I’ve lived in the community almost 45 years We’ve never had a bicycle shop better than this bike shop. Ozzie is the best guy in the neighborhood. the guys at the shop are the best employees that work at the Bike shop very kind man and caring. I really sincerely appreciate them when I need help with my bike. They’re always very willing and able to assist Me with any problems that I have with my bicycle I really appreciate you guys hope 2026 is a good year for you guys. You guys are the best bike shop in Inwood. Thanks for always being there for the community. We really appreciate u guys!!!!!

Great experience! Ozzie took terrific care of me. I had a bike shipped from Florida in pieces and he and his team reassembled it perfectly. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. Excellent communication. I highly recommend Tread.

This is my favorite bicycle shop. There’s a great bunch of people working here, no stuffy attitudes or judgments about your ride, the mechanics are all talented and know what they’re doing and have always been ready to answer a question and/or offer advice to me. I just had a vintage wheel threaded with a vintage hub and everything looks & feels to be a well done job. I believe their price rates are very fair.

Tread is a fantastic local bike shop. I do most of my own maintenance, but even I need pro service help sometimes, and they do a great job. The selection of bike accessories is really great. If you need anything bike related they are the place in Northern Manhattan

Love this place and I go out of my way to get my maintenance done here even after moving out of the neighborhood to the Bronx. Everyone is really friendly and knowledgeable. They have an excellent location with great stock and they're right off the bike trails

Love this bike shop! The guys who work here know what they’re doing, and always get things done fast. They don’t overcharge or try to sell you stuff you don’t need. The only place I bring my kids bikes to.

This store was recommended when I searched "bike rentals in Bronx", but they do not in fact rent out bikes. It's so rare for shops to do rentals these days, especially with those crappy bikeshares becoming so popular. It sucks because we don't have room in our apartment to store 3 bikes, & our building doesn't provide storage space, (even for a fee). I just want to be able to ride a bike through the daggone park; it's disappointing that it feels damn near impossible! This is no reflection of Tread Bike Shop's service, but I couldn't leave a review without giving it a star-rating. Just wanted to let anyone else looking for a bike rental know that this place doesn't offer it.

I started to use Tread in the 2nd half of 2022. I gave up my car, and they are the closest shop to where I live in Riverdale. They haven't steered me wrong yet. They have done major upgrades to my bikes, including one I purchased from them and one I purchased elsewhere when I had a car. They don't hesitate to tell me that I need to take my Trek back to a Trek shop when the issue is not something they are able to handle due to parts being specific to Trek. They also don't try to sell me stuff I don't need. They only think I wish is that they were a Trek dealer besides Specialized, Cannondale, Jamis, Fuji.

Recently purchased a new road bike from this shop. They had exactly what I was looking for. I am new to road biking and the staff talked me through a few options until I found the right fit. Price was right and I was satisfied with my purchase. A couple weeks later they honored the free tune up after some of the cables got a little stretched from initial use. 10/10! Thank you Tread Bike Shop for helping add biking to my fitness journey!

Terrible experience! Reserved a Se blocks Flyer On their website. Received confirmation email that it was all ready to pick up. Paid $17 for GWB + gas. Went in to pick up and they said "unfortunately we don't have it in stock" . Is that not the whole point of the reservation? The girl at the counter said her manager sent me an email to let me know their stock issue. I checked and I never ever received that email, must be their excuse to try and save themselves. Only emails I got were 'ready for pick up'.

Awesome place. If I move back to NYC, this would definitely be my go to bike shop. Love the extensive gear selection. Excellent service! Ozzie is great!

I live in Riverdale and have been a loyal and happy customer at Tread for about 15 years, ever since I bought my wonderful Jamis touring bike from them. Ozzie and his team have always been incredibly helpful and highly competent in taking care of my bike and all my biking needs, from regular service to packing it up to ship for a weeklong ride in the Carolinas. I trust Ozzie with any questions that come up and he provides great advice and is honest and fair in his business. Just had the pleasure of buying my wife a bike for our anniversary- and with Ozzie and his team's help, it was a very pleasant and easy experience.

Really nice guys and they can usually get mechanical work done quickly. It's a small shop so not a big selection, but they'll order stuff for you too.

This is a much delayed review, but also just in time for those who take their bikes for an annual tune-up to their local bike shop. I wish I had positive things to say about this bike shop, but unfortunately, after the several encounters I have had with this business, I would NOT recommend this bike shop to anyone. The employees are super pretentious and rude to their customers. Not only are they tactless and uppity towards their customers, but they also price gouge. I was told that for a "full" tune-up, the entire bike would be taken apart (which I was also surprised to hear) and cleaned. Cool, I am on board if that is something you are offering. Upon pickup, I came to find out that they actually don't do that... there isn't much of a distinction between a "regular" tune-up and the "full" tune-up except for the price (I think a $30-50 price difference, if I can recall). Not only did they not provide a service they had sold me on initially, but they also took off irreplaceable stickers (which were nostalgic to me) while cleaning the frame. When I tried to address this discrepancy with the shop employees and the ruining of the stickers on my bike's frame, I was only treated as if I was absolutely dumb and spoken down to like I was a child. The prices also aren't listed ANYWHERE in the store, and if you ask for clarity on the prices of their services, there is so much ambiguity because "prices fluctuate." Great, if that is the case, maybe offer your customers a bit more transparency and post them either on your website, on a price list in the shop, or maybe a brochure for customers to reference so everyone can be on the same page. I honestly hate coming into this bike shop. We get it - you work in a bike shop, you're uber cool. But treat all your customers with respect and be more transparent with your services and their respective prices if you want to keep a loyal following of customers.

I have been going to Tread for years but had an especially great visit yesterday. Give a woman a fish, she fishes for a day. Teach her to fish...it was time...time to learn how to change a flat tire. Ramaul was so nice--we sat outside and he patiently taught me how to do it, including watching me return the demonstration. Thanks Ramaul ! Steph at front desk is a master at customer service. And of course, the mechanic in the back--sorry, I don't know his name, he always takes my bike pretty quickly and gives me an expert repair.

We live in North Riverdale and when it came time for a new bike for my 15 year old, Tread Bicycle was my first choice. This will be the third bike I've bought and always a pleasure to chat with the owner who always shares a good story or bit of advice. On arrival we were met by Danny who was quick to introduce himself and process what specifically we needed. As we needed a short reach on the handle bars Danny had to search the stock room and didn't disappoint! My son got to test ride it in the parking lot next to the store and Danny patiently explained how to use the gears. The seat needed to be shortened a little so the end was sawn off at no extra charge and a few necessary accessories were added such as a back light, lock and water bottle holder. Overall, great service from Danny who was easy to work with and really helped us choose the perfect bike. Cheers, Neil & Oscar.

This shop offers a $40 service that includes lubricating the chain, adjusting the gears, and checking the bike. My friend just left there and all they did was spray some third rate oil on her rusty old chain. They didn't even clean the chain before lubricating it. And they told her they couldn't raise the seat because the seat post was too short so they didn't even offer to fit the bike right. For $40 they should've thrown in a cheap seat post. I ride a Specialized S Works Tarmac and my local shop on the upper east side adjusts my gears, will change a cable if necessary, and lubricate my chain for $20. These thieves just took advantage of someone because they were inexperienced and female. Shame on you.

Was recommended by another bike shop manager who's shop is far my place for a quick back cassette installation (had my own cassette). Great shop forgot the mechanic's name (Miguel- i believe) did the job in 10 mins. The price of installation was good and overall I left as a happy customer. I like to support local bike shops as more and more business is going online. With competitive prices, I believe this shop is doing a good job!

This is my favorite bike shop in the entire city. The staff is courteous, well-informed, just a great bike shop from purchase to accessories to repairs and always on top of the latest in cycling and gear. Sadly, so many people know about it. Jk. The mighty long line during coronavirus the last week of May is indicative of the places reputation. BTWI live waaaay across town several bike shops away.

Great customer service. I've gone here about 3 times since COVID started to add the final touches to a bike I refurbished from my basement and each time has been a pleasure. The prices are reasonable and the work is done on the spot or you have the option for them to call you when your bike is done.

I traveled from nj to get service from someone who doesn't care about the passion or people and just put on a act I have so many problems with them it makes no sense but all i will say is the guys didn't even snap my master pin lock in place for chain and made my brake way to tight they don't know nothing about bikes

How does this place stay in business, their "in stock" website doesn't match reality, they hardly pick up the phone, and when they do half the time they put you on hold and never come back. and now that the pandemic is over, they can no longer use that as an excuse for poor service.

Couldn't have been happier with my experience at Tread buying a new Surly. Haven't been on a bike in awhile but Ozzie and the other staff member (Teyo maybe?) were very helpful and patient in answering the myriad questions I had about comfort, sizing, usage, etc. Have to admit I was a little nervous as I hadn't been bike shopping for a long time but I felt respected and at ease as soon as I walked in and throughout the process which meant a lot to me! Thank you to the employees at Tread Bike Shop for the great tune up on my bike. Crank/Cassette are spinning effortlessly and brakes are on point. They got the bike feeling brand new.

Excellent mechanics here. I constantly start a project on my bike, can't find the time, and will come here to finish the job. Twice I've come in with racks that needed modification and they went above and beyond to make it work. Cheap place to get your brakes and derailers adjusted from time to time. I'll note that their prices aren't sky high either. They stock cheap components and things like handlebars and racks and fenders. Check here before you buy online. Also, a big note: when they are slammed busy and you need work done, don't go directly to the mechanics counter. Go to the cashier, say what you need, and just drop it off. Very easy. It'll save you time and it's how the work-flow is here. Don't expect the mechanics to drop what they're doing.

Awesome people! I blew a tire a few blocks from the shop and I didn't have enough cash on me to repair it, so they fixed it on my word that I'd come back with the money in a couple of days. They replaced both the tube and tire, and did a better job than my local shop does, at the same price (which I paid two days later, as promised, lol).

Terrible probably worst bike shop I've ever been to waited almost an hour in line to be treated extremely rude , including racial slurs like "hold on papi" and the worst part is they didn't even have any inventory for sale save yourself the time and frustration of shitty place

Tread assembled my husband's and my bike that we bought online from Raleigh. I received a text informing me the bikes was ready to be picked up. When we arrived someone informed me that the bell on my bike was broken. They had already contacted Raleigh and said Raleigh would give me a $20 credit once I contact them. I purchased a new bike bell and they installed right away. The staff there is very helpful! The ladies behind the counter were super helpful in selecting the right lock for our bikes. Thanks Tread! Can't wait to come and buy other accessories for our bikes!

I am so happy with my recent visits to Tread Bike Shop! Brought in my 30+ year old Raleigh road bike to replace some parts and make it more comfortable to ride now that I'm an old lady. Other shops would just try to sell me a new bike and quoted me a ridiculous price and long wait. I absolutely loved the time, attention and advice these guys at Tread gave me. Pricing was pretty fair and I got my bike back quickly. Check out the pictures! Will be bringing in my mountain bike next for sure!

I've had two experiences so far with this bike shop, both excellent. The first summer I moved here I rented a bike for the day-- the bike was great (rode it to Coney Island and bike!), and the daily rate reasonable. Last summer I went in for repairs, and found service rep really helpful (I don't recall the name, but he had a great ponytail/colored-hair streak going on)-- he made me aware of possible repairs without making me feel pressured. I ended up having a lot of work done for what felt like a fine price. I plan on returning to Tread for any future bike work!

Such great service even in Covid times. I'm a cycling novice and Ozzie was very patient with me and thoroughly explained the repairs and maintenance to the bike. I would definitely do business with Tread Bike Shop again!

Tread was my first bike shop in the neighbourhood. Well, they're the only bike shop in the neighbourhood. They seemed like such a find, with a great selection of bikes and accessories. Within easy walking distance too. How excited I was. Two tuneups later, I was completely disillusioned. First, to be fair, the staff were nice enough with general enquiries. Definitely more so when it came to sales, though. That's fine and all but getting a bike serviced there was a completely different matter. A total pain in the ass, to be direct. The thing that really annoyed me was how each tuneup would be followed by 20-30 minutes of wrangling with the floor crew about something that still wasn't working right, followed by a repeat visit for more wrangling when the problem didn't go away after 'giving it some time'. Part of the problem seemed to be that customers weren't allowed to communicate directly with the mechanics. You'd tell one of the floor crew your grievance, they'd try to persuade you it was all in your head, then grudgingly take it to the back for inspection, and repeat. To make matters worse, I really did not like the mechanics. I've seen two guys in the back and they were always telegraphing angry vibes at anyone who dared to question their extremely questionable work. Whenever one of them came out from the back to hand my bike back to one of the floor staff to hand over to me (jeez!), I'd say thanks, and this would elicit a look of contempt. Fine, I didn't need to be chums with the bike dudes but I also didn't want attitude for expecting my bike to actually feel tuned up. The last straw came when I collected my bike and found that the brakes were squealing louder than prepubescent girl during a Justin Bieber sighting. After some fruitless wrangling (jeez!), tweaking (jeez!), test riding the in the parking lot, and more tweaking (jeeeeeezzzz!), I just left. Back home, I saw that the brake pads were completely misaligned. I got out my pliers and spanner, and fixed the fuckers in 15 minutes. Why the fuck did I waste my time arguing with those people?, I thought to myself. That's when the obvious answer hit me. I didn't have to waste my time with them. And I never did again.

Bike shops are deemed Essential business which means they can open to do business. However, when this shop doesn't allow anyone in and then says staff will come to the door it presents a small dilemma. I will give this shop a chance .

This place has terrible customer service. I was looking for a specific scooter for my daughter and found it on their website with a note to call them to reserve it but when I called their phone message said that their website is usually wrong and they straight up don't answer the phone EVER. Why have a website with inventory if you know it's wrong and why tell people to call if you don't pick up or even have the option to leave a message? This place is too far away for me to pop in on the off chance they'll have what I want and I'm certainly not going to go up there now since they don't even have the courtesy to pick up their phone. Really disappointing.

This is THE place for cycle sales and service. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Can't recommend highly enough.

The mechanics are extremely good and honest. And best inventory for parts and accessories in Manhattan in my opinion.

I was so well supported at this shop. I really wanted a new bike, and was a little unsure and the people who work there were impatient and able to support me making a wonderful decision on a bike at a great price! It has totally changed my biking life and I look forward to going to the shop for all of my gear and repairs!

Best bike shop all around. I been coming to this place for a very long time. They know how to do there job right and at the end of the day satisfy there clients right. Whats so cool about this place is you can rent a bike. Plus they can let you know what type of bike suites you best depending on how your going to use it for. They also sell go pros which is pretty much needed when taking long trips in biking. Even when i come inside this place to just see what they have, take a look around to see whats new on the market, those people are cool dont rush u in if your not gonna buy nothing. When you do decide that you want something they will try to gear u up with all the safety gadgets that you need. Check em out if your looking to buy a bike.

Ozzie is the best! I am an uber picky person when it comes to looks for bikes and cars. Plus, I respect brand and quality. With that said, I have been trying to get my hands on a 2014 GT Aggressor 1.0 Black since Summer 2014. All of the local shops were exhausted of supplies, but happy to offer the 2015 model with a discount. Though I just couldn't see myself on the 2015 blue or white frames. So I began an odyssey to search every single bike shop in the US of A for anyone who happened to have one left in stock. Several months and a 100 shops later, I finally found one in my size at Tread Bike Shop. Arguably, I contacted them at their busiest time of year, Christmas. But Ozzie was cool, calm, and collected. He helped me to get the bike of my dreams, and possibly the last bike I will ever own. Given I take good care of it. Thank you Ozzie, thank you Tread Bike Shop!

Tread has been around for many years and I have purchased from them in the past. The owner Ozzie and staff are very friendly, patient, knowledgeable and honest. Customer service is excellent. Recently, I took a good friend bike shopping. The manager MiJueves did not simply grab the most expensive bicycles to upsell. Mijueves assessed his needs, primary use, budget, goals and size before providing several options. I've also utilized the mechanics there as well, they are always helpful and knowledgeable. The shop is located very close to the bike path. It can be busy on weekends during the bicycling season, but that's expected and it's a good sign in my opinion.

I hate to leave this review and I understand covid is affecting people in various ways but pls remember tread bike shop staff; when a customer comes and explains a problem with their bike, THE OWNER is who experienced the issue! Kindly listen to understand and not to respond, especially if it doesn't apply to the problem reported! The place has always been great, fantastic customer service but this dude today was straight rude and downright ignorant! I was displeased! I will return and give another chance and chuck it up to a pandemic, but pls do better. I bought my bike from here, I was encouraged to do the bike 5 boroughs from a staff here and I became a loyal customer and I did the tour 45 miles 2 years ago under the rain! So honestly this dude today was an immaculate asshole sorry to say!

I spent half my life in bike shops. This one is everything a top shop can be. First and foremost putting the customer first. If there's a negative review, anyone can see from the source where the problem lay. I've not seen anything in this store but total dedication to the customer and impeccable mechanic work on all our bikes. The survival of an independent bike shop is a beautiful thing.

In this area, we don't have a lot of choices. Tread, however is the real deal. I usually go right to the mechanic (Marco)and when I was racing, sometimes we'd even be in the same race. He gave me a lot of advice about riding in general and how to adapt my bike to terrain. you can totally trust the mechanic department.The front staff sometimes has a little bit of an off day, however , management is very interested in customer feedback and improving the experience. They engage the community with winter spin classes and other events.

Tread was absolutely amazing! First of all they are being very careful with customers and only allowing a few people in at a time, which is great- but also the customer service was incredible! I worked with Joe, who was not only extremely knowledgeable of all of the products but also so friendly and helpful. He helped me get everything I needed from my beautiful new bike to my water bottle holder and was very patient and kind about my over excitement for my purchase. Such an awesome experience and 100% recommended for anyone looking to get help with their bike or to purchase a new one! Support your local businesses!! Used to be great. Before move across Dyckman to bigger spot, was very personal and customer centric. Now too many hands on the handlebars so to speak. Still OK, but has turned from a gem, into just another busy bike shop.

I've used Tread's services in the past for a range of biking services. During the pandemic, bike rides have been critical to maintaining my mental health. Popped a tube yesterday and was able to get it fixed quickly. Just wanted to share my appreciation for the folks at Tread working during this pandemic.

Very friendly and helpful staff! Many selection to choose from! Good for kids! Rented two bikes from this location! My family really love it! Very helpful staff! Really recommend.

This place is terrible! they are extremely rude to their customers. Their bikes are poor quality, and they don't give you accurate pricing when you get your bike. Its unfortunate that there are no other bicycle rental shops in Inwood. I will definitely not go back there. I'd rather travel out of my way to midtown to rent a bike, than to give this place my money.

While in NYC for the week I rented a bike in midtown and got a flat while riding on greenway. These guys were nearest shop. Sold me a new tube and let me borrow a tire lever and rag while I changed my tube. All the staff were cool and very friendly. Could not have been more helpful.

Dude I went to so many other bike shops in the city. Which everyone should do, because no shop carries every brand. But what struck me, and perhaps I am an over-discerning customer, is that the sales guys at Tread don't want to argue with you. Almost every other shop I went to, if I named some particular features that I wanted the sales guys would lecture me about why I was wrong! Tread bikes can help you if you don't know what you're looking for. They will help you find what you're looking for if you do. To my mind they have a nice range of cheap and high end bikes. I got a couple repairs there on my old bikes and they were always well-done and reasonably-priced. Once I brought in a bike for something else and the guy pointed out that my rack could be installed better. On a different bike my rack hardware completely fell apart and since it was vintage they cobbled together something. It felt very sturdy and they only charged me for labor. In terms of atmosphere I like that they serve a lot of different "kinds" of bikers. You'll see guys who look like they use their bikes to deliver pizza, kids with blinged out bikes, commuters, roadies who are stopping by before heading over the GWB for a 100-mile ride in New Jersey...they also have free air out front. I left the neighborhood a little while ago but I came back to buy my bike. The more I write the more I remember things about them that are awesome so I should probably stop before this review gets too long to read in one sitting.

Some guy gave me a bike that was WAY too small for me, and there was something wrong with the gears. Grrrrrr. I brought the bike back and told the girl behind the counter what happened. She took one look at the bike and said, "Yeah, that is too small for you." I thought it was cool that she didn't try to give me the runaround. She brought out another bike that was fine. On the plus side, it's right next to the entrance to the greenway. If you need help picking out a bike, ask the woman for help.
