Well my yelper friends.
This is a special place for me. I used to come during my youth and this place hasn't changed since then.
Hidden just north of Riva del Garda (tip of the Lake of Garda), it might take a bit for you to spot it.
During my holidays to visit my parents, we decided to come back to enjoy a traditional meal from the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The ambience and decor of the establishment is totally traditional and "local ye olde worlde"- in a word, traditional to the area, scenic, cosy and timeless.
SERVICE: was friendly and fantastic! (They "couldn't do enough for us"!)
FOOD: Traditional, tasty and with generous portions. There was so much of everything and everything was delicious!
Courses just kept on coming! But for me, the greatest serving of all was the "starter". A round of two kinds of THE most delicious home made "carne salada" (salted dry meat).
Typical product of the Trentino, in particular in the Upper Garda, these pieces of meat ripened raw beef (various sizes) are placed in layers in steel containers with salt, bay leaves, pepper, juniper berries, crushed garlic and rosemary.
All is crushed and left to rest for at least two weeks.
It is eaten, preferably within 30 days from packaging. The "carne salada" was served thinly sliced raw seasoned with spices and cold pressed extra virgin non filtered olive oil and seasoned with a little vinegar. Along with the meat, we had a side dish of boiled beans dressed with a little olive oil and with a serving of pickled vegetables.
Courses of this deliciousness just kept on arriving! They make their own wine (carrafes of red and white just kept on coming to the table...).
This was, literally, ten meals rolled into one! Definitely a must if you are visiting the area.
Can't wait to come and eat again.
