"Feast on fresh-caught fish and seafood and wash it down with Italian wine during a leisurely summer lunch at Alla Maddalena on Mazzorbo Island. A 45-minute ferry ride from Venice and far removed from the crowds, this charming, less touristy and altogether tiny island in the Venice lagoon is wonderful place to escape for an afternoon. And Alla Maddalena serves amazing fried fish as well as top-notch mussels and clams, all of which can be eaten al fresco either in the back garden or by the canal. The trattoria is also known for handmade pastas and seasonal ingredients from fruits to locally hunted game like wild duck. (Mazzorbo isa short walk across footbridge from Burano Island, so if you're planning a trip to Burano, you can add a stop here for dinner.)"

Where Locals Eat in Venice - AFAR

"Located on Mazzorbo (attached to Burano and about a 45-minute boat ride from Venice), this island trattoria has a shaded front patio under a pergola and is praised for the best fried fish, excellent pasta, mussels and clams, and a memorable fig tart made with figs from the restaurant’s garden; it pairs well with a relaxed day of walking and a visit to the neighboring winery." - Ashlea Halpern

The best: the food and eating outside. The food is super good, and eating in the tables outside with the view of the canal gives all the Venice vibes. Prices are high/medium but house wine is cheap. Loved the risotto. Attention is good and fast.

We liked the fritto misto, and mixed seafood starter. Despite the simple plating, the baccalà mantecato was very tasty, though the grilled squid could do with a little more love. Basically it was v rustic, bland squid on plain arugula. It's a convenient spot right before Murano with a great lagoon view. Worth a visit, perhaps with some dishes being stronger than others.

Absolutely fantastic! Calm spot a bit away from the selfie sticks. Marinated sardines first - really really good and then sole as mani course. And a splendid Americano to start with. One of my best lunches ever.

We stopped for lunch at this small lovely typical local restaurant with our boat on a friend's suggestion. Good thing we had a reservation as it is a very popular restaurant. What you get here is honest, very tasty home style Venetian food at excellent prices, with good old school service to boot. Everything we have tasted was just right. This one is a keeper.

Best seafood we had in Italy! Very fresh and the grilled cuttlefish was amazing! All the food and the house wine was delicious. Very friendly and helpful waitstaff.

Grazie! Thank you for a wonderful experience today. Lunch was amazing. Would definitely recommend making this a stop on your Venice vacation. Remember to make reservations, it’s always full!

Nicest staff in the world!!! I visited Burano yesterday, and had a great time, but my phone died at some point. When I got back to Venice, I realized that I no longer had my phone, and likely left it somewhere by accident. It was too late for me to go back for it because it was almost night time by the time I realized. I turned on lost mode on the Find My app from my mom’s phone and wrote a message to display on my phone if opened. I was worried sick, and wondered if I would ever see it again, knowing that the chances of my phone being returned to me were slim, because it could be anywhere. Today, I got a notification on my mom’s Find My app about my phone’s location. I called my phone, and a person picked up, letting us know the location of the restaurant. We travelled back to Burano, and got my phone immediately, with the battery already charged halfway. Everyone was so nice and when I offered money for returning my phone, the staff refused to accept it. Thank you so, so much to everyone for helping me and I hope everyone has an amazing day! TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS READING THIS REVIEW, COME HERE FOR THE GREAT VIEW AND SPECTACULAR SERVICE!!!! 10000000/5 stars, best experience ever!!

Google
By far the best restaurant in Burano, which was highly recommended to us by the local Venicians. The house wine was inexpensive and absolutely delicious. We had one of the best gnocchi from our trip which melted in the mouth. The bronzino ravioli were delicious. Servers were very welcoming and helpful. The panacota was to die for. All this is in addition to the beautiful and peaceful location, on the canal, away from the street noice of Burano

Yelp
We went here based on good yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint. They took us in even though it was a few minutes before closing time for lunch. We had the octopus salad, the fried calamari, and the seafood pasta, and everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. If this was in Venice where we were staying for the night, I would've gone back for dinner!

Yelp
This place is worth the 10 minute walk away from the Burano tourist zone. Charming seafood focused restaurant with great food and friendly service at reasonable prices. We had the Go Risotto (€12/pp, minimum 2 persons), fried calamari and grilled vegetables. A perfectly satisfactory meal that left us stuffed (portions are very generous) and ready for a nap.

Yelp
I really recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Venice and especially if you are doing a DIY-tour visiting Murano and Burano. I found it hard to find a nice quiet spot on the Murano and Burano islands except on this small Mazzorbo island next to Burano, connected by a bridge The restaurant is one where locals escape to in their weekends. They hop on the boat, jump off at the Mazzorbo stop, have lunch and go back to Venice. It has a nice garden with tables both in the sun and in the shadow. They have a daily menu, but not the typical tourist menu, which is nice and really value for money. The food and wine is good, prices OK, coffee excellent, the location excellent.

Yelp
The pasta we had at Trattoria alla Maddalena was very good. But what really made this review a solid five stars is the service. Every restaurant staff was friendly, patient with our basic Italian, and helpful with what dishes to choose. We had the spaghetti with seafood and it was amazing! The pasta was perfectly al dente and there was an abundance of seafood in the dish. Clams, mussels, shrimp, prawns, galore! We enjoyed every single bite! We also had the salted caramel flan and it, too, was delightful. After we walked around Mazzorbo to look at the suspended art, we walked back to the restaurant and asked if we could use their gabinetti before our long vaporetto (water bus) ride home. Even though the restaurant was already closed for the afternoon, they were gracious and accommodating with our one last request. We will definitely go back to this restaurant. Wonderful food and wonderful service.

Yelp
Attention seafood lovers: this was one of the best seafood meals we had in Italy. Clams, mussels and scallops were all delicious as were the apps and desserts. Highly recommend visiting this place and making sure to call ahead.

Yelp
Friendly staff, light and modern rooms with great view on the laguna from the quiet Island. The sea food is fresh and prepared with style. The risotto from the local gò fish is great, the white house wine a perfect fit. And give the home-made deserts a chance - I enjoyed the tiramisu very much.

Yelp
We walked 20 minutes from our Burano VRBO, and we're just sorry we didn't discover this last night. What a wonderful, low key, elegant, local place with perfect service. The food was some of the best we've had in Northern Italy. The mixed grill fish platter had 5 different selections and the soft shell crab of the lagoon rivaled the best Maryland soft shell crab I've had. The octopus appetizer was tender, warm and mixed nicely with olives, lettuce, potatoes and olive oil. Yum. The only mis-step for us (and it's a common one) was with the 80's lite pop music (think Air Supply) playing softly in the background. We'd like to hear some thing local. The meal was complimented by a dish of local deserts, on the house.
