My Mom and I Became Digital Nomads at the Same Time — Here’s What Traveling Together Is Like

"We took a rowboat through Tràng An’s cave networks and noted that while the route is stunning, it can be claustrophobic for those who are prone to that, so it’s worth considering your comfort with tight spaces." - Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd is a travel, wine and lifestyle writer.  Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Beautiful scenery and great experience, but some minor annoyances We came by motorbike, and there are plenty of parking spots available — all free of charge, which is super convenient. The ticket prices felt fair overall, but the different ticket categories can be a bit confusing at first. It’s best to ask on-site which option fits your plans. The boat ride itself was very beautiful. Huge respect to the women and men who row the boats — really impressive work. The caves are exciting, and the surrounding nature is stunning. You’ll see some construction areas here and there, but on Tour 3 none of them were present at the stops, which was nice. We went during the low season, so it was quite relaxed. In high season, though, I’d probably either come very early or avoid it altogether because it’s likely much more crowded. 👉 Overall, we can definitely recommend a visit. —— One downside for us was an unpleasant interaction with a staff member at the motorbike parking area. He was extremely strict, unfriendly, and acted in a way that felt completely unnecessary and over the top. You can see him in the photo we took. It briefly affected the vibe, but the site itself is still worth seeing.

An unforgettable 2-hour boat ride experience of the Tràng An World Heritage Site. We pre-purchased tickets for our family with a local tour guide and this was the shortest ride that they offer - whereas the longest ride can be 4-hours! Rowers travel from all around Hanoi for the day to row and are limited to one ride per day. Rowers own their boats and it becomes a long term commitment for them to work with the heritage site to provide this service. The designated tower will also accommodate passengers for photos and especially at certain landmarks! We passed through several caves, cross multiple mountain landscapes, and witness breathtaking views. They work hard and diligently so it only felt right to help paddle when possible (although they would never ask!). I was real impressed with their strength, stamina, technique and endurance across the ride. Rowers are so professional that you are unlikely to touch or collide with others since everyone is so aware of each other. There's ample space for boats to pass or slow down for each other (excluding the tight spaces in caves). Give this experience a shot and you won't regret it.

This is such a nice place in Ninh Bhin..it will be remembered for your life time. It's scenic all the way you row the boat. There are 3 routes covering the water ways. We have chosen 2nd route which is for 1.45 hours and you have option to stop at 2 temples. There are multiple temples enroute and enhances the experience. I was thrilled with their natural beauty. I visited this place during drizzling and my experience is great. I seriously suggest pay some decent tip to the farmers who row our boats. They had to do a lot of hardwork and they don't row it like everyday. Optionally there are paddlers in each boat and you can also row the boat. The cave experiences are unique. I would say this is a great and unforgettable experience . There is king kong shaped hill you can see where these movies are shooted.

Peaceful adventurous experience. After reading the reviews of the other similar boat experiences, we have decided to book this one simply because there is no scam feel to it with the boat rowers. The lady was friendly, didn't push for anything to sell, was smiling and patient. I gave her the tip from my gratitude, not from pressure like the other boat experiences. A lovely memory from Vietnam!

I truly cannot give it 3 stars, because it was really beautiful, but the experience was really confusing. I couldn't figure out how to take a guide on the boat (we saw there was a price for it so I'm pretty sure it was possible) but getting to the boat was pretty overwhelming. We didn't know where to go, was there specific queue for the different routes ? (There was not ? I think you just have to talk to the lady ordering the boat and she'll match you up with some boat). So we went into our boat with two Vietnamese ladied who were very nice but did try to talk to us as we just looked as fish out of water. They were very nice and kind of adopted us as we stopped at the different pagodas and went roaming together. (Very nice and very cute). Anyway my problem is the lack of directions at the stops, we didn't stop at the first temple we were supposed to, I don't know why, but we didn't have the courage to ask anyway. The second, we went there with the Vietnamese ladies and we got kinda lost, there was supposed to be tran (I think ?) temple, the one only route one can give you access to, and we just ended up climbing stares to two pavillion that weren't worth the stairs ? And we just went back. The grottos were nice, do bring something for the water though as the ceiling rains on your head. The last temple was in construction, so we saw a total of 0 beautiful temple In route one. There was not many people on this route so maybe the information was somewhere and we missed it ? Also we wanted to tip our boat rower but we missed our timing and he seemed really disappointed, so do really think about giving it before arriving.

Great experiance! We took boattrip 1, we liked it a lot. No waiting, no crowd, realy relaxed. A bit unclear what to do at the ticketoffice though. The whole facility is very professional, clean, organised. Good job! Free parkig where you get a ticket with your registrationplate on it, why? Parking is free, but when we got back there were like 2 million scooters🤪, it could help to find the right one.

Such an amazing experience! We chose Route 1 and went through nine beautiful caves. The views were incredible, and it wasn’t crowded—most of the time, it was just our boat! We’ll definitely return to try the other routes. Tip: If you’re also visiting Bai Dinh Pagoda, buy the combo tickets!

So so beautiful and very much worth it! Came there on a weekday, early in the morning (around 8am), as a couple. There was no waiting line, and we also didn’t have to wait for them to find other 2 people for our boat, as it was smoothly organized. All is very well organized and the scenery is just stunning. It was not too crowded! I recommend to tip the person on your boat as 3 hours of rowing is hard work ☺️
