to Williams. Rooms were exceptionally clean and cozy. I could appreciate the art and style of the room. We arrived in the evening and the heat was on in our room, this was such a sweet touch. Bed was comfortable and had clean sheets. Heat stayed warm throughout the night. Housekeeping staff was friendly and welcoming and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Continental breakfast was good but crowed as hotel seem full capacity. Staff was a bit "in your face" about stuff and kinda followed around as we served ourselves, till we sat. Plenty of food options - waffles, eggs, sausage, muffins, yogurt, etc. Would recommend a small juice station. Coffee and water options available. Also maybe I missed it but would recommend a hand sanitizer station. I noticed quite a few sick people wiping their nose then going back to touch serving utensils etc. We unfortunately didn't get to take advantage of all the amenities but they have bikes to rent, pools, Jacuzzi, stargazing, fire places, etc., and have recommendations for places to go around Williams. Miss Kitty's is located through the lobby, an easy choice if you didn't want to drive or walk elsewhere. See my separate review.

Google
I like “Western” and I like “Chic” but not “Western Chic” which is what this hotel and brand seems to be trying to do. The hotel is just off Interstate 40, relatively close to the Grand Canyon, and a short walk from the Grand Canyon Railway and numerous restaurants. Breakfast is solid, better than most Marriotts. That said, walls are pretty thin and we could hear a lot of sounds from adjacent rooms and cars in the parking lot. Bathrooms are pretty small although the vanity is in the bedroom. Regarding the “Western Chic”, I think the brand needs to decide on whether it wants to be “western” or “chic”. Western would be my preference as chic can vary from person to person. Western is always in style.

Stayed over new years and it was such a great experience. My kids had fun, breakfast was great and walking distance to pretty much everything. Beds were comfy, hotel room was clean and showers were nice also! Next door to canyon coaster and less than 5 min drive to Bearizona. We took advantage of the camper package and our son loved it. Got to sleep in a mini tent in the room came with hot chocolate and a cute stuffed animal. Overall 10/10 experience would definitely stay here again!

The room itself was cute and comfortable. Stylish, cozy, the bathroom had a private door and a bathroom fan! The beds were low to ground and so comfortable. I was amazed at how friendly the staff was throughout the hotel, including the restaurant and breakfast hall. Each person we engaged with were courteous and considerate. Downtown the homey friendliness continued in the stores as we strolled from the hotel to the local spots. Everything is relatively close and you get to see the scenic coaster and pine trees right outside! Very peaceful stay. You can even hear the train pass by.

Love the hotel, the location, amenities, activities and staff! Everyone here deserves a 5 stars, bc you can tell how hard they work and how nice they are keeping a smile on their faces !!! I felt very warmly welcomed at all times. Love the room, felt very private and cozy. The insulated bag is really cute and convenient to bring chilled beverages everywhere. I certainly used the outdoor hot tub, which was very well maintained, every night before bed to relieve the muscles after walking around some of the Grand Canyon’s trails. I love that Williams is a small town , and it feels very peaceful. I definitely recommend this place 10 out of 10, and I’d come back for sure. I’m grateful for the opportunity to stay here!!!

I was so excited about this hotel — it’s rare to find places in the U.S. with such a modern aesthetic at a reasonable price point. We arrived pretty late but were welcomed super warmly. The room was absolutely perfect: a super comfy bed, beautiful interior design, and all those thoughtful little details like the cute retro radio. We also loved the outdoor area — there’s a heated pool and a hot tub (which I definitely enjoyed a lot!), and the sunbeds around looked incredibly aesthetic. Another really cool thing was all the activities they offer: free bikes, a stargazing tour, cornhole, and s’mores by the fire. I love how this hotel focuses on creating moments together, connecting people, and just having fun — such a unique concept! The downside: Unfortunately, the hotel is located near a train track, which woke us up at night even with earplugs in. Breakfast: This was definitely my biggest disappointment. I just don’t get it — such a stylish, modern hotel with a focus on being active, yet the breakfast felt like an afterthought. The options were low quality and far from healthy — I couldn’t even find anything nutritious besides the apples. There’s so much potential here! They could easily elevate it by offering real eggs instead of the powder mix, using real and oat milk for coffee and muesli, providing whole-grain bread, and adding a small fruit and granola bar with Greek yogurt, berries, nuts, seeds, and a few simple veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers. It wouldn’t take much to create a healthy, high-quality breakfast that truly matches the standard and vibe of this hotel — I’m sure other guests would love it too.

Staff were welcoming and professional upon arrival. The lobby has nice ambiance with plenty of snacks and collectibles to purchase. The grounds were well maintained and decorated nicely. Dinner service at Miss Kitty's was excellent. Room was comfortable and styled nicely. Thank you to the team at Trailborn. Well done.

We had a great stay at this motel. The rooms appear to be recently renovated with thoughtful details. We especially enjoyed the great hall with games and tables to enjoy family time outside of the rooms. The outdoor gathering space is also a very nice touch. It was a little too chilly to sit outside at night though, even next to the fire. But they have blankets and that was also a very nice touch. The little gift shop has some cute things to purchase. The complimentary breakfast was good. The only reason I have dropped a star, is because of the check in process. I booked two rooms under two different names (all in the same party) and it was just a cluster. I won’t go into details, but it was not very smooth and a long wait in line (which can’t always be helped, but I’m guessing if the check in was smoother for everyone, it would also be quicker for everyone). Apart from that, we really enjoyed our stay. We would come back.

Yelp
There's a new sheriff in town....and it's called the Trailborn Grand Canyon. Hotels can be a tricky choice, most certainly when it is in a vacation hotspot of Williams, Arizona. Your choices range the standards of commercially recognized properties and a few off brand motels and places of hospitality. It's been a long time since I've looked forward to reviewing a diamond in the crown of hotels local to Williams. From the moment of arrival, the appearance and spirit of the Trailborn embodies everything in a rustic, western, old school environment. The property is immaculate, from the lobby to the grounds to the rooms, the staff are up to the task of providing a pleasant check in process, all of the necessities needed for a memorable stay. The rooms are undeniably comfortable, beds are just perfect, well decorated and just damn charming, a walk back into the past, think back to any summer camp you went to or experienced and you're starting to get the idea. Take into consideration the grounds, a pool and spa, a towering fire pit, bicycles for use by customers, a remarkably beautiful motif with colors that blend in with the towering pine trees, I mean it just couldn't be any more beautiful. Its location on the Main Street of Williams is a brief walk from bustling downtown Williams and all of its shops and eateries, but if you are looking for a spectacular place to dine ? The on-site Ms Kitty's bar and restaurant is going to satisfy every craving, the food is off the charts. By virtue of being a customer ? A 6am complimentary breakfast will start your day before you're off to the Grand Canyon, BeArizona or the Forest slide right next to the property. My past reviews have usually included some disappointment or disdain with some expectation or service, I couldn't find anything wrong here if I tried. Simply put ? When you start researching your vacation or stay ? This property will either show up as available or won't because it's sold out, this being a still relatively new addition to Williams, the word is getting out. The prices are reasonable and most certainly are equivalent to others in the area but there's so much more to offer here. It's takes a village to become top notch, and this will easily become the crown jewel of Williams Arizona while everyone is watching. I've had three one night stays in the last month, I intend to make this a regular stop in my travels.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great spot and it has potential but we won't be back. We had issues with our room. Checked in 10 minutes early, and was told room was still being cleaned, so we waited. Walked in, and noticed floors weren't mopped or vacuumed as there was dog food on the floor and crumbs on the tile. Showers were not cleaned as my husband said there was a huge wad of female black hair bundled up on top of the shampoo/conditioner dispenser. We understand we are in the desert, but this is the only hotel we've ever stayed in out here that had a bug issue. Within 2 hours of being in the hotel, we killed 2 spiders, 1 cricket, 1 nat crawling on a pillow, and one beetle that was crawling across the ceiling. Again, sad to say for the price we expected more. It has so much potential, but the cleanliness was not there whatsoever and was a huge disappointment. Upon checkout, I was asked how our stay was and responded "it was okay, could have been better." and no concern from front staff to ask what any issues were. We won't be back nor would we recommend it to family/friends.

Yelp
If you're ever looking for a delightful place to stay on Route 66 near the Grand Canyon, I highly recommend Trailborn Grand Canyon in Williams! We found this beautifully updated (and wonderfully designed) hotel via Marriott and had a really great experience as a last hurrah of the summer. From the moment we pulled in off Route 66, we were swept into a world of vintage charm and thoughtful design. Every detail felt intentional: the logo, typeface, signage, and room decor were all done perfectly and in sync. With my passion for spatial design, I was genuinely impressed by how the brand identity tied everything together--not just visually, but emotionally. The food at Miss Kitty's Steakhouse was as good as any "foodie" place we've visited in Los Angeles. (And the deserts? Oh my Lord.) The vibes were so good that Robyn and I sat by the fire long after we watched the sunset. Free bikes to get your own kicks on Route 66, afternoon Ranchwater cocktails, and music drifting through the grounds made it feel like a modern-day roadside oasis. If you're heading to the Grand Canyon and want a place that blends nostalgia, style, and story with a lot of heart, Trailborn is where you need to stay. We loved it so much that we added an extra night!

Yelp
Nice very clean. Front desk was very helpful and she was kind of enough to set up kids tent to our room even though she was the only one working there.

Yelp
When we had an opportunity to drive our girls home from college from North Carolina to California my husband said he really wanted to see the Grand Canyon on the way home. He chose Trailborn probably because abuse it has ties to the Bonvoy collection of lodging. Trailborn Grand Canyon appears to be a remodel project where every detail has been thoughtfully executed. The branding is immaculate. So cute. Honestly reminds me of my daughter's artwork and creativity. The accommodations are tight/cozy but super comfy. I needed an iron and they only provide steamers. Very millennial. Steamers don't work for everything. We were only here one night but would like to come back with our whole family and grandson.

Yelp
BEWARE! Terrible experience at Trailborn Grand Canyon. I am a Marriott Lifetime Platinum member and booked a reservation through the Marriott website where the Trailborn is listed. I was emailed a confirmation. Upon check in I was told there was no reservation in my name. However the clerk said sh

Yelp
The fire pit was a nice touch. The rooms are cozy and even have a nice high-tech tea kettle, without having to use the usual coffee pot that most hotels provide and I never use (because who wants to smell musty coffee in your tea?). However, my BED was absolutely HORRIBLE. It's an embarrassment for a hotel to charge as much as they do and have beds of this quality. You can buy a cheap mattress from Walmart that will be comfortable enough for most guests! Get a FOAM mattress with medium firmness, Marriott. It'll suit most guests. There was a horrible mattress dip in the middle of one bed that had me tossing and turning all night. The beds are just way too soft and aren't meant to withstand nightly guests. Get it together, Marriott.

Yelp
Brilliant experience! Our overnight stay at the Trailborn Grand Canyon was perfect for a quick visit to Williams. Dinner at Miss Kitty's was exceptional -- Sue provided wonderful, attentive service that really made the evening. We're already planning to return this summer when we can take more time to enjoy the amenities and the small-town charm. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Dont book here. They have the worst refund policy that they don't honor. Lost money.

Yelp
Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it's a dog friendly property. If those are your main concerns (plus being near the Grand Canyon) then I would say this is a good place to stay. It doesn't get the full 5 stars for me because I couldn't help but feel the customer service was off/lacking. We had a poor experience at Miss Kitty's. We tried to have dinner there with our dog, when we walked in the hostess didn't even greet us instead she mumbled something about the dog and walked away. She and possibly her manager? had a whispered but still visible to us annoyed talk about the dog then turned to us with a super fake friendly smile and told us we couldn't bring the dog inside. I totally understand dogs not being allowed inside, it was the insincerity that bothered me and unfortunately I felt that several times from different employees throughout my stay. Again, if you just need a place to sleep, great. If you care about customer service.. meh maybe look elsewhere.

Yelp
Every one was friendly but my son wanted to go swimming and the pool was very clouding and we brought that to their attention and they said it was the calcium. Wrong, the pool needed chemicals. The attendant emptied the strainer basket and left. I also got double billed for the room WE ate in Kiitys Steak house and ordered Tri tip medium rare, in came out blod red.We sent it back twice. The third time it e was well done and like leather. We told the waitress and they didn't offer us anything any thing to make it right.

John W.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here on our trip to the Grand Canyon, It was a nice place and the staff was super friendly, especially Dana who checked us in, couldn't have been more helpful and informative. The free breakfast was ok, on par with a Holiday Inn Express breakfast, but decent for included. We really enjoyed our stay. Only negatives and reason for 3 stars is the they had a Quinceañera in the main hall that blared music till past 11pm with ZERO consideration for the people paying to stay there. Also, they offered a $10/day dining credit when we checked in, but at checkout the girl would only apply $10 for the 3 days we were there because she said she didn't know how to apply it to the other days. It's only $20, but don't offer it if you're not going to give it or have employees who know how to work your systems.

Yelp
Very nice hotel. Rooms are clean and remodeled.Lots of activities. Staff is great. Close to walk the streets in downtown.

Yelp
Stayed for two nights in late August. I like the vibe and branding, the camp hall area was great, fun games, big open event space off the lobby. The setting was cool and convenient at the end of the 66 strip and service was good. We did have a few issues with our room. The beds are not good, which was surprising considering they should be almost new. Already have low spots, aka back killlers. The sink drain had issues actually draining, and other guests had a similar issue. The body gel and hair products containers in the shower did not work, or were empty. The upper corner of the room door was splitting so hard to open and close. And the housekeeper didn't restock coffee or soap. The only deal breaker for me was the low quality mattresses, if I can't sleep at a motel, why I am there?
