I just went here for a quick lunch with a friend and I was really disappointed with our experience. Starting off with what I liked about the place, the interior is charming, very much like eating at an Italian family home, plus the service was quite good, everyone was nice and the place seems to be family run which is really nice. I appreciate that.
The problem I have with Coco Lezzone was the food and the price. Me and my friend both ordered pasta & fagioli soup which if you know Tuscany, you know this dish - Very much a local comfort food and I normally. Literally 3 minutes after we ordered, two watery bowls of 'pasta e fagioli' were placed in front of us. 3 minutes? I wish they would have pretended by keeping it out just a few minutes longer. The pasta was limp and the beans were few, it felt a bit like what you would eat at a prisoner camp, on a positive note, the olive oil on top was great!
We weren't too hungry but we decided to go for dessert, I got the creme caramel, my friend a tiramisu. Both were just ok, nothing to write home about. We skipped coffee and paid the bill which is when the real shocker came. 39.00 euros for what was basically a very very light lunch.
This meant 9 euros a pop for the very shallow-dished water soup, and a high service charge. Water was 2 euros a bottle and not for a liter but half liter, seriously! And dessert was 7 euros a piece which is insane, at least for that dessert. I have had desserts for less with at least some attempt at presentation, which I would have 100% overlooked if it was truly remarkable. I really couldn't believe I was spending 20 euros for water, soup and a dessert for 30 minutes of a meal.
I think places like this should really think about offered a lunch menu that is something to write home about. Take a lesson from Trattoria di Mario or Chicco di Caffe and try to impress your guests, not leave them feeling jipped like I did. Sadly it was probably the worst meal I've had in some time. Highly recommend nearby Hosteria il Desco, or Trattoria di Mario in San Lorenzo, Chicco di Caffe in santo spirito, all which have traditional Tuscan food for the right price, not this 'lets overcharge tourists bit'.. There are so many awesome traditional restaurants (Like trattoria brindellone) that are so much better than this place..
