Yelp
Better than expected in every way. Ambience service and food. All excellent. Best to make a reservation as this place is very popular.

Damien M.

Yelp
Boring..old and out of date...food extremely average. Staff condescending and attitude...prob was ok in 1980 /90..Lots of fantastic restaurants in Dublin..This isn't one

Yelp
FANTASTIC FOOD Everything we had was delicious. One of the best / most notable food we had on our trip. Great atmosphere Service was on point. Would recommend reservations or whatever you have to do to eat here. Well worth it

Green T.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant with great service. It gives off a jazz bar type of vibe. However, the food was subpar and quite expensive. In particular, their pan fried cod fillet was very bland and the bread and butter pudding was too sweet for my taste. The pan fried scallops were pretty good. Overall would recommend with reservations.

Yelp
The ambiance is old Hollywood. Lots of pictures of actors nobody recognizes and mirrors on the walls. Waiters in white shirts and vests. The food was good but not great. The food and wine is pricey, so expect to pay a bit more but you're in Dublin and everything is pricey. The two star review which maybe could have been a four star is because the waiter told us as we were paying that now was the time to leave a tip and what percentage did we want to leave! We are big fans on tipping in US anywhere from 20-25% but this place already was up charging...€9.50 for a glass of New Zealand wine!! we've been to the north, west, and south in Ireland and this tip remark was the first...because we were Americans?? Yep, left 15%!! Lol and a bad taste in our mouths....

Yelp
The atmosphere, the music, the service, and the food were all amazing! Our server, Tom, was friendly and gracious! We are in Ireland celebrating my birthday and he made it so very special by presenting me with a slice of delicious cheesecake and singing in that wonderful Irish brogue, happy birthday. When you are in Dublin you must give them a try! You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
I'm so happy that we went here for dinner on my last night in Dublin! We didn't have any reservations, but luckily we didn't have to wait for seating. The restaurant is a lot bigger than in looks and has that old steakhouse feel to it. There are photos in frames on the wall of famous actors- not sure if it's because they all dined here before? The staff even takes your coat and bags if you prefer, so that you have more room at the table. I ordered the filet mignon for my main course and we also got the scallops and crab salad as our appetizers to share. Both the salad and scallops were tasty dishes, so I couldn't wait for my entree to arrive. When our steaks came out with our sides, it looked really appetizing. We were given bread and butter, potatoes, fries, mashed potatoes, but also ordered a side of sauteed mushroom and onions as well. Everything was very flavorful and absolutely delicious. Service was on point and I would say that this was my favorite meal on the whole trip.

Yelp
V busy on a Monday evening. Came here for my mum's birthday. Service seemed gruff but passable. The food was good. This place has been around for so long they're definitely doing something right! The service just let it down slightly for me.

Sean G.

Yelp
Monday evening very busy so that says a lot. Everyone else enjoyed it but I felt it wasn't all that memorable. The staff were somewhat dour. The food was good but the monkfish was destroyed by a salty soy glaze. The fries were probably the best I've had in sometime. I prefer a larger glass for my wine as opposed to the small goblets. It was good not great. Bill for 3 with tip 225euro

Yelp
We came to Trocadero after a friend's family highly recommended it. We came while the pre theater menu was available and both enjoyed the red pepper puree soup and dry aged rib eye steak. My husband opted for the sticky toffee pudding while I had the strawberry and marscapone mousse. The steak is served with a mini platter of sides including fries, roasted potatoes, creamed corn with peas, and green beans. We both liked the potato sides but neither of us are particularly fond of peas or green beans so those remained mostly untouched. The steaks were cooked properly and tasted good. They weren't the best steaks either of us had ever had but it was definitely above average. The ambiance is higher end with mirrored walls, plush seats, dim lighting, and ornate decorations. The service was very attentive. Maybe it helped we were seated near the entrance to the kitchen but our orders were taken promptly and food came quickly. There was a bit of a delay with the check but I think they were very busy at the time as our waiter was constantly on the move taking care of everyone in his very large section. Reservations are recommended but not necessary. We came around 5 PM on a week night and were seated promptly. There seemed to be several available tables at the time. A reservation may be more necessary during peak hours. 4 stars.

Yelp
Dining at Trocadero Restaurant is a dramatic experience for all of the right reasons. (Yes, that's my cheesy opener!) If the comedy-tragedy masks above the door don't give you a clue, you won't be long inside before you realise that the restaurant is an homage to theatre in general, Irish theatre in particular. Its plush red velvet booths, mirrored walls and antique lamps invoke the magic and glamour of a forgotten theatrical era (and oddly reminded me of how dining on the Orient Express might be). However, the most startling and exciting thing about dining in Trocadero is the quiet presence of so many theatrical celebrities. Granted, these celebrities are staring sultrily down at you from flattering black and white photographs mounted in rows around the restaurant, but their presence is felt nonetheless! Trocadero has been operating for over 50 years now and its aging walls have become a gallery of both forgotten and remembered faces from Irish and international theatre, those who once dined here and those who continue to do so. The main menu is tasty although it is too traditional and a little bit pricey for my tastes. It is dominated by meat and fish dishes including t-bone steak, seabass, rack of lamb and Barbary duck (there is one vegetarian option of gnocchi). I am partial to the bree cranberry starter which has been on offer since my first visit over ten years ago. Main courses range from €19-€32 but the pre-theatre menu is much better value!

Sara P.

Yelp
This place is beautiful, pricey, and not my scene. They had a good wine list, but no beers on tap. The food was expensive and generic steakhouse fare. Based on our experience, this place is for the aging theater crowd.

Sam S.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place so decided to go there for dinner. I can't understand what the fuss is all about ? The food is ok, limited beef choices for what is suppose to be a grill and the service is average. Love the ambience but value for money it is not. Won't be rushing back soon :-)

Melanie M.

Yelp
Opened in 1956 to serve theatre goers this restaurant is so theatrical! Dark red walls, velvet drapes, gelded mirrors, decadent lighting and walls full of old black and white photos of actors this place is a true experience and makes you feel old style glamorous just being here! The staff are professional and ever so friendly and welcoming, and the barman makes and excellent cocktail, try the Mojito, it is perfectly mixed! They offer a pre-theatre menu for €25 served between 5 and 7pm and it is excellent quality food and an unbeatable price for what you get. But there real best is a long lingering dinner from the succulent a la carte menu. The risotto with artichoke and Parmesan is my favourite.

Virgie M.

Yelp
What a gem. We came late night, the food was good, the staff friendly and down to earth, kind, helpful. The atmosphere is warm, nicely lit, and people are talking to strangers, everything just wonderful... Want to come back soon.

Joost V.

Yelp
Great food, superb staff. Trocadero is one of those restaurants with a limited menu, but everything is good. The staff have been around for a long time and know how to serve, advice and make sure that you are comfortable. The fillet is tender and tasty!

Elaine M.

Yelp
Really nice restaurant with a terrific atmosphere. It is a little bit pricey, so the early bird menu is especially good value. Staff are really friendly too. Would recommend it a lot.

Aoife M.

Yelp
It's not the first time I've darkened their door, but previously it was to indulge in the cocktails rather than the food. I rectified this on Friday, taking advantage of their early bird at €27 for 3 courses. I was not disappointed! My salmon starter was exceptional, and very generous, served with a soft grilled brioche and mascarpone I thoroughly enjoyed it, my companion had pate which she loved, and out mains were excellent. Mine a risotto with mushrooms and fresh peas, hearty and generously topped with Parmesan I devoured it, and her hake went down a treat, served with a side of veg that could have fed a family! For desert miss picky pants went off the set menu, which they were happy to accommodate, and ordered a white chocolate mouse which was exceptional. And naturally, to round off our meal, a couple of expresso martinis were in order, if you like 'em, this I the place to get them! Perfection! Exceptional staff and the friendliest maitre de in Dublin, I'll be returning again at the first opportunity!

Yelp
We popped into Trocadero and took advantage of their pre-theatre menu before going onto a show. When compared to the price of their À la carte menu, the pre-theatre is very good value. We arrived into the restaurant and Robert, who I think is the owner, was very friendly and took a real interest in our evening - a lovely touch that set the visit off to a great start. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very professional. Our tables were cleared promptly after each course. There were two particular waiters who seemed rude but our contact with these were minimal so I can't comment on their attitude too much. The food was very good. My steak was slightly overcooked but I'm very particular about steak so this is probably a small problem that other people won't mind. I'd definitely return just for the excellent service and the nice (but not quite amazing) food.

Lee L.

Yelp
Welcome to Mad Men season 2. The red velvet decor and walls lined with celebrity pictures throws you way back in time. We stopped in on a cold and wet afternoon wanting some soup. The butternut squash was nice, if nothing special. We also shared a crab pot starter. The dish missed on the key criteria - good crab. It was otherwise uninteresting. Maybe the mains are better, but we had enough of a mediocre experience to avoid going back.

Jamie R.

Yelp
My hubby and I had a lovely dinner at Trocadero. It was our first night in Dublin, having never been before, and we were recommended this place by a fantastic cab driver! We really enjoyed the ambiance; low light, intimate booths, candles. It was one of our last nights on a two week tour of England, Scotland, and Ireland. And I'm so glad we chose it as our last "date night" meal. Highly recommend!

Darragh D.

Yelp
There are some great restaurants and dining experiences in Dublin and Trocadero is definitely one of them. It's not just about the food (which is delicious) or the prices (which, for the quality of the food, the ambience and the service are very reasonable) or indeed the aforementioned attention of the staff, including the effusively charming maître d' Robert, one of the few remaining Gentlemen in the service industry in Ireland. It's not even about the fantastic wine and drink selection they have or the ability of the waiters to pick, if asked, the perfect wine to go with your meal. Nor is it totally about the decoration - plush red velvet, big seats, photos of famous fans and patrons giving it, as others have described it, that artistic connection and theatrical feel. It's mostly about the experience. This is what's important to me in any place. The welcome at the door, the drink at the bar while awaiting your seat, the friendliness of the waiter, the vibe and atmosphere and the fact that it's run by professionals who are both good at what they do and love it. Highly recommended. ( Tell them Yelp sent you ;-) )

Donal F.

Yelp
A dublin institution, with a pre-theatre menu for €25. As a rare luxury, you can't beat the Troc. The Chicken liver plate and roast sliced breast of duck are beyond words, and the walls really tell a story. Famous Dubliners of times long gone look down on you, and you'll more than likely spot a Montrose face or two around the restaurant! It's slick, sharp and well presented. It's a real eating out experience. Granted, it's not something you'd do weekly, but you could do a lot worse than make the occasional trip. A little bit of luxury never killed anyone. I should say the butternut squash did nothing for anyone, but beyond that the food is mind-blowingly good.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Steak restaurant, really? Wow it was bad, so bad. The server was nice, the decor was camp but fun, but the wine was mediocre and over priced and the food was so just crap. Deep fried brie (yuck!)? Another goat cheese salad with beets? Roasted duck's breast with veg? So many places serve some variation of the same hack and uninspired (left over from the tiger era) menu it's disturbing and this is just one more. Don't waste your money except to maybe sit at the bar and have a cocktail.

Kevin A.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I've been in. Great food. Attentive & friendly service. Good portion sizes. Fantastic value. Beautiful atmosphere. A definite must.

Clare M.

Yelp
Went to Trocadero for a special meal on a Saturday night. We had booked in advance but had to wait for quite a while for our table, after about 5mins we were able to wait at the bar which was better. However the manager was very apologetic and then put us at the best table in the restaurant. From here the staff were very attentive and recommended dishes for the main course. Food was fantastic with the highlight being the chateaubriand steak between two. Nice place to relax for drinks after, yes a bit pricey but great for a special occasion.

David F.

Yelp
Back again. Rereading my last review is pretty much a Groundhog Day experience. O'Neills with my mate Dave for pints. Check. Over to the Troc for nosh. Check. Bottle of Tempranillo. Check. Only this time we both had steaks with all the trimmings. Great. Not Shanahans Great which, in fairness, is in a different league food wise but just what the lads needed nonetheless. The joint was leppin, the service was great. We waddled out onto the street and promised to do it all again before 'The' Christmas.

Erika M.

Yelp
A very nice upscale restaurant in Dublin. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the duck was delightful. Now, let's talk about the dish that made me really love the food; the foie gras and toast points. The foie gras and toast points was down right sinful, It was smooth and tasty and spoke better than my entree. I would certainly go here again if I had a special occasion of event to celebrate. It is not your regular night out type of establishment but it is great for something special.

Kate M.

Yelp
The only time I have ever been to trocadero was before a show in the gaiety and I would think that they do most of their business off their pre-theatre menu. This place is always busy, and I always hear of friends going here every other week. I can understand why. It's quite plus inside, lots of red velvet and photos of Irish 'stars' all over the walls. You'd know it has a big connection with the theatre industry before you even step inside. The food was really very good and their pre theatre menu is really good value. I'd definitely recommend here for a nice meal.

Philip K.

Yelp
Nice place. Quite pricey, but thankfully I wasn't the one paying for the meal! My steak was rarer than I usually get when I ask for medium rare, but was still very nice. Atmosphere was very loud and lively, however I personally prefer a slightly quieter setting when going out to restaurants. It was very busy here, which took our waiters attention away from us (which is understandable), so I feel I didn't quite get the full Trocadero experience. Overall I'd say it was a nice meal, very nice, comfortable and clean restaurant, but I wouldn't put it in my list of favourite places.

Alex M.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this restaurant as it came highly recommended. Unfortunately, I cannot do the same... My steak was very chewy and hard to cut and could barely get through it with a knife. On a good note, the mashed potatoes were great! The service was ok. the lighting was also super yellow and made for a weird ambiance.

S. M.

Yelp
The oldest restaurant in Dublin City that has remained in the same premises. The charm of the maître d' Robert and the great atmosphere are the real attractions.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Came in on the late side. The kitchen would have been within its rights to say too late. Instead, we were seated and treated with courtesy and professionalism and theatricality in the best sense. This place is like Sardi's in New York - a theatre hangout top to bottom. The difference is that the food at Trocadero is excellent! We had rack of lamb and it could not have been better. The service was first-class, too. The maitre'd knew everyone and everything about theatre in general and Dublin theatre in particular. Elegant, top shelf. Could not have had a better evening.

Carolyn W.

Yelp
This is a lovely spot. I arrived in Dublin a day ahead of my husband and wanted to dine at an elegant place where I felt comfortable by myself. This was perfect. My waiter Noel was so wonderful and I ordered a delicious chicken with veggies. It was a perfect dinner!

Janet M.

Yelp
Incredible atmosphere; very nostalgic. Food is expensive and I would rate my meal a 4 on a scale of 1-10. I had a chicken breast meal and it was very dry, almost inedible. My friends had duck and fish....also did not like their meals. We generally left quite disappointed based on how many recommendations we had gotten to go there. The service was terrible.....don't expect drink refills, or to be asked if you need anything else, or to get your check in a timely manner. Disappointing all the way. We also asked for the wi-fi password first thing when we got there. The waiter said he would be right back with it, but never did get it to us. It seemed there was one waiter for about 25 tables. Not a good way to run a restaurant of that caliber.

Jonathan W.

Yelp
I travel a lot alone so dining is a bit challenging. Went in here tonight early so I could have a seat at the bar for dinner. The bartender proceeded to make me feel like a huge nuisance. He got me a drink and then when I ordered he never looked up at me. I was only person at the bar. He never came over to ask if I needed anything else, would I like another drink. Good food but the worst I've been treated at a decent restaurant or any restaurant for that matter.

Phil M.

Yelp
It was a tiny bit run down and the decor on the cheesy side, but the food was fantastic! Wine, steak, salad, potatoes. Just nothing wrong at all. Really great wait-staff too! Funny story: I started to argue with the waiter when the woman I was with asked for more water. In his great Irish accent he said no bother, but, Being that I'm an American dolt, thought he said no butter. The waiter was a good sport and laughed it up with us.

C F.

Yelp
The guy at the entrance is very nice and charming. What a warm welcome! Overall, service is professional. The wine menu and food are, unfortunately, only 'recommendable', but not 'great'. We've had fillet steak at 30 Euros each, which was alright. The champagne (17 Euro/0.1l) was a bit flat and not a great choice (can't remember the winery) at all. Desert wine was too sweet (yes, even a desert wine can be too sweet).Overall we enjoyed our stay. It's definitely one of the better options in Dublin and if you're hungry and just looking for a good place to eat, we'd come back for sure. Maybe trying the other meals next time.

Yelp
With a long waiting list, I was expecting a fabulous meal at this restaurant when we got a reservation and I wasn't disappointed. The food was melt in the mouth! My steak was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a tasteful and well recommended red wine by our server. The manager greeted every single diner personally and made you feel welcome and just that little bit important. A favourite with the theatre crowd, there is a lively buzz about the place which only contributes to a great meal out!

Regina H.

Yelp
the best restaurant at Dublin. Service the best and food perfect. Good location in center Dublin.

Betty M.

Yelp
Love this restaurant best ever steaks, and excellent service . Nothing is too much trouble to any of the lovely staff. Great for a special nite out.

John M.

Yelp
went last night 21 people, staff top class, food was amazing, couldn't find any fault great job and keep it up

John D.

Yelp
We visit Trocadero's every once in a while, and i have to say the that the service has gone out the window. Made a reservation for tonight and when arrived was told to take a seat at the bar and order a drink. Was shown to our seats 20min after the reservation time, and the waiter could care less about jackets or coats "Not a professional move". Another waiter rushed the order through, and im sure left some of the order aside, but was not interested in the least. The meal was OK, and the dessert was awful, cant really say more than that. The service was a real let down, and will not be returning again or will we be recommending to our friends. NOT GOOD..... :(

Yelp
had a fabulous experience at the Trocadero, which is renowned for it's welcome and food. excellent steaks, veggies and wine and the buzz is just fantastic. we were made to feel so at home, and would highly recommend this place to any one visiting the city. absolute loved the banter and the history of the restaurant. also excellent value for money, full marks!!
