A fun speakeasy, once you figure out where it is! Go inside and ring the bell. The staff were really friendly and we loved the idea that the cocktail menu was also a puzzle story. The place itself is very cozy, it felt like we had slipped back in time. The cocktails were expensive but very good. You have to leave through the back.

Once inside, the atmosphere is pitch-perfect: dim lights, vintage décor, and an attention to detail that makes every corner feel like part of a carefully kept story. The cocktails are nothing short of outstanding. Each drink is crafted with precision, presented beautifully, and infused with creativity that matches the speakeasy’s character. The music ties it all together, smooth and stylish, enhancing the sense that you’re part of a hidden world far removed from the streets outside. Special mention must go to Alexis behind the bar. Not only does he know his liquors with impressive depth, but he also carries the spirit of Trillby & Chadwick’s legendary detective history with charm and wit. Listening to him weave stories of the bar’s past while mixing a flawless cocktail is part of what makes the experience unforgettable. Altogether, Trillby & Chadwick is more than just a bar—it’s an immersive escape, where every sip and sound is wrapped in atmosphere. Here’s the (delightfully pulpy) “history” of Trillby & Chadwick—note it’s a fictional backstory but still a very good one Origins (1898): The agency is said to have been founded in London by Hildebrand Trillby and Ashcroft Chadwick, quickly earning fame for cracking high-profile cases the Metropolitan Police’s Special Branch couldn’t (or wouldn’t) solve. Helsinki office & Prohibition (1924–1932): A Helsinki branch supposedly opened in 1924 to help enforce Finland’s prohibition laws. In a twist, that very office “went rogue” and became one of the city’s most profitable secret bars—hidden in plain sight and never raided. War-time end (1941): After Prohibition was repealed in 1932, the office faded from view and was destroyed by arson in 1941; the culprits were never found. Rediscovered files (late 20th c.): Decades later, building works allegedly uncovered a fire safe with agency journals and the founders’ diaries—material that “revived” the legend. Modern revival as a bar : The story now frames Trillby & Chadwick Detective Agency, a hidden cocktail bar in central Helsinki (run by Son of a Punch). The bar leans into the case-file lore across its menu and décor.

To be honest I was not expecting that much welcoming and cozy bar! Entrance was passed smoothly :) I really liked the cocktails. Especially "Blissful Bohemian" with nutty, coffee flavours. Anton is a great bartender and chatter. I would highly recommend!

Brilliant place with a lot of style. Every cocktail was balanced and the bartenders know what they are doing. No matter if you take from the menu or you want some classic. The history of the place is very intriguing.

Excellent bar! The bartenders had fantastic cocktail recommendations and the environment was perfect. It took us a second to figure out how to get in, which is a part of the fun! If you go to one cocktail bar in Helsinki, make it this one!

From the moment you step inside, this speakeasy delivers a playful yet atmospheric experience. The dim lighting sets just the right tone—intimate without feeling gloomy—and the music adds to the mood, well-chosen -- and pleasantly unobtrusive. Service was outstanding throughout: attentive, relaxed, and we felt genuinely welcome, though we were walk-ins. The cocktails were a real highlight, both in presentation and taste—creative, balanced, and clearly crafted with care. On their 2025 summer menu there's a modified pina colada -style cocktail, and it's so tasty I had two. Lovely, small courtyard garden. While the prices are on the higher side, the overall quality and experience make it feel justified. A really well hidden gem with real character. We will definitely return.

I visited with a group of friends and we had a rather awkward experience. One of my friends joined us after we already had one round of drinks at the bar. The very young male bartender scolded her (female in her 60s) because she apparently entered through a wrong door. He closed the bar early and refused to serve her a drink. It was about 25 minutes before the closing time. He claimed he made a last call but somehow nobody noticed. If you are looking for friendly and welcoming staff I recommend you go somewhere else.
