Trattoria La Terrazza Southbroom

This has been my family’s usual spot for the last few years upon arrival in Southbroom for the December holidays. The food is admittedly consistent, and overall I’d say we have usually eaten well. Despite many of the pasta dishes being quite rich (many options having a cream based sauce), the fresh pasta itself is well-made. Our last visit we shared the focaccia and calamari as our starter - the calamari were exceptional, the focaccia adequate. As mains (all pasta based) were also quite good although my gnocchi were slightly tepid and my dad’s spaghettini quite overcooked. My biggest concern comes with the cleanliness of the restaurant - two of our 4 glasses were dirty (one with lipstick on the rim and the other with apparent sauce on the inside); cutlery also looked questionable too. Our waiter was friendly and eager despite his inexperience. We didn’t have dessert, however, judging by the neighbouring tables they looked delicious! I would recommend booking in December, as it could get busy, but note that R150 deposit per person is required.

One of my favorite spots on the South Coast - and a restaurant I always return to when I’m in the area. Consistently good service and a nice chilled atmosphere with a view over the lagoon. The Florentine T-bone and Malva Pudding is an absolute must order.

Disappointing. Last year we had 2 or 3 good meals here when on holiday but I remember the service not being the best. This year - service was worse - Had to chase another waiter down to get a glass for the wine (our waiter disappeared). Wine not poured once by the staff (I don’t think she even remembered we had ordered wine). Table not cleared timeously. Table next to us was just left and not cleared after the guests left. Very slow between courses. They need more staff and better training - the cafe we went to the day before for breakfast had more attentive staff than this expensive restaurant! Food was good. We had - Camembert starter (ok - on a sort of focaccia which was quite greasy), tuna dish - tasty, v nice prawn tails. Then fillet steak (ok but not amazing), salmon trout - good, calamari- v good, kudu burger - v good. And the cutlery!! Please just get some decent cutlery that doesn’t feel like you are eating at the school canteen! I’d probably go again for the food, but it could have been a much better experience.

Worst Italian food experience in a long time. Food was mediocre at best and way too expensive for what you got. Service was terrible. Waitress removed a plate whilst I was busy eating. Then goes on to openly complain about their tips and limited breaks etc. to the table next to us. Tried calling the restaurant 8 times day before followed by a whatsapp msg. Still no reply. To make a booking you need to pay a R150 deposit per person. Website still has an old menu loaded. Don't waste your time.

I should perhaps not comment. We did not eat here. But I want people to go. This is a gem. On other photos the food looked nice. We stopped by and I had a look around. It was empty, I do wish this would be because of the time of year/week/day. The most pretties place such a crazy CRAZY specual view (to me). The waiter who greeted me at the door was so friendly even after she knew I was still scouting the place. I think maybe it can be a bit expensive. Hope the menu pictures and view pictures might help. Please go!!!! Lol this place should be visited. Unfortunately I was out voted. But this is a lovely place. Romantic.

Food came separately, 3 plates about 6 min before the other 3 plates. Food was ok in terms of taste, definitely not great. The fly in the pasta dish, that the owner was alerted too was very disappointingly handled by her as she unapologetically shrugged her shoulders and dismissively told us "I don't know when it flew in, nothing I can do". A very disappointing night out, certainly wouldn't recommend.

Beautiful restaurant at an amazing location, next to a river and the beach. We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years (!) and the quality is still high and the menu is still very interesting. A long time ago we had a very unique desert here: licorice ice cream with lots of little bits, I still remember how good it was! My favorite of the current menu is their pavlova with a berry compote (desert), their spaghettini, prawns with Napolitano sauce is also amazing.

Went with my family for dinner. Pizza and pastas were excellent. Special mention for the gnocchi, which was outstanding. Rare to find homemade gnocchi nowadays. Food is really good. We had a new waitress, not that knowledgeable and a bit slow at times but otherwise tried hard. Outside is ideal if decent weather, else inside is charming.
