How I Travel: The One Phrase Josh Gad Doesn’t Allow on Vacation

"Then we went to this incredible lodge outside of Darwin that was as close to Crocodile Dundee as you can get. You're surrounded by wildlife, to the point that the rooms are actually elevated by quite a few feet because of snakes and crocodiles."

Really clean and well organised. The pool area was well maintained and the buffet breakfast was simple but yum. Bed was comfortable and house keeping was good. Decent size rooms. Well worth the price ||One issue was that the air con in the rooms was lacklustre across the resort (stayed with friends who said the same). Another issue was that our bathroom door didn’t lock but when I told staff at checkout they said they’d send some one up. No one else had this problem.

Have stayed here on multiple occasions but this will be my last. Room was absolutely infested with cockroaches (in excess of 50 of various sizes and type) which ended up all throughout my luggage. I only realised the infestation after waking up for the red-eye flight at 10pm (having only checked into the room 4 hours prior) and seeing them all scurrying around the floor, walls and on my bags 🤢. Raised the issue with staff who apologised but didn’t seem too fussed. Only response was that “housekeeping will deal with it”. Carpets also smelled damp and mouldy throughout the hotel.

TLDR: A budget accommodation offering the bare minimum, just scraping by. Booking Process: Booked online through a third-party site. The process was smooth with no issues. Location: Centrally located in the CBD, within walking distance of most places. Very convenient. Check-in Process: Smooth and straightforward. However, it involved the usual unnecessary form-filling with personal details that should already have been available from the booking information. The Room: A two-story townhouse showing significant wear and tear. Odd stains were visible in places, and some bathroom fixtures were falling off the walls. The amenities provided were extremely basic: three glasses, three wine glasses, four plates, and a tiny kettle—nothing beyond the absolute essentials. Missing items included a dishwasher, detergent for the washing machine, salt, proper pots, a broom, or a vacuum cleaner. Most items appeared to be the cheapest possible versions. There was also a notable buildup of dirt on many horizontal surfaces, seemingly left undusted for years. Room Service: Very minimal. It mainly focused on making the beds daily while neglecting tasks like vacuuming or sweeping, even after polite notes requesting specific attention. Hotel Grounds: The property appeared poorly maintained, with noticeable cleaning and upkeep issues. It seems the hotel has not been well cared for in recent years. Overall: This is just about adequate as a budget accommodation for longer stays. While it may meet the needs of those looking for the bare minimum, we are unlikely to stay here again. It might still be suitable for individuals with minimal expectations who only need basic amenities.

Wouldn't recommend staying here to anybody, absolutely the worst experience i have ever had and have stayed in a lot of places in Darwin and this is the worst place ever!! Stayed here many years ago when was called Mirambeena and was up their as one of the best places to stay in Darwin. NOT ANYMORE, Staff so rude and not very accommodating.

Big room space with many marks on carpet, average breakfast with not many options, fantastic for very short stay but after 3 days it gets sick to see and eat the same, staff very friendly and courteous, no restaurant service except for breakfast, gym with unpleasant small, outdoor spa never worked and no BBQ area when it is promoted or included on the facilities advertising. Big resort but notice that not high demand and hard to keep it a very high standard.

We spent an horrible night in the hotel. ||We were awakened by screams at 2am. At first we thought it was coming from the street, so we tried to go back to sleep. But it didn't stop! While it was on the street we even wanted to call the police. Finally, after a while, it calmed down. Then, at 3:30 am, the screaming started up again, and we got up. In fact, the screaming was coming from the room below, on the 3rd floor. The person was yealing, throwing objects from the room out of the window, banging against the metal staircase with objects... it was horrible. So we called the reception because it had been going on since 2am... in short, a night of chaos, we didn't sleep at all. ||When we went down at 9:15 after having slept only 4 hours, to try to enjoy the breakfast we payed for, we were told "uh it's closed soon but try anyway", the same thing once we arrived at the breakfast ... how to tell them that we had not slept all night??.. and that no information had been given to us on the time of the breakfast ... we had searched the day before and a site says 9:30 another says 10h ... ||||Then we went to reception to ask if they knew what had happened that night and to our room. ||Reception didn't even know we'd called during the night and hadn't slept... apparently the night receptionist hadn't told them. ||In short, nothing special was set up, we already paid for a late checkout until 1pm and we were allowed to stay there until 2pm... no refund, or extra night offered or anything, when clearly the hotel didn't meet what you book a hotel for: sleep.
