Treats is a great little shop. They have locally made pastries, desserts, bread and sandwiches at the counter. There is a table of penny candy, and shelves lined with assorted specialty food items (both local and from other states in the US) and gifts (linens, mugs, etc). A decent selection of coffee you serve yourself is available, with any add ins you need. In the second room is a beer/wine/cheese shop with a selection of higher end beer/wine.
My main gripe is that it always seems under stocked and inconsistent. There are definitely always a plethora of treats (hence the name), but the bread selection either sells out immediately, or there are days they simply don't receive a shipment from the local baker. I totally get that this is a small shop that can't overstock items, and Wiscasset downtown is in a desperate need of a revitalization, so foot traffic is low (especially in the off season).
The beer/cider seem incredibly under stocked. I don't get this as much, since it has a much longer shelf life than a lot of the other items in the store. I guess I just hope to see more stock and variety in their beer/cider/wine.
I can't speak much about the cheese, but it's location seems under highlighted and easily overlooked. I plan to check this out more the next time I have guests over and am looking to put together a cheese board.
I am interested to see if there is more stock in the summer season, but feel I can't depend on Treats as a consistent purveyor of goods, and rather a shop you just go into and see what they randomly happen to have that day. I always look around at the great space they have and just want more out of it. I totally understand the somewhat tough environment the area is currently in, and applaud them for being in business for so long despite the hardships the downtown seems to be having.
