This is the train that takes you up to the Christ The Redeemer statue. Because we were on a private tour, our tickets were pre-purchased and I guess we could go up at anytime. We returned a few days later to go up on our own again, but the tickets had a one hour wait time, so plan accordingly. Tickets were about $8 per person round trip. Crowds at the end of June were minimal. The main station features restrooms and a gift shop. Be sure to check out the cool flag display hanging from the ceiling. The journey up on the electric train took about 20 minutes, making two stops in between. Once at the top, you're free to stay as long as you like at the Statue. There are more gift shops and small cafes there. TIPS: Unfortunately, the site closes at night. There is a road that goes up to the Statue as well.

The Corcovado Train is a classic and comfortable way to reach the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. The ride takes you through beautiful Atlantic rainforest, offering stunning views along the way — for the best scenery, try to sit on the right side of the train. The service is well-organized and ideal for visitors of all ages. Booking your ticket in advance is highly recommended, especially on weekends, as it gives you much faster access. The train has a long history: it first reached the top of Corcovado Hill (710 m) back in 1885 and has been fully electric since 1910. Today’s trains, built by Stadler Rail (2019), are environmentally friendly — they recover energy from the downhill ride and use it to power the uphill journey. Fun fact: Remember the movie Rio? The train appears in a few scenes — so if you look closely, you might just spot a certain blue bird along the way.

Buy your tickets directly in advance. Currently the site doesn't let you register it seems ( wrong date error). Reset password and you are good to go. Lines are long. They offer van transportation but the busy trainride is part of the experience😎

Well organised and a must if visiting Christ the Redeemer. It could get busy, and if you buy tickets online, stick to the time slot you have booked.

I don’t understand the bad reviews. I went on a Sunday, 2:30pm, no long queues. 1) From Ipanema, I Uber to “Cosme Velho”. Back and forth my total Uber is just under 70 brl. 2) When I arrived, I immediately went to the cashiers. If you’re paying by CC, you will be instructed to buy through their machines, and if by cash, through the cashiers. As of February 2025, adult price is 128.00 brl! 3) Then board their trains immediately! Sit on the right side for a nicer view. It’s a 20-minute ride. Be sure to keep your ticket safe to be able to ride the train back. 4) When you’re up there, you have an option to take elevator, escalator, or stairs to go to the Christ the Redeemer statue. I suggest, if you can do the stairs, you can see additional views of Rio… 5) When you’re done, go down with the train again, and just take an Uber back to Ipanema.

Cosme Velho The tram where you needed a ride to when you visited Christ the Redeemer. I went to the ticketing office early in the morning around 8 am (they accept cash and card), there’s a lot of visitors and tourists alike which was really surprising. After buying the tram tickets you will queue and wait for your turn to ride the tram. I was alone and luckily enough to catch the first tram going up Christ the Redeemer. The thing I would like to suggest is that DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKET CARD. Once you enter, SIT ON THE RIGHT SIDE near the tram door for the views (but they will announce that you can take your phone cameras because the views are stunning). There is also another stop for the tram which is the museum but I didn’t bother to go there as I was running out of time. The line for the tram going back to the main station is really long.

It's a tain station for the train up to the christ statue. Good to know: outside of the station, there are loads of people who wants to sell you tickets for a Van ride up to the statue instead. I saw people doing this, but I don't know how this ride is compared to the train. Inside the train station, you can buy tickets using credit cards from one of the several machine. These also had the shortest/no queue. This is my recommendation, as buying with cash or even change the online voucher for a physical ticket had longer queues. Also, whatever time you pick for departure, doesn't matter. You have to stand in line for the departure and can board any train. One slight frustration while queuing is the constant flow of guided groups that are bypassing you. Also, you don't need to take (and later buy) a photo, even when it might sound like that when you say no.
