This is a great little gem literally hidden in the busy section of Taipei. In addition to the artist village consisted of small studios for local and international artists, there was also a short trail through a protected shaded green area and one of Taiwan’s oldest Buddhist temples (from the Qin Dynasty era). Along the way, we were treated to some real nice views of the river and the “newer” Taipei. The “village” was converted from a housing complex originally built for retired military personnel and their families. You used to be able to find similar complexes throughout Taiwan, but over the years they all have gone by the wayside with a very few exceptions. This particular one was well preserved and kept the exterior pretty much to its original state. It was a real treat for old timers such as myself to be able to enjoy old Taiwan architecture. There were many studios that were open during our visit. We were free to enter and view the artworks and cool down from the extreme Taiwan summer heat. It was such an enjoyable experience, but unfortunately there were hardly any local visitor (only saw a few foreign visitors). I wasn’t sure if it was the summer heat or lack of care from locals. I do suspect it’s the latter.

If you’re not into deep arts, meaningful arts, this is not for you, you will get bored after few small gallery. Its not advisable to walk around in the middle of the day as its getting very hot. Bring water with you if you are planning to explore the entire place. Anyway, the place is well kept, solemn, and there is a nice view. Its a good experience this place. 👍

The area, environment, and landscape are spectacular. It's truly an artist village near the water with some great views. Each house is its own exhibition of artworks from local and international artists in residence. If you're in the Gongguan area (which is a district I really love), I highly recommend it for you to stop by. There's also a beautiful temple and a little restaurant that serves food and drink. I went while it was raining and I wasn't feeling very well so I didn't get to explore that much, but what I did see was marvelous.

Lovely place that reminds me of my childhood. We arrived around 17:30 so there was not much time to explore all the art exhibitions since the studios close at 18:00. Still we managed to see a few art works and even talked to one artist personally. It was simply a very nice experience to walk around the village and discover every corner of it. There are plenty of toilets and they are very clean. They also have an information booth which provides mosquito repellent spray and all kind of information. Take the treasures hill hiking trail instead of the normal street since it is much nicer and has a lot of shade.

Cute and unique experience that reminds me a bit of the Berlin art scene. The village has its own Youbike station, so it's great for an excursion. I went to the current light exhibition - in the evening, the light effects are particularly nice but some galleries close at 18:00. As many artists contribute, there is a wide range of both style and quality. While some exhibits/installations are more whimsical, others are edgy. I wouldn't say that it was the best exhibition I've seen this year but I am definitely glad I went. The fact that it is a bit of a search to find out where all the galleries are hidden and what is an open door vs. a private dwelling makes it a bit of a treasure hunt.

This place is special. You can tell this is a real intentional artist community full of activity and love. It is full of artists and installations that are interesting, unique, inspiring. 3 Cats Club and Tadpole Point cafes, and the community grocery all provide super friendly, delicious snacks and food and drinks from small businesses local to the village. The staff here was incredible, from cleaners to security to everyone else (thank you Enya!). They went out of their way to take care of us over and over. So, so kind. I loved the location, it is close to the river bike/run/walk path, many parks and hikes, and the Gongguan shopping and food district and MRT. The walk from the village to Gongguan is through the jungle and it is beautiful and peaceful. Can’t say enough about the place, and I’ll be excited to stay there longer.

Google
Huge disappointment. Not worth the hot walk from Guangdong station, and not worth the effort walking around in the hot sun within the village. Many of the stores had the closed sign despite us being there after 12pm on a Friday (opening hours indicated on Google and their brochure is Tuesdays to Sundays, 11am to 10pm). The features that we did see were few and far between. Would not recommend.

Google
Honestly, no. Only a few “galleries” are open and the ones that are open aren’t interesting or artistic in any way. Very disappointing especially considering how much of a detour it is from other popular tourist attractions. Natural scenery view is ok and that’s about it

Yelp
This is a quaint place with working artists. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Good food options for snacking along the way and wonderful views of the city.

Yelp
This is a cool place to explore. You walk through a village of houses and can explore the history of the place and see some neat art displays. Some of the houses have only half of the foundation left, while some are still occupied! The faces mural and huge fortune cookie artwork were our favorite. There are so many mosquitoes in this area. Even the free bug spray at the visitor center does not prevent them from biting you!

Yelp
Chill, relaxing area. I didn't visit any studio or gallery - just wandered the whole hill itself. Regardless, I came across multiple art pieces and it was nice just to admire. They have a few spots where you can look out to the hills/traffic - and surprisingly, it had a calming effect. It's also really close to a local market so it's great to grab a bite before or after visiting this place

Yelp
Does nostalgic aesthetic woo you? Does the idea of a bucolic retreat just outside of the city make you shimmy in smiles? Treasure Hill is a gorgeous micro neighborhood that made me grin ear to ear. Treasure Hill is basically a community of artists and art-lovers. A few simple housing structures were built on a green Taipei Hill during the sixties. These residencies are in close proximity of each other, so they have a distinctly neighborly feel to them. The houses are worn down but still charming, hence the name treasure Hill. Most of the houses are now homes for artists or gallery spaces and cafes that are art focused in some way. I really recommend visiting Treasure Hill during the day. You can wander around the community, which is very beautiful, and attend exhibitions that are on at the time. There is also a great restaurant in Treasure Hill where you can grab a bit - or bring a picnic to enjoy on the rolling green hill that lies between the houses and the river.

Yelp
This is an amazing place to take a tour at! It's a mini cultural park of the old houses in Taiwan turned into a picture tourist area. There are many narrow streets that goes up and down featuring the scenery that was left from the past. You will be surprised at every turn when you find a new architecture or reconstructed restaurant. We came here during the evening around 8 and I think it was a great time to come have a peek because there isn't too many people which made the atmosphere really peaceful. You can hear the wind breeze and smell the nature of the trees. It closes at around ten each night and there is fee for the park.

Yelp
It is a really cool place to visit. The ugly concrete building is stacking on top of each other and built on the hill facing toward a really nice view of Taipei river. This place was built around the time when KMT retreated to Taiwan and brought huge among of people from mainland China. People desperately need a place for living so this villa is built organically according to their need. Today most of the resident have already moved out. A lot of artist and art studio flooded in for the cheap rent and nice environment to replaced the unused space. The arrangement of the space is amazingly random, there is always a little surprise by art as turn at the corner. A hostel is running business there along with some restaurants and cafe, you can get a really cheap price for a room. Getting there is a bit hard with no clear direction along the road, better to do some research on Internet! Personally, I strongly recommend to pay visit there!
