TRATA: The Restaurant At The Armory

Google
First time there, very pleased with our visit. We had a group of six out on the patio (it fills up quick I recommend getting there closer to 4 of possible). It was spacious, clean, had nice ambiance, wasn't too loud, and our waiter Collin was very attentative. The Soft Pretzels, Carnitas Nachos, Steamed Buns, Blackened Shrimp Tacos, Blackened Shrimp Pasta and Onion Smashburger were all very good. If you like nachos and pretzels, definately try those.

Google
Trata, is a unique dining experience at the Culver road Armory. A menu full of variety, suitable for all tastes, and budgets. Offering an incredibly large selection of beers, wines and cocktails, served by an efficient and friendly staff. Dining room seating available both indoor and outdoor, on various floors. The roof top bar in lounge is a great feature. Reservations and special private party events offered.

Google
The atmosphere is modern, industrial with a unique layout (different levels). Staff was wonderful and so was the food, especially the burgers. The dessert is worth trying, like the chocolate chip cookie skillet with ice cream!

Google
Atmosphere and area is really nice. The food could have been better. While options are lacking, the shrimp in my dish were really tasty but I only had about 5 of them. The pasta needed flavor. Ordered a Caesar salad that I would put right at 3 also.

Google
Went there as a large party for a birthday. Food was fine, not bad but not great. Server was good. It was my first time there and he explained the beer wall to us. The problem was as a large table, they refuse to split the bill and added a 20% tip. We had to tip on the beer we bought at the beer wall, which we had to go and get ourselves, and also look up the menu for what they had on their website while we were sitting at the table. Not overly impressed with the place. But it's the cool place to be to show off on insta.

Google
Great atmosphere with several cozy spots inside. Downstairs bar for sports, upstairs eating area and a beer wall side room. Food was good and spicy Margareta was a treat. Nashville chicken sandwich was my treat. Our server Brian was excellent and attentive!

Google
We booked the beer wall for a semi- private event and I can’t recommend this place enough. Most of our party was visiting from out of town and the space was perfect for our needs. The service was attentive and very accommodating with our birthday celebration needs. Jessica was the best! The beer wall was a huge hit and the cards were easy once figured out. Food was also delicious. I highly recommend this place and look forward to the next!

Google
07/30, we went back today after a wonderful experience at rooftop last time. Sadly it was not open due to lack of staffing on a wonderful summer evening. So we went down stairs by the bar where two managers were standing by the door, the bartender was busy and no server came to take care of us. I guess that lack of consistency makes it hard to know when going to Trata could be a good experience. So, we left.

Yelp
This is my fourth time here. After my last visit I was not going to go back, however I received a gift card for Christmas and I am happy to say it was great! Service was spot on, food was delicious and drinks were great! I love the many seating choices and they had great beers on tap. If you choose to sit in the bar area it's open and spacious. Upstairs is perfect for getting together with friends or family. I will be going back.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious. We went for an early Father's Day dinner on the Saturday and we got 2 of the specials. Our waitress, Tabitha was tentative and very informative.
google avatar

Marissa N.

Yelp
Went to a work function there and the spread of appetizers they put out and attended to were delicious. We frequently got visits from wait staff for drink orders or just check ins. It was nice to by upstairs in one corner rather than downstairs by the happy hour crowd.

Yelp
This place is headed down the spiral. It used to be a high quality meal and drinks. The location is lovely, the staff are wonderful, the food is awful. I am certain that the shrimp tacos are possibly the worst I have ever eaten. They are so covered in sauce, and accompanied by the saddest flour tortillas you can buy. Overall everyone at the table had to pick through their meal and no one was impressed. You can tell that the direction of the restaurant is going backwards as the majority of the food is now burgers. This place needs a new chef and kitchen staff ASAP. Not remotely worth spending money on, would rather find a street vendor. Also on the list for most mediocre and overpriced drinks. I have to say that years ago this place was really top-notch. Something went wrong. Help! This place is just waiting for Gordon Ramsay to show up and clean it out.

Yelp
Had a group meet up here for happy hour at the rooftop bar. I was honestly shocked by the service. When we could finally get our drinks, they were inconsistent in taste and presentation. Both bartenders would try not to make eye contact with anyone while looking miserable the entire 4 hours our group was there. Truly regretted choosing this location.

Yelp
I came here for the first time tonight. I met up with some friends I hadn't seen in awhile and we stayed for three hours chatting. We never felt rushed. Our server was really nice. I got some Orange Blossom martini I think it was called... it was nearly evil. It was smooth and did not taste like alcohol. I could have had five but I was driving. It was a really, really good drink. I don't like drinks that are very strong and overpoweringly alcohol tasting. Damn, it was mighty fine. I had the grilled cheese and onion sandwich because my mama didn't raise no dummy (yes, she did who are we kidding!?!?) I took to Yelp beforehand and noticed it's popular. I asked for light onions I can't imagine what it would have been like full on onion. I feel my sandwich was perfect. Crispy, warm, gooey with some kick ass onions. The soup that accompanied it was a bit too sweet for me. I usually do add a little sugar to tomato soup but this didn't need it. I had a few bites of it but I can't say I enjoyed it very much. I also got the choice of another side. I decided on the Mac and cheese. It was very good. It made up for the soup. It was well seasoned and not bland. I have to say the dessert selection is pretty dismal. Normally, I'd probably give this place a 4, but the food I had was great, my one friend got the sandwich too and liked it, my other friend had the steak frites and liked that as well. The food is presented nicely. The service was excellent. And yes, I tipped 50% to make up for the time we spent camping.

Yelp
The beer wall was a gimmick but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. A solid place to meet up with friends grab a bite and have a beer. The wings were fantastic. Crispy and not over sauced. French onion soup was okay and the smash burger was okay. Server was nice but we waited nearly an hour for apps and the entree came out about 20 minutes after. I'd go back.
google avatar

pantea T.

Yelp
Amazing again the food and service is just getting better! I hope they also consider adding more options on dessert menu that also tastes fresh Worth every penny!
google avatar

Thomas T.

Yelp
The ambiance here is very cool with a modern industrial vibe. There's outdoor seating for dine-in. The service is slow and could have used another server. The smashburger is cooked well done and had good flavor with their sauce. The fries are also nice and crispy.

Yelp
Being in Rochester for almost 5 years now, we've always past this place, not knowing to expect. Last night, we decided to check it out, although it was busy, we were able to get a table. We sat on the rooftop, and the view was really nice. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We plan on going back for drinks sometime in the future.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
Last night we came to Dinner. Dark Mojito & lavender Collins cocktails to start and Tempura Cauliflower. Really good, a slight kick or more with all the Jalapeños. Short Ribs Nachos & Pork Banh Mi followed. Huge portions to share. The Banh mi side was a very nice salad. Service attentive. Place was packed.

Yelp
Had the whole extended family there following my daughter's graduation. Food was excellent and the drinks were as well. Especially liked the Spiced Cream Soda Old Fashion. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Let's start with the service. We, a party of 8, were seated promptly as we were some of the first guests for a Sunday noon opening. Unfortunately it took almost 10 minutes before our server arrived. After ordering things took another turn. My wife & I both ordered soup, hers came, mine did not. The meals came after 20-25 minutes. (Our lunch took over 2 hours). Since it was my birthday we ordered a couple of desserts. One came fairly quickly, the second came about 20 minutes later. Lots of frustration as it felt like we were always waiting! The food: My French onion soup was luke warm and my Caesar salad near tasteless. My wife had the duck quesadilla with cranberry. No taste of duck or cranberry. She ate just one piece. The server was often gone for 10-15 minutes at a time. We had to ask for more water even though it was obvious our glasses were empty. I was excited to be going here for my birthday. What a complete disappointment it was.

Yelp
I heard from a Friend about this place so I decided to check it out. Great Service, Great Food and Cocktails. Yeah I'll come back.before the summer is over.
google avatar

Roshan R.

Yelp
Pros: Big screens. Deck seating. Good cocktail selection. The happy hours deals are pretty cool. Love the beer wall. Amazing beer selection for very nominal prizes, especially during an important football game. Very friendly and supportive staff. The waitress split the grilled cheese and fries to two plates on learning we were going to share it. Cons: Limited menu and underwhelming taste. Luke warm and definitely not fresh fries. Tasted like frozen and reheated multiple times.
google avatar

Deborah N.

Yelp
Good place for drinks and appetizers, often we have group get togethers here! The food is typical bar fare but it all is pretty tasty!
google avatar

Daniela H.

Yelp
Beautiful and hugeeee establishment. Too bad they don't take online reservations because the wait time is super long. I dont know what the crave is about. Limited menu. Food is ehh. Very very salty items that do not look like some of the pictures I saw. The burgers were salty but clumped in one area of the cooked meat. The nachos had a horrible bitter cheese beer sauce and was suppppper salty. Fries were ok. Maybe would come for drinks but otherwise not the place for me

Yelp
Tonight we enjoyed a lovely dinner on the roof deck at TRATA. It is so beautifully setup that it almost gave us the feeling of having dinner on vacation. Our server was great -- checking in just often enough and paying attention to everything. The burger was juicy and thoughtfully prepared. We subbed in the Mac and Cheese for fries because we knew it was extra delicious here. The Pork Bahn Mi was a good portion and prepared perfectly. The pickled veggies were a wonderful contrast. The Vegetarian in our party enjoyed their Harvest salad. We capped it off with their skillet cookie. While it was a 15 minute wait -- which our server prepared us for -- it is absolutely worth it. The roof deck gets busy fast, so arrive early. We will definitely be back. Such a beautiful setup!
google avatar

Kiera A.

Yelp
This space is beautiful and it has great ambiance. For me, that's where the positives end. My server was pretty absent though the upper area wasn't very populated, the menu was just "meh" to me, and the dish I had was underwhelming.
google avatar

Abby D.

Yelp
Had stopped going to TRATA years ago because it just really dropped in quality and Rochester just has so many other great options. Went tonight though because a friend gave us a gift card. Sadly it just tastes like mall food, or a cafeteria. The drinks are just ok and the service is dreadfully slow. For this type of menu I'd recommend Lucky's on Winton which is absolutely amazing.

Paul R.

Yelp
Went here on very busy night but service was very good. It did take a while to get our burgers but they were very tasty. Gets a bit loud whether you are upstairs or down. Beer wall is very cool too. Definitely worth the visit but next time maybe not in a weekend.
google avatar

Shaina G.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. The environment is cute, modern. They have a rooftop in the summer, which is nice. The food was bland though. I had a pasta dish that was supposed to have cheese and I am still waiting for the cheese and salt. The tomatoes in the dish was nice though. The server was really nice though.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
Smart, clean space with upscale ambiance. Multiple levels. Seem to remember hearing about an outside user deck. May get busy, consider making a recommendation. Good, central location at I490 and Culver Road near Park Ave area. Bar is loud but has TVs for sports and lots of stools. See the beer wall: you trade your credit card for a magnetic card for self serve metered pours of beer (or 3 wines). Neat concept. Half the wall are sours, hazes, and ciders. The burgers are solid choices. Other entrees ... may be oddly unsatisfying: too salty, too spiced, or not enough flavor. My opinion may not be universal - YMMV - form your own opinion. This is more about the scene than the food.

Ash C.

Yelp
Terrible service, waited 40 minutes after our reservation to get seated and we suspect it's because we're a visibly queer couple. The only other couple who waited as long as we did was also a queer couple. We were told when we arrived that it would be 5-10 minutes till we were seated, we waited 45. We arrived at 7:55 and were seated at 8:40. Our reservation was for 8. Several other couples were sat first, even those who arrived after us and had later reservations. We passed several empty tables on our way. We ended up leaving before getting food. We were really excited for a special valentines date and were totally disappointed and let down. Absolutely do not recommend to anyone, especially queer couples.

Yelp
I liked both the food and the atmosphere. Went here for my 23rd birthday. Only thing was the weird specs in the water.
google avatar

Don O.

Yelp
Love TRATA. Great service, food is consistently excellent (pork buns, fish tacos, are great). On-line reservations are always appreciated. Beer wall is a fun novelty, great for trying out smaller samples of new beers. Wine selection is far more limited.
google avatar

Paula J.

Yelp
I think my favorite thing about TRATA is their happy hour. The rooftop bar is great, and their happy hour drink and food specials tend to be pretty good and very affordable. Their new beer wall is also a very cool idea, especially for someone like me who must try everything ! I think overall, their dinner is good, but doesn't blow me away. I really like the nachos. The fish tacos are good, and their burgers are good too. I'd recommend coming here for drinks and apps!

Yelp
I'll start by saying that this used to be my all time favorite restaurant years ago. It was a great spot for date night. Great place for a girls outing or birthday celebration. When I moved back to this area, it was the place I was most excited for. Friends in the area had said it went downhill. I didn't want to believe them. We came on a weeknight for dinner and sat on the rooftop patio. There was about a 40 minute wait. Our server was very sweet and friendly. The food took a long time to arrive. My favorite dish has always been the brussel sprout salad. It used to be very crisp and refreshing with pancetta and cherry tomatoes, the dressing used to be light. This time it was soggy and sloppy. There was no freshness to it. We also ordered nachos which came cold, with minimal toppings. We asked for chicken on the nachos instead of chorizo. The chicken was very sparse, about 5 chunks, and very dry. It is advertised as having corn and pico on it. We asked for more of this to top it with. Not at all worth $17. The beer wall was something new to me here. The list online did not reflect what was available on tap. So after looking and deciding, we were disappointed to have to choose something else. Overall I was very saddened by my meal. Our cocktails were pretty good. The outdoor atmosphere was nice. I might come back for a drink. But don't think I'll ever come back for dinner. Very disappointed in how it had changed.

Atticus L.

Yelp
Confused employees and rude waitstaff. 60% of the beer wall was not functioning. Better places to take your money yallll
google avatar

Yelp
Went here for the first time Sunday afternoon to celebrate a friend's birthday. I will say it was packed with football fans mostly, but also in general which made it difficult to flag down our server at times.... and also obtain the card necessary to get drinks. What a great concept though! The selections were amazing, you could rinse your glass and choose something different each visit and only ran across one that was empty. The food was delicious and brought out in a timely manner and I would have to say all things considered, I was pretty impressed. I would definitely visit here again, most likely during a slower time of day.

Yelp
My friend and I came in last minute and we were so happy with our experience. The workers were really nice and attentive. The food was amazing! We literally couldn't stop eating, we were telling each other that we were full but the food was so good. For my grilled cheese I asked if I could have bacon instead of onions and they were very accommodating. The atmosphere was nice and seemed to change based on were you were seated. Down on the first floor in the front it was more loud and open with larger tables, leaving room for mingling and larger groups. On the second floor, where we were placed, there was a variety of tables and booths, we were set an a booth by the bar. And the bathrooms were quite cool too! You'll have to go to check them out. Overall, our experience was pretty good we enjoyed the drinks and the food! I even ended up having a date there two days later, haha.
google avatar

Yelp
Duck quesadilla has such a unique flavor, should def try! I really liked the steamed buns, the pork belly was nicely cooked and juicy. I loved the Buffalo cauliflower, can't go wrong with that. I order the banh mi sandwich with a house salad and the portions were great but something felt like it was missing with the flavor, the bread was a little too hard for me. Otherwise, lovely service and ambience.

Matt M.

Yelp
Food was fantastic for all courses. Our server Frank was one of our best servers we have had at any restaurant. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and overall a great server. We will definitely be back and be requesting Frank in the near future.

Velvet B.

Yelp
Had a party of4 and we all wanted to order dessert. After 45 minutes the server comes over and says "oh sorry kitchen is closed". K maybe you should check on your tables more often. Now you dropped your own bag.
google avatar

Belen P.

Yelp
Trata is always a good vibe specially in the summer. Apps are my favorite thing here. Their beer wall is really cool! Definitely a rochester staple!
google avatar

Zaarib Z.

Yelp
Had the fried chicken sandwich (not pictured) and this burger. The burger itself wasn't too bad but the fired chicken sandwich was a bit too saucy. Service was really good tho
google avatar

Dabe M.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Love the roof top bar and patio... Feels almost like a Caribbean pool bar, sadly minus the palm trees. The indoor bar is a good place to grab a (somewhat expensive) burger and beer.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and the wagyu burger. The Nashville Hot tastes like sweet and sour or General Tso, with a hint of spiced flare - Nothing like any take on a Nashville Hot I've ever had, and not in a good unique way. The flavor was fine, though not what it's supposed to be. They use large cubed pickles which is not good for a sandwich as they fall off easily. My biggest issue was that the sandwich was just tossed into a large container with no protection to gold it together - a smaller container or wrapped in a piece of parchment would have been logical. The wagyu burger was good, though it was ordered medium rare and arrived EXTRA rare, like soft to the touch rare (the picture did not save). So it was good, just not cooked to order. The Cesar salad I got seemed to have an in house dressing which I liked, though the rustic in house croutons were so stale and hard they could barely be eaten. If you like "fancy bar food", try it out, but I recommend eating in as the take out experience was not encouraging.

Yelp
This was a great breakfast! I would recommend taking the trip over to TRATA!! Omelette
google avatar

Amanda E.

Yelp
Service was great! Food was just okay. Nachos had barely any meat, burger was not cooked how asked. Cocktail was good.
google avatar

Tabby A.

Yelp
Salt, salt, salt ... even when you ask for very little salt on your order. The vibe of the restaurant and the decor are good ~ though the noise level is too high.

Yelp
I'd heard amazing things about Trata and was excited to try it, but it ended up being a pretty big fail. We had a party of six for brunch and were sat at a nice long table on the upper floor. It started off comfortable, then everything started deteriorating. Our server acted extremely inconvenienced by us and made several rude comments. It was as if it was our fault we were seated in his section - and our fault he was working on a Sunday. It made everyone uncomfortable and none of us wanted to bother him to ask for anything. Now to the food - I was in between a few items on the menu but landed on the huevos rancheros, per the server's recommendation. I'm not sure if something went wrong in the kitchen or if it is typically like this, but the huevos rancheros were unlike any I've ever seen before. It was essentially an ice cold bean soup in a skillet with the fixings and a piece of egg floating in it. I'm surprised it even came out of the kitchen and was served like that. Our waiter was so difficult that I didn't bother to say anything, tried to eat what I could of it without having a spoon and took the L. I left Trata feeling hungry and like I lit money on fire. It was a very disappointing experience. I'll wrap this up on a positive note though - the rest of the staff seemed friendly, it has nice ambiance and the rooftop bar seemed like it could be fun with the right weather.
google avatar

Kathryn T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to Trata almost 10pm last night and food was all worth for the late night! When we came to restaurant and the lady in the bar told us that booths are closed but we can eat at bar. The menu had a lot of choices to pick and a wine & beer list. We decided to pick wine and two meals. The waiting for food wasn't that longer and we got appetizer and entree at same time. I have to admit that I was kind of skeptical of duck quesadilla because I normally would order peeking duck with mandarins pancakes and hosin sauce. This is definitely a huge change for me and I decided to give a try. I was totally glad that I did!!! The veggie burger with lettuce wrapped (I normally would omit buns for hot dogs and burgers and replace with lettuce) and duck quesadilla were so delicious that I could feel like I have died and have gone up to the heavens!!!! Kudos to these chefs who made them! I'd recommend you guys to go there if you guys happen to try find late night dinner and this place is a great place to go because they stay open till 12am during weekdays!

Jon I.

Yelp
Over cooked lame mediocre food. Not worth the price...portions are small, very noisy. Difficult to hold a conversation. Service was good.
google avatar

Sally A.

Yelp
Convenient location. Good size venue for groups, fun/unique atmosphere (must try the beer wall), well made cocktails (happy hour 4-6 weekdays!) and plenty of selections on the menu for everyone.
google avatar

Corey P.

Yelp
Such a beautiful restaurant. The interior favors a NYC loft; high ceilings, modern lighting, exposed brick all around. The brick complements well with the wood and metal accents. The main level stands as the bar/social area. We came here for the food so we were sent to the second level. I ordered a new IPA from their extensive draft menu while my girlfriend tried the pomegranate margarita. The margarita would've been a perfect summer drink; fresh pomegranate juice instead of the heavy syrup. As for my drink, you really can't go wrong with a cold IPA. I ordered the black bean burger with fries and she ordered the chicken sandwich with a honey bbq glaze. We had 0 complaints! Served in under 20 minutes, hot and fresh, and the presentation was great, especially for a burger and a sandwich. Trata is a great place to check out for a date, catching up with friends, or showing visitors of the city what Rochester has to offer! Definitely not my last time here.
google avatar

Lea H.

Yelp
Met friends here for drinks and light snacks. We were able to get seats on the rooftop which has ample seating, a bar and a relaxing atmosphere. The tables do have umbrellas for shade. Friendly and efficient wait staff. 1 dish we ordered was not satisfactory -the calamari was rubbery. We sent it back and just took it off the check. Their wings are fried without breading and are worth ordering again. I'd definitely return with friends or for a fun date night.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with friends Pros: - Very friendly staff - Beautiful atmosphere to dine in - Food was well prepared and came out hot, really enjoyed the French Onion Grilled Cheese Cons: - The Nashville Crispy Chicken was heavily breaded and a bit too saucy

Yelp
Just what we were looking for. We visited here after a horrible experience at the New York Beer Project. We were able to sit right away and the service was amazing. Our server Kennedy was just the nicest young man. Will definitely be back not only for the food but the service especially.
