Dining at Trattoria Vecchia Roma was a delightful journey through Roman classics, blending tradition with rich, authentic flavors. I started with the meatballs in tomato sauce, which were perfectly tender and soaked in a comforting, rich sauce. The bruschetta with artichoke cream added a unique twist--creamy and earthy, with the bread toasted just enough to provide a satisfying crunch.
Moving on to the pastas, the bucatini all'amatriciana had a smoky undertone that elevated the tangy tomato and guanciale--a real showstopper! The spaghetti alla carbonara with truffles was equally delightful, combining the earthy truffle aroma with a creamy, cheesy sauce that was simply irresistible.
For the mains, the cutlet topped with ham, tomato sauce, mushrooms, and mozzarella was rustic and satisfying, with a crust that was both chewy and crisp. The oxtail in tomato sauce, slow-cooked to perfection, melted in my mouth, embodying the essence of Roman comfort food. For dessert, I had the chocolate soufflé, which was more like a lava cake and frankly not very impressive. I could have skipped it.
The food overall was hearty--comfort food that fills you up, though at times it could be a bit heavy. A touch more finesse in balancing the richness would make it even more enjoyable. The generous portions ensure you won't leave hungry, and the prices are fair, making it a great value for the amount of food you receive.
Each dish delivered on taste and texture, making Trattoria Vecchia Roma a great spot for traditional Roman fare, served in a bustling, warm setting. While the food is very good, it is also quite a touristy place, so reservations are a must if you want to avoid a long wait. The service is extremely fast--almost rushed--and the atmosphere can be quite noisy. Despite these minor drawbacks, the experience is well worth it for anyone looking to savor authentic Roman flavors.
