Going to Trang is a weekly ritual of mine.
Judging by the buzz of people dining there every night of the week, I'd say going to Trang is a weekly ritual for a lot of people. From the outside, it looks like a homely place, with it's pale and chipped light blue painted walls, it's trestle tables and non- descript chairs, and on the inside it's much the same story. People do not line up out the door for the surrounds.
It's about the food. There's a plethora of great dishes to try out, including but not limited to the crispy skin chicken, and the beef rice vermicelli salad. However, the real winner is the pho, or rare beef noodle soup. If you take a moment to look around while you're dining there, you'll see a good proportion of your fellow diners leaning over swimming pool sized bowls of pho, trying to resist the urge to dive in. Inside your bowl of pho, is a wonderland of noodles, soaking in a broth that really just isn't like anything else you've had, and on the bed of noodles lie skinny long strips of raw beef that cook in the boiling hot broth. They bring out a platter of basil, lemon, chilli sauce and sprouts for you to add to your broth bringing in a play element to your meal. What's more is that pho is only $10. Most things on the menu at Trang are just over $10 making it some of the best value eats around.
They do get well busy of a night time, and you may have to wait a bit longer for service, but it's worth the wait. The food usually comes out quite quickly too. What I like best is that if I come in with a large group of people, they are usually happy to split the bill even when they are quite busy.
Come here for a first date, take your family here, go there by yourself, go there for take out- just find any half good reason to go there.
You'll be glad you did.
