This place was recommended by our Air BnB owner Marco. It did. It disappoint. We wanted to try the Florentine Steak and it was yummy (keep in mind it is served rare). My bf and I shared the tortelli to start. It’s like ravioli stuff with a fluffy mashed potato and ground meat and red wine sauce on top. We shared the 1kg steak (shared) and mushrooms and potatoes. So filling. We ended up being most of the potatoes home for breakfast the next day (too yummy to leave). The service was fantastic as is the atmosphere. Highly recommend this place as it’s less touristy. Recommend the Rossi di Montalcino (32€) it’s light with a little body. Goes perfectly with a heavy meal. I highly recommend making a Reso through google as the place was packed at 9:30pm.

Beautiful spot in a nice neighbourhood away from the noise and tourists. Mostly locals dining and the staff and food was all fantastic. One of the best meals of Florence

Google
Trattoria Dell’Orto is exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble upon in Florence: relaxed, authentic, and full of character. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it’s clearly a favorite among locals. The pappardelle al cinghiale was rich and flavorful, and the peposo con spinaci was so comforting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a genuine Tuscan dining experience away from the tourist traps.

Google
Our Airbnb host recommended Trattoria Dell'Orto. The food was delicious, the staff was great, and the atmosphere cozy and warm. We ordered Tagliolini al Tartufo ( tagliolini, served with a sauce made with butter, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and truffles) and Tagliata Di Manzo Al Gorgonzola (thin sliced beef steak served with Gorgonzola cheese, served over a bed of arugula) . Both were excellent and the tiramisu for dessert was delicious. We were almost the last to leave and as we paid our bill we were offered to have a shot (or two!) of Vecchio Amaro Del Capo with the staff. :) I highly recommend you check this place out.

Beautiful experience The food was amazing The service was really good We got to try their local wine + 1.2kg tomahawk steak + 2 salads + an amazing fresh tiramisu All for 124€ (3 people)

The tomahawk steam was absolutely delicious, the staff is super friendly and the tiramisu is home made and amazing! Prices were reasonable. Very recommended!

I have learned during my adventure that Italian chefs are passionate about their menu and the customers' satisfaction. Now, to foreigners or those unfamiliar with this personality, it will come across as rude. Please know it's not rude. It's a passion for their training, skill, and trade. With that being said, the food at Trattoria was phenomenal. Every plate was made with detail to flavor and presentation. The gnocchi was hands down the best we have had. It is so perfectly cooked and sauced. This is a must visit restaurant, and you plan to spend a minimum of 2 hours. Only because this experience should be savored.

Google
The restaurant is a bit far away from the main city. They serve quite a lot of nice selection of food on the menu! The beef slices were really good even without aging the meat. The zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and chives seems to be a specialty. They also offer a selection of homemade wines. The ambience was also pretty old school but comfy.

Yelp
My niece and I ate here last night and we loved everything about it. We split a steak Florentine, Greek salad and a pesto pasta. When I ordered the steak they told me it comes red and with no accompaniments. It is served rare and so flavorful. It was priced by the pound and came to 36 euros and definitely had some leftovers, it is enormous. I suggest ordering with a salad or vegetable. The Greek salad was delicious. My niece said her pesto was the best of her life :) The service was great as well. Nice warm atmosphere. I would love to come back some day.

Yelp
Best food i had in Italy. Went there 4/5 nights that I was there. It would be a disservice and injustice to miss out on such good food. Could not rave about it more. Every dish is absolutely spectacular. Especially the balsamic steak.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant. Staff, food, ambiance all incredible. My wife and I had dinner here two nights in a row, during a visit to Florence, in September. Was highly recommenby staff at Horto Convento and they were spot on. We are already planning our next visit to Italy, which will definitely include Trattoria dell'Orto.

Yelp
Wife and I headed over and had to get the steak florentine. We went for the 1 kilo along with side orders of roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables. When it came out, the portions were huge, but somehow we finished it all! One of the best steaks we've ever had. Cooked to perfection. Also need to give a shout out to our server Aurora. She was so helpful and patient, it just made the whole meal even better. We even had a chance to chat with the owner who was friendly as can be. You gotta go! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I believe this place will more or less require reservations. Please call ahead, you will not be upset that you did. If it is the same day, you might have some luck making the reservations earlier or later in the evening. I had some other local Florentine dishes but really wanted to try some steak Florentine. The prices felt very fair. The steak was exactly everything that I could have hoped for. I believe it was between rare and medium rare with the perfect amount of char and the simplicity that one would come to associate with Tuscan food. I have a smaller than average appetite, so I had only the steak and the bread that comes with the meal. I believe their pasta and other foods also seemed to be exceptional. The waitress, despite our laughable attempts at Italian, was incredibly helpful in helping us order just enough food and wine, so that we did not accidentally over-order. I think this was possibly my favorite food in Florence! Make a reservation!

Yelp
Amazing restaurant experience with my family at Trattoria dell Orto. Arturo was a great host and our server Francesco helped us to pick the best dishes for each of us. Being in Florence, i had to have the steak Florentine and it was even better than promised. The steak was impeccable as well as the pasta dishes that my family enjoyed. A+

Yelp
I cannot tell you the menu item I ordered here. I can tell you that it was a thick pasta made with artichokes, cream sauce, and speck. And it was, hands down, my favorite meal in Italy. I blame the house wine for this lapse in memory. But seriously, the food here was just plain delicious. Eons after I was full, I continued to trek on, desperate to finish this plate. It didn't happen, but I came close. This was a slow meal in a non-touristy area. We were recommended to come here by a local bartender and I can't thank him enough! What a wonderful spot.

Yelp
One of my friends who lived in Florence for a year recommended this place to me, and it was one of my favorite meals that I had in Italy. Located in Oltrarno in a less touristy area across the river, this place has a nice selection of traditional food from Florence (including bistecca and wild boar pappardelle, both are which are typical from the region) and it's all priced reasonably. The place is pretty large, so you shouldn't have a problem walking in without a reservation (at least while I was dining there on a weekday, I saw several parties walk in without a reservation). It's a casual place, but has a rustic vibe to it, and it's a nice place to spend an evening. I got the wild boar pappardelle and loved it - the sauce wasn't tomato-y at all, and I didn't find it salty. The meat was really tender and paired really well with the homemade, fresh pappardelle. I wish I had a few more days in Florence because I wanted to try their linguine with mussels or their pasta with black truffles. Next time! I also got a side salad which was huge - you could easily share this with 2-4 people. I was dining solo, so I ate most of this by myself because I wanted some vegetables. All in all, a great place to come for either lunch or dinner. I was able to make a dinner reservation earlier in the day when I walked by, but even if you don't have a reservation, it's worth trying to come here for a meal. I'll be back!

Yelp
Some of the most amazing food I've ever had was in Italy, but this place was the highlight of my trip. I ordered the risotto, ate it all, and ordered ANOTHER risotto because it was so good. Never in my life have I ordered more food after a main course in a restaurant, but I couldn't NOT. I even begged the owner to tell me how they make it, but I couldn't charm it out of her. Do not miss this restaurant when you're in Florence, and GET THE RISOTTO.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
We went there on one of our tour guide recommendations. Slightly off the touristy area but still pretty close to the center. We ordered the risotto and the steak for our entrees and a side of roasted potatoes. Got the house sparkling house wine to pair with the risotto per our waiter's recommendations. The food was amazing ! Savored every bite. We were pretty full after we finished everything but since we were so happy with the dinner we decided to also try their dessert, it was a though choice but opted for the tiramisu and the seasonal fig pie. Again amazing ! Both were light and just the right sweetness. If we were not too lazy we might have gone back for a second dinner there. I also have to note that we felt very welcome here and the staff was very friendly. If/when we come back to Florence his will most definitely be on our must do.

Yelp
We dined here before the COVID-19 outbreak. When we tell you everything is impeccable, we can't express that enough. The only thing better than our lunch was our dessert.

Yelp
Our server was awesome, finally great service! We got their large bottle of house wine in red, which was 1.5 liter for 12 euros. $16 for a magnum bottle of great tasting, easy drinking wine, only in Italy! Their bread basket came with four varieties, wheat, white, bread with dried smoked anchovies, and olive bread. I liked anchovies with their olive oil and balsamic. We started with two different salads, both were fresh. I got the Florentine steak at 4 euros per 100 grams. I got 700 grams at 28 euros which was 1.5 pounds of pure delicious t-bone steak. And yes, I finished it all! That was the night I earned the nickname Pancia. Maggie's risotto with zucchini flowers smothered in melted cheese was just as phenomenal. I think Kristin got the tagliatelle with a sharp cheese. I forget average food so I may have her pasta confused. Our tiramisu was soft and creamy. This Trattoria has a Tuscan style ambiance with outstanding service. We had great food and wine at fair prices. Everyone should have an Italy experience like this.

Yelp
Excellent food! When I'm Florence, you have to try a steak Florentine, right??!! The trattoria did an excellent job. High quality steak cooked perfectly. Kids had the gnocchi which was great. I had pasta bolognese which was more of a brown sauce than traditional red sauce but delicious. We had an excellent meal with good service. Very busy restaurant for a good reason!

Yelp
AMAZING! We went there for my parents anniversary and ate EVERYTHING. The prices were so reasonable and the food/wine was the best I've had in Italy. Going back again this weekend, have to bring my friends.

Yelp
Food was the best we had on our trip to Florence. Was recomend from a local and we were told if we wanted a more local taste and price go here and it was spot on. Great food and the cutout of the owner greating you is awesome, especially once you see him running around taking care of business.

Yelp
Holy cow! The food here is amazing. Every dish we had was delicious and packed with flavor. Definitely a must try!!

Yelp
Okay food. Condescending server who brought some plates in reasonable order and others after some plates had gotten cold. Patronized us when we complained.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place, especially for those tourists willing to experience the local culture. Trattoria dell'Orto has rustic furnishing, which makes it very welcoming. Food quality is high, while prices are very competitive. I'll surely get back sooner or later.

Yelp
Someone recommended this place to us. It was great. We had a waitress that was amazing and spoke great English. The food was amazing and reasonably priced! We went here for dinner 2 nights of our 3 nights in Florence. Worth it!!

Yelp
If you are an American tourist (like me), I highly recommend Trattoria dell'Orto! Tucked away in a less crowded neighborhood of Florence, this trattoria has competitive prices, friendly service, and absolutely delicious food. Their ribollita is the best I've eaten in Florence - warm, hearty, stick-to-your-ribs stew. The atmosphere is also incredibly cozy and gives you a sense of the local feel: there were a few Italian families and couples dining at the same time, and everybody seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. I will definitely return to Trattoria dell'Orto the next time I am in Florence!

Yelp
We stumbled across this restaurant 3 years ago while staying with a family friend around the corner. Hands down the best pasta we had our entire trip. I'm always recommending this restaurant to people traveling to the city.

Yelp
Authentic local food. This place is very authentic and is a good place to experience the local culture. We were recommended this place from our host in florence. The food and wine are both good. The layout of the interior was also very nice.

Yelp
CELIAC FRIENDLY. Had a lovely dinner just 2 doors down from our rented apartment. The menu is presented in Italian, French, and English, and the waiter knew enough English to answer questions for our order. As a celiac traveling in Italy, I find it very helpful to pull out my dining card that explains what I cannot eat, and everyone is helpful in recommending for or against items I may want to order (or buy at the market) to assure no gluten. My roast pork was delicious! There were several other menu items I could have chosen. I recommend this restaurant for those in this district looking for a nice gluten free dining experience. Note: the bread basket presented when you are seated is not free, as it is in the US. They charge 2euros each for the bread. You can refuse it when they try to bring it, if you can't eat it anyway.

Yelp
I'm taking this place off my bookmarked list. The food was overly salted and just didn't make the cut. To start, we ordered crostini Toscana and the tagliatelle al Tartufo. These are simple enough to prepare therefore they met the standard. We ordered the ossobuco casalinga and cinghiale(wild boar) served with polenta for secondi. Wow, what a disappointment. The wild boar was so salty that I just kind of poked at my food with my fork throughout the duration of the meal. The ossobuco was loaded with fat. It's like you were treasure hunting for the meat you can actually salvage. The service was very neglectful. The server was very short with us. It took about 35 minutes to get my crostini. The place was loaded with locals. It appeared to be a crowd most familiar with this place. Hey Kudos to the owner for establishing this kind of clientele. As I looked around though, the patrons seemed extremely older or extremely young. This told me that these people have been coming here because this is what works for them. Unfortunately for me my palate is spoiled and this was just cheap fare that may assist people on a budget to dine out. There are way better places to eat in the area.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to trattorias for a delicious but affordable dinner in Florence. It's in one of my favorite areas of town, just near piazza Tasso, though the specific street it's on can be a bit "deafeningly quiet" by night! The owners are super friendly, but not in that sleazy sort of way you often see in Florence's "pieno centro." Two of my favorite items on the menu are their potato-stuffed tortelli and their swordfish carpaccio. If in a big group, try to book the terrace outside--it's such a relaxing place to dine. One of the things i really love about this place, the mark of most good Italian restaurants, is that they WON'T let you "have it your way." I was there once with a few friends and a guy in the group--Tuscan born-and-bred--asked for parmesan cheese to add to his pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar pasta). The waiter politely but adamantly refused and told him he should know better. These days in the US you could probably file a lawsuit against a waiter who behaved that way, but in Florence, that mindset is the mark of a place that knows what it's doing and refuses to cater to touristy tastes.

Yelp
First dinning experience in italy and my wife and I should have saved this place for last because so far nothing else has compared to it...nothing fancy here but I'll take mom and pop style quality of food and true florentine authenticity over fancy atmosphere any day...the people that run the place rock and you can tell they spend all day preparing the food as it's truly legit.

Yelp
Great food. Supper quality. The owners are very nice. We have spent wonderful times in this restaurant.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Fun wait staff. Delicious food. Our favorite restaurant from our vacation to Rome and Florence.
