Trewornan Manor, Wadebridge, Cornwall - Explore & Book

"To quote the great Kevin McCloud, “The best homes are autobiographical.” But what if you’re the biographer and it’s the building’s story that needs telling? Dating back to 1211, Trewornan Manor is one of the oldest houses in the country, and one of Cornwall’s most significant. So, after purchasing it in a dilapidated state, new owners Paul and Lesley were faced with the immense task of unearthing its past while also writing its newest chapter. With support from English Heritage, they delicately coerced the Grade II* listed estate into the 21st Century - and their attention to detail is impeccable. Original wood panelling and Lewis and Wood wallpaper now sit alongside emperor beds and rainfall showers - and in one bedroom you can still see where an 18th-century bride excitedly scratched her new signature into a window pane using her engagement ring. In the guest lounge, Paul built the coffee table using slate from the garden, and chose authentic Farrow & Ball shades to frame the crackling fire. We loved it. Highs Seven really beautiful bedrooms with emperor-sized beds, nespresso machines and homemade treatsGreat value for the level of luxury provided25 acres of grounds including pretty gardens, a water meadow and woodlands; bring binoculars for bird watchingAdults only, and the whole vibe is relaxation. Enjoy long lie ins and lazy breakfastsClose to Padstow, Rock, Polzeath and Watergate Bay for lovely beaches and fine-dining restaurants Lows Breakfast is the only meal provided, and you’ll have to drive to the nearest restaurantLundy and Harlyn lack the other rooms' grand proportions, though they are great value and certainly don't feel crampedFairly close to the road and you can hear traffic from some rooms, but it's hardly a thoroughfareNo check-in until 4pm" - Melissa Burfitt

We were looking for somewhere to stay for a night on our trip into Cornwall and found this as part of a search. ||A hidden gem. Very grand drive up through beautiful grounds. Our room was Harlyn - not a huge room, but everything we needed. A massive comfy bed and a huge walk in shower. | |The afternoon tea and cakes was a lovely addition. ||Breakfast was exceptional. Plenty of choice and the quality was fantastic.||Paul kindly arranged a taxi for us as well for our dinner booking.||Would definitely recommend and will certainly stay again.

Every detail has been taken care of at this beautiful property. The warmest welcome, the comfiest beds, the tastiest cakes, the heartiest breakfast...there are genuinely not enough superlatives to describe Trewornan Manor. Thank you to Paul and Jess for a wonderful stay. We'll be back!

My mum and I have been coming back to Trewornan for 10 years now, since it opened. Every single visit has been wonderful, it’s the highlight of our year. Paul and Lesley have created such an incredibly special place. Not only is the building old and beautiful and interesting but the atmosphere they’ve made is like no other. Breakfast is always delicious, and the local knowledge from Paul is excellent - whether it’s things to do or places to eat. Definitely make sure you have tea and homemade cake in the afternoon too. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The Manor had been recommended by friends who had stayed there in May. Despite the glowing recommandation we were not prepared for the stunning beauty of the place, the immaculate rooms, the care provided, and the delicious breakfast.

We have just returned from our second visit to Trewornan Manor , staying in the " Portilly Room " , we had a 5* + experience . Paul and Jess could not have been more helpful , from the moment you arrive you immediately relax as you are greeted with a pot of tea and a choice of amazing cakes baked by Pauls mother .|Staying there is like staying with friends , the woodburner is lit , an honesty bar , and the amazing breakfast .|Thank you both very much and to your other Staff .

One of the best stays. Hotel and rooms were perfect. Service and customer care was faultless. Owners and staff were friendly and caring. Breakfast was the best. Boat store house room is outstanding. I struggle to fault anything. Will definitely stay again.
