One of my friends who lived in Florence for a year recommended this place to me, and it was one of my favorite meals that I had in Italy. Located in Oltrarno in a less touristy area across the river, this place has a nice selection of traditional food from Florence (including bistecca and wild boar pappardelle, both are which are typical from the region) and it's all priced reasonably.
The place is pretty large, so you shouldn't have a problem walking in without a reservation (at least while I was dining there on a weekday, I saw several parties walk in without a reservation). It's a casual place, but has a rustic vibe to it, and it's a nice place to spend an evening.
I got the wild boar pappardelle and loved it - the sauce wasn't tomato-y at all, and I didn't find it salty. The meat was really tender and paired really well with the homemade, fresh pappardelle. I wish I had a few more days in Florence because I wanted to try their linguine with mussels or their pasta with black truffles. Next time!
I also got a side salad which was huge - you could easily share this with 2-4 people. I was dining solo, so I ate most of this by myself because I wanted some vegetables.
All in all, a great place to come for either lunch or dinner. I was able to make a dinner reservation earlier in the day when I walked by, but even if you don't have a reservation, it's worth trying to come here for a meal. I'll be back!
