Travel Town Railroad

This is a great place to spend an afternoon with your toddler. Lots of activities, from visiting old engines to riding their miniature train, playing in the covered kids area or admiring the model train set. Plenty of shade (so perfect for picnics) and dog friendly. Many of people hiring tables for birthday parties. Just bring your own trains so you don’t have to buy overpriced toy engines and the gift shop.

We visited Travel Town Railroad Museum on a Sunday afternoon and our toddler really enjoyed it. There was plenty of free parking, and admission is completely free. It’s a great spot for kids , they can see and explore real trains up close. There are several train exhibits, and a fun train ride that lasts about 15–20 minutes for just $4 per person. There’s also a picnic area with benches, which is perfect for a quick break. The museum is open until 5 PM. Overall, it’s a fun place to take the kids.

Travel Town Railroad is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves trains. The outdoor museum is easy to stroll through, with a wide variety of historic steam locomotives, railcars, and vintage equipment on display. You can walk right up to many of the engines and really appreciate their size and craftsmanship. It’s a relaxing place to explore at your own pace, and great for both kids and adults. If you’re a train enthusiast—or just enjoy a unique and peaceful outing—Travel Town is definitely worth a visit.

Great place for kids to see trains. It was a cool train yard and had a cute train ride around the yard. I would say it's good for kids 2 to 14 but older kids might not be so excited. My son was excited but he's 13.

We had a fun train ride for $4 per adult, and kids under 2 were free. I loved that they did two rounds of the ride, and the museum was cool to check out. My only complaint is that some staff weren't very friendly to visitors, I mean a simple 'you're welcome' or even a smile would make a big difference

The idea is great and the place was very nice, totally kids/family friendly. However, we had an unpleasant situation, with signing contract and explanation on the time PAID, with 3 different people coming inside while we were trying to set up a birthday tables, presents, balloons, etc. They do not give any extra time for prep and you have to do everything so quickly in order to meet your guest on time. Interrupting was for total if 15 min.. We were 5 minutes late with the cleaning after the party and it cost us $50!!! It's totally wrong - if they give time and we prepaid it - do not come in with different papers, requesting signatures, and do not send different people who come in to tell you the rules. It all had to be done BEFORE paid time.

For being FREE to the public and having cool exhibitions of old rail cars and getting to know the history is AWESOME! But taking a ride in a mini train with your family creating great memories PRICELESS! Also, don't forget to stop by the gift shop and buy something refreshing or yummy and support this amazing place! AMAZING place for the kids and the whole family!

Travel Town is a totally terrific time for train enthusiasts to take in or even just travelers who would like to take a peak into the past of how other travelers used to travel.

Been meaning to bring the kids here for a while! We came during the summer and tried to find a parking spot with shade but of course, most of them were taken. Other than that, the parking is easy. Once you enter, you're free to check out the trains there. Other than the trains, a gift shop, and a museum, there was a train that goes around the park. You can purchase your tickets and hop on a ride. I can't tell how many rounds you go because the previous conductor went around 4 times before allowing the next group to board and we only got to go around 2 times. In the museum, they have a small railroad track set up for the kids but they will need to bring their own train/train set to play. Will make sure to bring one for the kids next time when we come backs. We didn't spend a whole lot of time there but we did see people hosting birthday parties and having picnics so it's a nice place to just unwind and chill.

It's so amazing that they preserve the history of steam engines. This is a small exhibit but well worth it. They show a variety of trains. You can even go inside some of them to get an idea of what it's like to ride one of them. It literally transform you into another era almost and makes you feel like you're in Thomas the Tank Engine set. You can pay $8 to ride the small train if you want. The thing is they close at 5pm so get there early. I think kids will love it and they even have a play area for them. The part of this is it is free but they will take donations.

Review #1038~ Oh Pink Train, please don't play hide and seek with me. But I showed up for that display, so it had to have been set at a different spot than other trains. Here's more to the mystery: I showed up here for in search of the missing pink train display? And can't find the entrance to hop on board the train ride. But I'll admit I was in a rush because I was trying to fit two museum visits in 1 afternoon of a LA Museum Day Trip on a taco Tuesday, 12/17/24. Gotta visit on a non rushed day. Great spot. I grew up getting to ride the train maybe once a year in the town of Loveland, Colorado. Fond memories. My kid rides this train too much, and I'm fine with it. We love it here. We've ridden this train for years. Make sure to bring a train with you to play with or grab one from the gift shop here because you will be here for a while. I'm happy the price is still great and there are plenty of things to keep busy with here. We are lucky to have 3 trains for riding here in griffith park and we still ride all three too much. If you're lucky - You'll see the couple of resident cats here. If any sort of apocalypse happens - I'm coming here for the old vehichles to try to ride them up the mountain. Hopefully I never live out that fantasy. Thank you.

When our grandchildren were younger, Travel Town was a favorite place to take them. Besides all of the railroad goodies, they loved taking rides on this 16″ gauge miniature train. Great value at $3-4 per ticket. Full disclosure, I looked forward to it and memories of similar train rides when I was a kid.

For kids of all ages, this train ride and exhibits will always entertain even the oldest of enthusiasts. Apparently, Walt Disney had some great times building the scaled down trains. Try and get the front for some nice views or the back just to relax, even for the moment. I remember bringing my kids here over 30 years ago...

A wonderful place to visit for walks with children. It's beautiful, unique, filled with history, and very interesting. You can learn a lot of new things and even take a train ride. It's a place you'll enjoy returning to again and again. Highly recommend.

very cute. they have a play area where kids can play on the train table provided. Bring your own train as one is not provided. I spent $18 buying one from the gift shop.
