My father used Trainline to book my tickets for me and my two sons for the last 8 years. He was told, when he went to book a table seat for us on LNER, the table is not always guaranteed. So when we would board the train and look for our table seat, we would discover there was no table. We accepted this because we were told there was no guarantee! However, I have recently discovered that what these advisors are telling people over the phone is lies. When table seats are gone, they book you any spare seats on the train, and they tell you we have booked a table for you, but they haven’t. I checked my seats against the seat planner on LNER’s website and discovered there was no table. I called Trainline multiple times about this, and even spoke to a supervisor, who assured me that she had changed my seats and booked a table for me and my son, only to discover she hadn’t! I had checked the seat planner again on LNER’s website and the seats were side by side with no table. She then writes an email saying thank you for your enquiry, I have now booked two seats (no mention of a table) so that if I ever complained, she could deny that I ever asked for a table in the first place!! They lie to customers just to book the seats and make a commission. I have contacted LNER about these agents at Trainline and they told me to always book direct with them. Needless to say I will never book my tickets through these untrustworthy people at Trainline again.
