This was the best meal we had on our trip to Italy! We ate the bolognese and gnocchi which were nothing less than excellent! We liked it so much that we ordered another dish of ravioli. The service at the place was amazing, the waiters were charming and helpful. Don't miss a visit to the restaurant and order the tiramisu for dessert!

A quaint local restaurant tucked away in the charming town of Ravello. This family run trattoria greets you with warmth and hospitality. If you want a genuine taste of Italian cuisine without the formal setting (and formal cost) this is a great restaurant to add to your list. We only tried the pasta but their other menu options looked so tasty as well. They even offered us a free dessert which made us feel taken care of and special 😊 The staff is friendly, the restaurant is cozy & rustic - usually busy as well (for the right reasons!)

We had a great experience at Trattoria Cumpa Cosimo. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a homely, family-style feel. The cuisine is typical of the region, offering authentic, homemade dishes. The appetizers were outstanding, especially the fried options and the parmigiana, which wasn’t even on the menu. The main courses were good but not exceptional, and the same goes for the desserts. The price was more than fair, especially considering the location and the time of year. Overall, a lovely meal in a charming setting!

I went there for a dinner. We ordered fish pizza and gnocchi. Food was good but tiramisu was so small and not special. Coffee came as a bit cold. The prices are very high for the portions.

I am so glad that we found this lovely restaurant! We were served by charming old lady that speaks great English and was so kind to gift us with salami and wonderful cheese. We ordered pasta Bolognese, Gnocchi and so good Sea food pasta! Also we got tiramisu as gift! Thank you for all great food!

Google
We had a great meal at Trattoria Cumpa Cosimo. We tried the gnocchi and the penne all'arrabbiata. Although the arrabbiata doesn't look like much, it was one of the most flavorful dishes I had throughout our trip. I would highly suggest coming here!

We stopped here on a whim and so glad we did. The food was simple but so fresh and flavorful. It has a family restaurant feel. We came back every night of our stay. On our last night the owner, Netta, brought us desserts until we couldn’t eat anymore! We normally don’t like tiramisu but we ate every last bite!! Loved all the food we had so much, absolutely delicious, the service was great and Netta was a true gem!!

This was recommended by the staff at Hotel Giordano. It most definitely did not disappoint. I am Italian and know outstanding Italian food when I eat it. I was served the most delicious and moist lamb chops that I ever had in my life. Their pasta is homemade. The seafood antipasto was fresh and so delicious. The staff was so accomadating. I wanted to go back and enjoy their steak, but time did not permit. What an experience. I will remember it always! Thank you all, and may God bless everyone at this restaurant. Mary Joette Gaudio

Yelp
Everything I ate during a recent trip to Italy was authentic. The experience at Cumpa Cosimo was capital "A" Authentic! We were on an Amalfi Coast day trip, our driver gave us a little over an hour to explore Ravello. That's not enough time. We took a quick look around the village and decided to get lunch. Cumpa Cosimo allowed us to feel like we experienced Ravello. The restaurant has a traditional vibe. The staff were knowledgeable and professional. The woman who seemed like the owner showed real care that we were enjoying ourselves. She also delivered complimentary meatballs and tiramisu. I knew I wanted to try the Monti Lattari cheese selection. It delivered in a big way! Different flavors and textures and each better than the last. The scottaditta was succulent, perfectly grilled lamb chops. My daughter's pasta dish was perfect, I simply had to finish it. Didn't want to disappoint the nice lady. Perfect meal, all of the plates were clean!

Yelp
Our driver recommended this place and the food was fresh and delicious. We were waiting to be seated and one of the Italian patrons urged us to simply sit. Once service started we were quickly served and all of the family members/servers participated. Mama ended the meal with an amazing tiramisu. I'd call this authentic and traditional Italian. Not fancy. The room was comfortable and bigger than it looks. No pizza on the menu so look elsewhere for that. The window said they'd take visa but then wanted cash. 4.5 stars And definitely worthy.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Mama was the sweetest to all of us, especially my children. Not to mention the cooking...so delicious! This place was recommended by my pasta maker since he's from the Amalfi area. Her spaghetti with meatballs, bolognese and veal scallopini was mouthwatering. Tiramisu was probably one of the best I've had. Will definitely come back here again!!!

Chris K.

Yelp
Wonderful authentic Italian experience! The owner makes her way to every table and makes you feel at home. Fantastic food and friendly service.

Joan D.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of eating there so many years ago!!! not to be missed it's a fabulous eating experience for sure. Was highly recommended to by the food editor Arthur schwartz.

Yelp
This one room dining establishment known officially as Cumpa Cosimo but simply called Nettie's by locals. Chef/owner Netta Bottone operates this legendary dining room that has been in her family for more than four generations. The interior walls are decorated with the many famous faces that have come by for dinner including Jackie Onassis and more recently Gore Vidal and Mariah Carey. Tables feature simple white or checkered tablecloths depending on the night with handpicked flowers and no salt or pepper to be scene, the chef considers it rude. Most evenings offer a straightforward menu of Italian specialties while other nights feature no menu at all, instead Nettie cooks-up whatever she feels like and almost all the time it's the best thing you'll ever taste Main courses vary between grilled fish, shrimp scampi and veal scaloppini to elaborate daily specials like homemade sausages and fillets cooked to order. An array of wood fired pizzas with extravagant toppings like Alba truffles and white cheese are also worthy of a trip to the restaurant on their own.

Robert W.

Yelp
Hands down the best homemade and authentic Italian food you'll eat. Sure, you might find food cooked by Michelin chefs at other restaurants along the Amalfi Coast, but don't attempt to compare those dishes to Mama's homemade meal and family experience, and there's a huge price difference between the two as well. Mama cooks food that is warm, inviting, and delicious. Each bite will have you craving more, and the best part is when you take some of the bread and clean your plate capturing all of its goodness. The house wine is really good and the desserts as well. Again, if you're trying to do a comparison of this restaurant against top restaurants with trained chefs, that's like telling g your mother she can't cook as good of food as Bobby Flay. You may taste the back of her hand after sharing those words! Do yourself a favor and visit this wonderful place. Ciao, Mama!

Nicole M.

Yelp
What a yummy meal! My husband had the Arrabbiata with meatballs and I had the baked macaroni. The meatballs were FANTASTIC - they were in the macaroni as well. We had the house local red which was a delicious wine! Our waiter also gave us a taste of a mushroom and ham calzone which was delicious! Finished it off with some lemon cake which I definitely recommend!

Dominic Y.

Yelp
Fantastic past place in Ravello. We started with tomatoes and mozzarella. Delicious! Their tomatoes were local and fresh grown, sweet and juicy. There were two types of mozzarella. I tried their pasta sampler, which was great. I highly recommend that choice if you want different and unique flavors of pastas. My friend had the baked macaroni, which was also very tasty. The owner, who everyone calls Nonna, interacts with all the guests. When she saw me dividing up the food with my friend, she walked over and started doing it for us. She also told the waiter to get us a salad because we needed greens! At the end of the meal, she brought out some tiramisu and then told me to pay with cash instead of a credit card. Sweet lady and good business owner!

Phil N.

Yelp
Your nonni works here Homestyle environment and homemade pasta. It's not really a seafood place. That stuff was a B Try the homemade cannoli, ravioli or gnocchi. Service is warm and homey

Hiba A.

Yelp
If I could I would give this place 3.5, their food while better than most Italian dishes I've eaten in the states and I'm from the east coast so we have great Italian was delicious. However, when compared to other Italian places we've ate at, it just was not as exciting. However, the place is so homey and the staff is so welcoming and attentive. The overall dinning experience is truly heightened.

Jill P.

Yelp
Food so good I cried. And Nata! A gem. I read the earlier review and I swear you must have been in a different restaurant if you weren't totally enchanted by this woman. The meatballs, sublime. All of it. Delicious. Top 10 meal of my life.

James K.

Yelp
We came for lunch while on the way up the coast to Naples. Not long after being seated, we were greeted by Mama. In addition to our orders, she sprinkled in extras as if we were family at her house. The food was delicious, hospitality memorable and memories forever. This is a great gem that we highly recommend to anyone else. We hope to return when not so short on time. I'm

Yelp
Great service, fabulous food!! We totally enjoyed the entire experience! Only wish we could go back for more!

Yelp
Best and most fun lunch during our day in Ravello. Cumpa Cosimo was recommended by our trip tour guide and the local guide who took us around Ravello. The restaurant and food were a wonderful experience. The service was exceptional and unique. We called her "mama"! Discovered it's a family business of many generations. Mama was what made our time there also fun. The food was delicious and wonderful! We ordered the fettuccine alla bolognese and the pasta pomodoro. My hubby and I split and shared each dish so that we could taste and enjoy both. Wow, phenomenal flavors, fresh and what you'd expect from a Italian grandma's kitchen. Both dishes were absolutely perfect. Mama was so generous and caring and funny. Since my hubby ate so quickly, she asked him if he wanted more pasta and she brought him more. She saw our friend eating bread after his food was gone and she offered him more meatballs! Then we were given tiramisu for dessert. It was so light and fluffy--each bite delightful. Found out Mama is the owner and the restaurant has been in her family for generations. This experience was fantastic and we wish we could go back over and over. The locals of Ravello are so fortunate to have this restaurant in their amazing little town!! It's a treasure of a place!!!

Pamela K.

Yelp
A lovely experience; Mamma Netta is a lovely host. The ham and cheese crepolini was an unexpected treat. Not a typical crepe presentation; cheese was the star. The caprese salad was so fresh, a delightful starter. And the desserts were not to be skipped! Tiramisu delicious.

Derek M.

Yelp
The food was ok but the portions were very small. The waiters were very rude and non responsive. They overcharged and made us pay cash even though on the front door it says they accept visa and Amex. Be aware of the older lady who walks around and wants cash. She overcharged as well. DON'T fall for this place. The place was very dark as well with NO VIEWS!

Russell K.

Yelp
Was recommended this local restaurant by a taxi driver and we are so thankful! We were really hungry for some fish soup, and this place had the best! It was a meal for two people. So delicious. Very generous portions. Authentic Italian food. Great staff. Plus it was my birthday, and they had an incredible candle and cake, on the house.

Jessyca O.

Yelp
You absolutely have to get the tiramisu, it's light and fluffy but so rich in flavor. I love the environment. Family ran. The food is fantastic. I got the gnocchi, after starting off with a charcuterie plate, top it off with a bottle of Chianti, perfection! This is a MUST!!

Jessica G.

Yelp
Amazing food, and even more amazing hospitality. Special thanks to Netta! She's the Nona I always wanted! She kept bringing us food and I couldn't have loved her more! We will definitely be returning during our short stay in Ravello! The pizzas and pastas are all delicious.

Sam O.

Yelp
Delicious Gelato in a quaint, beautiful, coastal cliff city. Ravello is a 5-star town on its own, worth the visit and a walk around the streets with Gelato in your hand.

Jackie R.

Yelp
So far this is the best food I've had in Italy! Which is saying a lot since it's hard to find bad food anywhere. We started off with the caprese which was to die for. The tomatoes here are like nothing I've ever tasted and I've grown my own before. And don't get me started with the rich olive oil here ! I decided to have the raviolis for dinner. The sauce was perfect not over salted or too acidic. My fiancé had the steak and fries and was very happy with the simple flavors of garlic and herbs cooked with it. The owner is very kind and obviously knows how to run a business. She is very interactive with the costumers and makes sure you are happy with the food. Also pro tip : pay in cash! We will be back before our trip is over.

Alvin Y.

Yelp
There were 7 of us on a Wednesday afternoon. We ordered cannoli, ravioli, bolagnese spaghetti and I had the lasagna The cannoli was great. Ravioli was good. Bolagnese was slightly salty. Spaghetti was good. The lasagna was good. They bought us a free tiramisu. The restaurant has a home feel to it. The service was fast and everyone came by the table to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a good solid meal. Nothing spectacular but I would come here again.

Mark F.

Yelp
It's ok. It definitely caters to tourist but I did see some locals there too. In Ravello it's one of the better deals and they aren't so focused on ripping off the cliente. Nonna will come around and check on you so that's a plus.

Alan C.

Yelp
We came here for lunch while we were in Ravello for the day and we had heard they had the best local and most traditional Italian cuisine in town. We got a pasta sampler (recommended by our server) and the fava soup to share between two people and it exceeded our expectations to say the least. The pasta sampler had 4 different pastas but much smaller portions to allow you to try what they have to offer, perfect for someone like me who isn't sure what to order. The fava bean soup was tasty and not overbearing and very flavorful, perfect for us who weren't that hungry to begin with. Later on in the day we were decided to cancel our reservation at Rossellini and came here again for dinner. We ordered a mussel starter, a vegetable starter, the roasted rabbit, and the pasta special of the day. The vegetable starter was ok, nothing special. It had beans, artichoke, cooked spinach, lettuce, raw tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and some other cooked vegetables. I was shocked by how much this starter was, 20 or so euros! Totally wasn't worth it. The mussels were very fresh and had a fairly salty sauce at the bottom which I didn't dare to delve into so we just ate the mussels. The rabbit was ok as well, nothing too special. Honestly just reminded me of chicken and actually lacked flavor. It was in a tomato based sauce and it almost seemed like they cooked the rabbit without the tomato sauce and just poured it over later. The highlight was their pasta - it had sausages and mushroom and was delicious. I highly recommend to just focus on their pastas in the future. They also had a good selection of local wines to chose from and I really enjoyed the House red wine. Overall, very affordable place for lunch and dinner with the homemade cooking feel of an Italian trattoria.

Christian C.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place looking for an ATM. When we passed it the atmosphere was captivating! Their bolognese was soooo delicious that I was using the house bread to scrape the bottom of the plate. The gracious and highly observant owner notice my lingering desire and gave me an extra helping!!! Best meatballs I've ever tasted! This place will leave you full and smiling! 10/10!

Matthias P.

Yelp
This was the highlight dining experience of our entire trip that included Venice, Como, Florence, and Tuscany before we came to Ravello. Absolutely fantastic pasta and food with a family that cares about what they do. The fettuccine bolognese was phenomenal and the pasta sampler was great as well. Don't miss out on this spot and make sure to have a reservation.

Donald B.

Yelp
Great place for a group especially when it's too cold outside to sit the majority of tables are 4-tops but there is a larger table for 12. The food was outstanding and the staff were extremely attentive and accommodating they were flexible with the menu. The restaurant was exactly what I had expected an Italian restaurant to be, the owners on the floor interacting with guests and also in the kitchen cooking.

Renae J.

Yelp
Very disappointing . Food is served cold . Owner explains that they have other tables to serve and they cannot help if food comes to table cold .

Angie H.

Yelp
We love our lunch meal! So cozy and food made with love! Natta made us feel so welcome! Exactly the time of meal we had hoped for while visiting Ravello. We were staying at a very nice resort with a Michelin restaurant and our meal here took the cake in memories made and authenticity.

Susan C.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place a three star because the comfort food we ordered was good but I was so taken by surprise by the elderly women who took our bill and payment that I just had to yelp about it. Warning: Beware the mama waiter will take you shamelessly. First of all the hotel staff. In Positano recommended this small restaurant in Ravello to us. We thought, let's give it a try for lunch. Upon being seated it was fairly slow. Until the group tours hit! Two large groups came in about 12:30 today and quickly took over much of the restaurant. Our food was served, however in a timely manner. I ordered the minestrone soup €6 and my husband the lasagna, €8. Just water to drink. So the bill added up to €14. So when we finally received the bill and the women came around to collect my husband tried to pay with a credit card. She said cash only and abruptly said their credit card machine was broken. My hubby got out a €20 to pay and she said thank you. goodbye and just left with NO change whatsoever ever. We were so taken aback. And taken. We hear you are supposed to round up but we thought that meant maybe €17? If anyone knows differently please help. But their are too many places to eat in Ravello that won't intimidate you. No go for this family restaurant. Stay away from mama:(

Robin C.

Yelp
We almost missed this place waking by while we wandered Ravello because it was just opening. So glad we stopped in. Had the local wine and ravioli. This place has been in the family for generations, and mama (I wish I knew her name), came out to sneak us some meatballs. The plate of ravioli was generous and I couldn't finish and she worried so brought us the most amazing lemon cake that was the best I've ever had. If you are in Ravello, do not miss this family restaurant with fresh and delicious food, good wine and cozy atmosphere.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, friendly staff, everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious. Would recommend on your visit to Ravello.

Parker M.

Yelp
Not too hard to find from the main square of Ravello. Nice place inside, and was empty around 6:30 pm when we went. The service was solid and everything went quick. Here's a quick breakdown of food: -Free tomatoes in oil and vinegar: delicious -Free bread: dry and rough -Pasta sampler: only the cannoli was great. Others just ok It was odd having the owner look at what we ordered and calculating a price on her head. But it was practically the same to what the menu listed. Will be a bit expensive if you don't LOVE what you get.

Kim E.

Yelp
Our tour guide recommended this restaurant to us for lunch while were were exploring Ravello. He had said that it was "Mama's" restaurant and we had to try it for an authentic experience. It was overall inexpensive and the food was delicious. There were three of us and we ordered a caprese salad to start and the pasta sampler (5 different homemade pastas). It was absolutely delicious. My favorite part was the middle baked cheese/crab swirls that were to die for, but all five of the pastas were very tasty. When we had finished the plate, the server, who was "Mama's" son, brought us out an additional plate with extra samplings of the pastas. Mama's brother also came up to our table and chatted with us towards the end of our meal. It was a solid meal and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a classic spot in Ravello.

Evan R.

Yelp
Cumpa Cosima is a solid restaurant in Ravello. If you are looking for to a fine dining experience, you may want to look elsewhere, but, if you are looking for an authentic experience, this is the place to go. On our trips to Ravello, we always look forward to visiting with "Mama". My suggestion is to get seated and then not even look at the menu. Ask for "Mama" to bring you her best dishes for the day. If you're lucky, she'll bring you a salad made with greens fresh from her garden. Receiving the bill here is a bit different...."Mama" will come to the table and jot down what you had and somehow come up with a price. We've always felt that our bills have been fair and reasonable, but you should be prepared for the unorthodox experience.

John P.

Yelp
been there over a 20 year period and the food and service and GrandMa were all fantastic.. it hasn't changed a bit over the years .. Mama even remember my son from when he was there 10 year earlier and outstanding resturant... Highly recomened

Lindsey O.

Yelp
Okay so I loved so many restaurants on this trip but most were because of how beautiful the views were. Like 5 star views and ambiance but realistically 4s on food. Cumpa Cosimo was the exception - the atmosphere is whatever, the food is an absolute knockout. This was my best meal food wise in all of the Amalfi coast. Danilo is one of the owners and he totally hooked my mom and I up. We didn't order, he just brought us out dish after dish and every one was incredible. The first thing he brought us was the zucchini flower and it was melt in your mouth perfect. SOOOO good. I wish I could mention more dishes but this was 1.5 years ago. That said the food was such a standout that I remember it enough to give this place a solid 5! Absolutely go if you're in Ravello.

Tim B.

Yelp
Best pasta I've ever had in my life I would come back to Italy just for this pasta. Had the fettuccine with meat sauce the best noodles good sauce. owner gave free desert and oranges from her garden.

Romeo Q.

Yelp
Dinner here made our stay in Ravello truly special. The food is delicious, especially the homemade pasta and different sauces. One night, our family of four started with the charcuterie and then the fettuccini with porcini mushroom sauce, sea bass, roasted chicken, and entrecôte, accompanied by a local Tramonti white wine, and a half order each of the tiramisu and lemon cake. Best meal during our visit to Ravello! We had such a great night, we came back again, ordering the hors d'oeurve appetizer (an assortment of veggies) and the fettuccini bolognese. So good! But come here with kids (our boys are 13 and 14), and you're in for a treat! The nonna comes around the tables and gives the kids extra special treatment. She checked on them several times to make sure they were eating, brought out some complimentary extras, and ended our dinner with fresh watermelon and more of the tiramisu. Come here, especially with kids, and have a fabulous night.

Chalene B.

Yelp
Recommendation from our hotel, Villa Piedimonte, and it exceeded our expectations. We had a sampling of appetizers and then a sampling of five pasta dishes, all of which were fantastic! The mom (grandma) and son duo were engaging and entertaining. The res wine recommendation was amazing and the owners kept it flowing. Spent €60 for the best dinner in Italy Go- don't hesitate; just go. You'll be so glad you did!!!

Joanna M.

Yelp
Just had lunch here today, after visiting Villa Cimbrone. Fantastic family run restaurant. The staff were very friendly, and the food was fresh and delicious. I had penne all'arrabiata and my husband had linguine bolognese. Also I've spent two weeks trying to find alici marinati and I finally found them here. They came with olive oil, lemon slices, and fresh tomatoes. Best alici I've ever had. They even served us quickly so we could catch our ferry (poor planning on our part, I would have liked to try more dishes here). I would definitely return!

Joseph W.

Yelp
Go here. You'll feel like family while you enjoy a small authentic menu of traditional selections. There was a line outside but only took us about 20 minutes to get in.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Stopped in here solely because it had the most reviews. It was solid but you get spoiled in Italy because every place is so wonderful. House red wine was nice and dry. Salad was literally just lettuce with olive oil and vinaigrette on it. Nothing else. Finally my fettuccine with Bolognese sauce was solid but again, I definitely expect more when in Italy. The noodles were not al dente as typical. The sauce was good. Not a bad place to stop in, but probably better food in the area.

James P.

Yelp
Highly recommend Cumpa. Had two outstanding entree s and a bottle of wine for 59 euros. Seems crazy for ravello but it is 4th generation owned and recommended by the locals. Best gnocchi i have had on three continents. Will be going back tomorrow.

Molly F.

Yelp
We loved this place! My husband and I both really enjoyed our pasta. The service was kind and attentive.

Selena Y.

Yelp
Food was good but as others have mentioned, make sure you check your bill!! "Mama" does all the calculating in her head and she wanted to charge us €10 more for our meal. Granted, the food was tasty and we received a complimentary spinach pastry side dish and a tiramisu dessert, but still...not cool. Based on other yelp reviews, it looks like we weren't the only ones with this problem!

Jess D.

Yelp
I got awful food poisoning from this place. Nothing tasted right and the food was not at all fresh. The service was ridiculously disorganized and like the reviews say, Mama tries to rip you off at the end by quoting you a total price that's more than what was written on the menu (our bill should have been 32 euro and she asked for 36 euro). Then they give you this terrible "complimentary" dessert which you really pay for if you think about it because she just tacks it on to the bill. STAY AWAY. Mama is crazy and so is anyone who gave this place more than 1 star.

Tina F.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a shop owner we talked to. They were very kind because their hours were not listed so we were unsure if they were open. No reservation on a Sunday night. The sampler anti pasta was excellent. The house white was light and refreshing. The house special was a five pasta dish which was amazing. The ham crepes were on it and they were out of this world. We also had the lemon cake it was a very small slice but it also was delicious.
