Trip's Diner

I recently stopped by Trip's Diner on N Florida Ave for a casual meal, and it was a pleasant experience. The diner has a relaxed, welcoming vibe, and the staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered a classic diner breakfast, and everything was fresh, hot, and well-prepared. The portions were generous, and the food had that comforting, homemade feel. The atmosphere made it easy to enjoy the meal at a comfortable pace. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a simple, satisfying breakfast or lunch. I’d definitely visit again when I’m in the area.

One of our Tampa favorites. The large home cooked meals are sure to satisfy any appetite! We have been coming here for years and have tried different things off the menu and have yet to find something we did not like. The service is fantastic and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Don't forget to try one of the delicious cookies on the way out!

Google
Great service with a smile. Clean. Very price conducive for party of 5. Must try shrimp and grits and their loaded fries (say “make it hot” if you like mellow spice) Desserts were great. Very homie southern restaurant.

Google
Great food and even better customer service. Get here early because there will be a line out the door. My wife got the shrimp and grits and easily cleaned her plate. I got the crab omelet and it was full of crab meat. Great brunch option on the weekends.

Had a Great experience in Tampa at Trips Diner. The food was Delicious, well presented and staff was very amazingly friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We will be back soon!

Google
This breakfast diner did not disappoint! The food her was excellent! Thet had a wide variety of food items to choose. As well as the customer service! Also, you cannot beat the price, surprisingly good. Chain breakfast restaurants can learn a thing or two from this spot! I will definitely come dine here for breakfast or brunch!

I'm so glad we wandered in. The hostesses and the wait staff were very friendly. They helped the short wait that we had go that much quicker. I had the breakfast Cuban. It was delicious. My friend had the fried grouper sandwich. He said it was cooked just right. I will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Service 5/5: friendly staff, refilled our water, checked up on us, got our food really quickly Ambiance 5/5: clean breakfast diner vibes, veg homey. Food 5/5: the food here is always good. I got my chicken biscuit that was nice and juicy. Crispy breading however the breading doesn't really stick on the chicken, but I don't care. I just pick it up and put on the chicken eat it. Sausage gravy is delicious here. Nice and creamy and well season. The biscuit is OK it's a little bit on the dryer side. But there's some sausage gravy on it is great. Homemade fried typically done very well here when I asked for them well done this visit. It wasn't well done as I usually like it. But but typically it's done the way I like it. The shrimp and grits were also great. The shrimp was seasoned well cooked perfectly. The grits were nice and buttery. My only input would be to have the cheese melted on. I have the cheese crumbled on top, but it never really melted in. It'd be much better if it was actually melted onto the grits. Otherwise, everything is great.

Yelp
I always have a such a good experience at Trip's Diner! It gives that classic neighborhood diner feel but with food that tastes way better than your average spot. It's always busy when I go, but they keep that friendly upbeat vibe the whole time. My meal came out hot, fresh, and seasoned just right. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and everything just feels comforting, like the kind of breakfast or lunch you look forward to all week.

Yelp
Huge omelettes. Enormous pancakes. You won't leave here hungry. Prices are reasonable. Our server was friendly but we did have to wait a while for a table. Not a surprise for a weekend breakfast. Seating at the bar is first come first served but it was also full. Trips gives cozy old school diner vibes. It felt really comfortable on a cold morning.

Yelp
3 menu items that will get me into any establishment: catfish, grits, fried green tomatoes. Trips has all 3 and all 3 were amazing. The price point is perfect. Trips isn't one for the flare, they're just in it for the authentic good food and you can tell that. They keep things simple, delicious and cost effective and that's why that parking lot is always packed!

Yelp
Ate breakfast this morning at our fav spot with our favorite waitress, Yvette and it was yummy and usual. Coffee is good and the omelette was as well! Competitive to get in on the weekends - but we were successful today!

Yelp
So there is so much I can say but this place was amazing . The staff here were really friendly. The have plenty of seating but they do get really packed. The food was Aaahhhmazing and delicious.Their loaded grits are a must try and their fried green tomatoes. My kids had the hubcap pancakes and when I tell you filling ! Bring family, friends or just come solo. Definitely a place to come back to.

Yelp
Love that places like this exist. Takes you back in time every time you visit. This diner even has the floor and bar stool seating that reminds you of the 50's and 60's. You'll see people eating here that have probably been doing so for the past 50 years. On the wall near the entrance are pics of the different restaurants this has been over the years. Our table had an old brochure of Hillsborough State Park and old post cards of Tampa Bay from the 60's. My Trip's TRIPLE club was very tasty and loaded with goodness that was finger looking good. I had it on sourdough and it was toasted. I'd give it a 4.5/5. My friend tried the hamburger with honey BBQ and Gouda cheese with bacon. Perfectly cooked. 5/5. Both of us wolfed the sweet potato fries, a 99 cent upgrade. These were excellent. Service is quick. Wish they had the chef ding a bell when food comes out or at least reminds the wait staff when food has been sitting in the pass-through for a few minutes. Not a big deal because our waitress made sure the burger was cooked exactly how it was ordered. Also friendly. Plenty of parking in the main lot on the south side of the building, which is good because many restaurants in this area of town are limited in this department. They also have outside seating, but I've never sat there. Plenty of booths and tables inside, along with the barstools for service in front of the chef. Desserts are very fairly priced. Like a root beer float for $3.99 in September 2025. Various pies and cookies with several flavors of ice cream available. Such a great trip back in time! Prices are affordable for the whole family to eat without breaking the bank.

Yelp
Found this place on TikTok and absolutely loved it! We came on a weekend and didn't have to wait at all. The service was great from start to finish, and the food was amazing. I had the chicken and biscuit with gravy, and the "mini" pancake was huge! The inside was super clean and welcoming. Overall, such a great breakfast spot and I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
I'm full but I had to get something since I came here to edit footage. So pie. Love me some pie. Peanut butter pie aka Reese's pie is the best according to the waitress. See below. I don't think I need to explain.
google avatar

Liyike J.

Yelp
Classic diner energy, open all day, prices fair, service friendly, easy parking Get an omelet if you're hungry and not sure what you want A lotta hype around shrimp grits but I can't do with mushy stuff lol

Yelp
Coming to the diner -wasn't expecting anything less then a breakfast meal - then we had Skyler as our server- she did an amazing job - along with the meal was 5/5 thanks again !
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here plenty of times over the years and the experience today was no different than any other experience I've had - a great one! Our server was Gretta - she was attentive and friendly. All of our orders came out correct (there were 6 of us). All the food that I had was delicious and everything everyone else had was no different. We received our food within 10-15 minutes of ordering--a bit longer than I usually like to wait, but by no means something to complain about, especially considering it was about as busy as it gets. I got the Meatloaf with 2 sides: Mashed Potatoes w/ Brown Gravy and Collard Greens and my drink was a Coke. My meal was just over $20 after tip, a fair price for the portions. Overall, always a great dining experience here. A decent sized place with the local diner feel. I've always loved the little pieces of history within each table (which can sort of be seen in my photo) in the form of old Tampa news articles, photos, maps, etc... I highly recommend to anyone looking for a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Yelp
We come here frequently with a medium size party and the food is always wonderful and cheaply priced. Brittney gives great service each and every time!
google avatar

Dominique D.

Yelp
Everything but the chocolate chip pancake was great. It was only 3.99 so I guess I can't complain but it was dry and burnt. The service was very friendly and quick. It was slightly crowded but we only waited 5-10 minutes to be seated on a Sunday at noon.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Love. The end. Seriously, wonderful old diner in the neighborhood. Great breakfasts, reasonably priced, fast and friendly service!

Kristin D.

Yelp
Our visit here was less than favorable. We were sat on the patio by the host, it took about 15 mins before anyone came to our table and greeted us. After that time someone (not our server) brought waters and we waited about 5 more minutes for our server to come. while we sat outside we overwhelmed by the stench of cigarettes from the kitchen staff taking their smoke breaks right behind the building that connects to the patio seating. We finally ordered when our server came over, and not too long later our food was delivered. After she dropped our food she never came back to check on us or refill our drinks. I had ordered the fried chicken salad. It was sopping wet with dressing and the breading was falling off the chicken. I tried to send it back but our server never came back. we had to go inside and find someone to cash out and show them the salad to remove it. Both the service and food were low quality.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
When the parking lot AND the overflow parking is packed, you know it's got to be good! Worth the short wait for a table on a Saturday morning. The service was so good and friendly, the serving sizes large and the food, GREAT!
google avatar

Don M.

Yelp
Very friendly and efficient service on our first visit (but not good at all on our second visit). Clean without smelling like cleaner. Old fashioned tile floors for ambiance (see in pic). Comfy booths. One of the best Cobb Salads I have ever had. I also had half of a BST sandwich that had a hot, freshly fried green tomato on it, and it was amazing even though they forgot the bacon. The only thing not up to the standard of everything else was the coffee which tasted burnt on our first visit. The coffee was fresher on our second visit, but I was never offered a refill. If there is anything a diner should get consistently right, it's the coffee and coffee service.
google avatar

Noel S.

Yelp
5 stars because the food, environment & customer service is top notch on the beautiful Sunday that I went with my family. The service is always great, the food tasty and the dessert section is always filled with sweet and savory treats for before or after your meal! A Tampa staple. Every time I visit i want to go there first.

Yelp
One of those places you might have nonchalantly missed, having driven right on by. For years. That'd be me. But, I put a stop to that nonsense on Tuesday! Made plans to meet my son and take him there for lunch. Inside, it is much larger than I'd imagined. Very roomy. Diner on steroids atmosphere. Nice sized menu. Definitely doable finding something to please your palate. My boy got breakfast basics. Eggs, hash browns etc with a luscious hollandaise sauce drizzled o'er it. His smile said it all. Yum. I got the Breakfast Cuban. As much as I love a traditional Cuban sandwich, I was pleasantly surprised at this variation on a theme. VERY nice bunch of flavors pressed into that crunch. Service was excellent! Kind and accommodating. And check out those chocolate chips while you're cashing out! We had a great trip!

Yelp
My father and I came to visit Tampa to do some house hunting. We wanted to find a place that had some breakfast. We're so glad that we found Trip's Diner. Our food came out fast and it was delicious. Not only that, the waitress was friendly and tended to our needs. Even the manager came around to see how our order was. This place is most definitely our spot when we are back in town.
google avatar

Quinessa H.

Yelp
This is still one of my favorite staple restaurants to eat in Tampa. Went here for brunch with two friends who were first timers and they thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I had the chicken biscuits with a side of gravy, sliced tomatoes, and of course I had to get the grits. The cheese grits are probably my favorite menu item here and they taste better every time I visit. One of my friends had the shrimp and grits and the other had chicken and waffles. If you're debating going, stop, debating, and just visit.
google avatar

Maya T.

Yelp
First time coming and it feels like a Bob Evan's. Just comfy haha The food was great! I got country fried steak with corn bread and fruit. Very interesting they search it with "garlic bread" which is just toast with garlic. Their corn bread had an unusual flavor also but good Our waitress was very kind. Amazing service and fast too.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
You'll love the cheese grits here. Even if you don't like grits, try em! I like the chicken and biscuits. Coffee is absolutely horrible and the sausage links are turkey, yuck but the other stuff makes up for it. My buddy ordered the egg sandwich and it looked so sad with one egg and one sausage patty it was disappointing but the managers response in the red shirt made it worse. Oh well. The loaded potatoes are great and the service is usually good. Definitely try this place but IMO get your coffee elsewhere..
google avatar

Tamika T.

Yelp
This is amazing spot to go eat if you are looking for some great food and impeccable customer service. The prices are wonderful but the menu and food are far beyond what you would expect for the prices. There is usually a wait time but it's so worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here today on the recommendation of a friend. As a few folks have said the outside is not very impressive and the parking is limited but once you get inside the place opens up with plenty of seats available. Once seated we were served quickly. Our meals were a decent portion and we ended up bringing some food home. My meal was ok but not amazing. The wife had biscuits and gravy with bacon. She really enjoyed hers and said she would get it again. Mine was the corned beef hash with eggs and toast. The corned beef was not my favorite so I probably would get something different on our next visit. The interior of the dinner looked exactly like an old school dinner and was clean. The service was great and yes I will come back sometime.

Carmen M.

Yelp
I went to eat at this restaurant and l ordered meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables it was delicious, my son in law had breakfast for dinner and the size of that pancake was like 3 pancakes in- in one never seen a pancake so large with eggs and bacon. It was enough to eat and bring home for breakfast the next day . The waitress was kind and generous and very attentive. Overall l will definitely go back and try some of the other menus. Everything looks so good. I definitely will score it and give it 5 stars

Yelp
Page, our server, was super great! Her menu descriptions and recommendations were spot on!!!!! The avocado toast was so very fresh and yummy!!!!! The Big Breakfast was really big and flavorful!!!!!! We'll be back!!!!!!

Ben S.

Yelp
Best diner in Tampa, everyone is always super friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely slapping

Yelp
I had heard good things about this place and had to try it for myself. It seems small from the outside, but it opens up and has many seating options for their patrons. I got to enjoy a comfortable booth. I chose the biscuit and gravy meal. It had one biscuit split in half and generously covered with sausage gravy with two eggs cooked to order, two thick cut slices of bacon and I chose the home fries for my side. This was a breakfast fit for a king or queen. It was more than I could eat in one setting, so I got to enjoy leftovers the next morning. The gravy was filled with sausage and the bacon was exceptional. Our server was friendly and attentive. I look forward to coming back and trying more yummy things here.
google avatar

Marley R.

Yelp
This local diner is our go-to for breakfast! Been here multiple times and it's always just as good as the last. We love the fried chicken biscuit sandwiches with gravy and homestyle potatoes. The omelette and pancakes are also a must try. We always say come hungry and wear some stretchy pants because you'll be fed here for sure! Great spot for family visiting or any Sunday brunch!
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
I've driven past tips diner many times and never tried it but one Sunday I decided to. If you know restaurants in the Seminole heights area off north Florida Ave you know that parking can be tricky. Here there is ample parking by the restaurant and an overflow. Going in it looks like a traditional diner with modern updates so you can still have that nostalgic feel. They offer breakfast and lunch/dinner items. The staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the French toast platter and it was as expected. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Lyric C.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for some of Tampa's best diners and Trip's is going near the top. The first thing you need to do is make a game plan for parking. You may end up parking on a side street depending on the time of day. Once you go in, there are options for takeout, inside or outside seating, and a breakfast bar in the back. I opted to skip the wait and eat at the breakfast bar. Definitely plan on trying outside next time, maybe even some of the fat free lettuce if it's still available! I ordered one of their French toast breakfast combos and added a biscuit. The food was delicious. French toast was soft and not overtly sweet, but adding syrup transformed the flavors into sweeter bites. Eggs were pretty good, the bacon was ridiculous . It's pretty thick and had a great crunch while not being burnt. My server worked the bar and you could tell the restaurant was busy. It was kinda cool to see everyone working so well together to push out the orders. My food took less than 15 minutes and it seemed like they had a good system in place to handle the high influx of customers.
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
The quality of food for the money, particularly their steak is hard to beat in Tampa. Yes, good steak ar a diner is possible and for under $20. The coffee is excellent and loved my omelet. At times the service can be off, but overall they are fast and consistent. It's a neighborhood gem, that hopefully will continue to provide great value for years to come.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This is probably the best diner in Tampa! Truly a local spot and superb wait staff. It feel homey and cozy the moment you set foot inside. Oh yes and they have an outside patio which is pet friendly . Huge plus for us! The food is fantastic! We have been here several times. I have ate the huge pancakes which is made from scratch pancake recipe. The biscuits with gravy are to die for!!! Omg soooo delicious! The lobster bisque is creamy and refined. Excellent quality of lobster bisque soup didn't expect that in a diner. The Cuban sandwich are top notch and give plenty t of competition to sandwich shops. The corn-beef hash is a homemade style recipe so savory. The cookies and the cakes are the go to after such a great meal!
google avatar

Nina C.

Yelp
The food here was pretty good but our server was a little much. Throughout the whole meal, She only came up to our table from the wall side, poking her head and leaning over the top. It was a lot. We asked her for her opinion of different dishes and the first few she said were not that good - like well damn, okay ? We both ended up going with the safest option, the French toast and egg breakfast for me and the ham and cheese for my friend. I did really want to try the shrimp and grits and when i saw several orders of them being delivered to other tables looking delicious and was a little annoyed but my breakfast was still yummy. I won't say her name here but i usually never regret asking about recommendations. Next time I'll try the shrimp!
google avatar

Lori C.

Yelp
The bacon is amazing!!!!!! Always conssitent good food and the staff is great. My go to breakfast spot!
google avatar

Adams C.

Yelp
What can I say other than amazing again! Try the lobster bisque omg if you like cherry!!!
google avatar

Denise W.

Yelp
Definitely will be back here it's my new favorite spot after Sunday church service. You can have breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner walking in here. I'm so sorry my pictures got deleted so I will be back again to show them off but for now please know this is definitely worth a Trip!! Get it Trips Dinner lol

Claudette L.

Yelp
I took my sister-in-law for brunch, she had the Big Breakfast and I had Hash Brown. She said the Canadian bacon was delicious accompaniment. I would have liked mire potatoes and onions in my hash brown, but it was still good. The service was good with a friendly, polite waitress and the deck is perfect with the privacy bushes and large fans allowing for a private conversation without having to shout.

ricky f.

Yelp
Do not order the steak bowl my bowl came with 6 small pieces of steak and was loaded with potatoes to make it look filling
google avatar

Kathy E.

Yelp
We come here often and have never gotten a bad meal. Services is always good and portion size is generous too.

Jayce M.

Yelp
We always have a very great time when we go to trips the service was amazing our server Auna was awesome she kept our glasses full and made sure we didn't need anything the shrimp alfredo was spectacular I wanted something different than what I normally get and it did the job
google avatar

Chloe H.

Yelp
Had to wait about 15 minutes which was good for a Sunday am! Staff were very kind. I wasn't too impressed with the food- everyone's eggs seemed to be under cooked. Also saw a server sneeze without covering their nose. Ambiance was good- all different types of people. Servers were on top of coffee refills and taking orders.
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
Trip's Diner is a clean, bright restaurant with all day breakfast and a big lunch menu. I ordered my preferred breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs and wheat toast, and added grits because they're so rarely on menus in upstate NY! My meal was delicious. Big fluffy toast, creamy (but not watery) grits, and perfect eggs. Let's talk about how affordable this meal was. My breakfast and coffee were only $10.73 altogether. Trip's has a large parking lot, lots of seating, and friendly staff. My food came out fast, and my server Jasmine was on top of coffee refills, water, napkins, and whatever else I needed. My table had a cute collage of vintage Florida maps and postcards. I can't think of one negative thing to say about this place - it was fantastic!
google avatar

Eazey A.

Yelp
Another disappointment! So, I said I wouldn't come back, buttttt, I did, and would you believe we had the same experience with service? Sat outside, no acknowledgement for at least 15 minutes...even if you're not my server, wouldn't you notice that there are no drinks/utensils, nothing on the table and you've looked at us all three times you came to tend to your assigned table? Anyway, food was horrible, all three meals were cold, the kid's pancake was probably from yesterday and I asked for it plain, but it came loaded with powdered sugar. The steak bowl was overcooked and cold, the hollandaise sauce was clumpy and awful. It's been about 15 minutes, and I already feel nauseated. The server doesn't prepare the food, but he should've noticed how long it sat out and that the plates weren't even warm. I'm not a hater so I didn't warn anyone else on the patio, but sorry to them.
google avatar

Teriann C.

Yelp
This is a regular favorite spot of ours! The service is always excellent, they are quick but friendly and there's always hot coffee in your cup. Their grits are the best I've had in Tampa so far, their burgers are perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the biscuits are fluffy. The restaurant is always clean despite being busy and I've never met an unfriendly employee.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Don't have any information on cost. I did enjoy the staff and menu. Not only was the server timely, it was pleasant. The overall vibe was positive also.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect old school diner! Sit at the bar and you'll be amazed watching the kitchen pump out dishes so quickly.
