My partner and I stayed at Tróia Design Hotel for two nights from Saturday 5th to Monday 7th July, booking directly through the hotel’s website to take advantage of the Deluxe Studio Superior / Short Break Package. While the hotel has some strengths, our overall experience fell short of the five-star standard it claims to offer.||Parking and Location|Underground parking was a positive - it was free, spacious, and easy to access. However, for a hotel positioned as five-star, we were surprised to find there was no valet parking available.||The hotel’s location is attractive, sitting at the tip of the Tróia Peninsula with immediate access to the harbour, a handful of bars and restaurants, and a casino just steps away. That said, the beach is a good 15–20 minute walk from the hotel, which makes the “beachfront property” label somewhat misleading. We had expected the beach to be far closer - ideally within 5 minutes on foot.||Service and Check-In|Staff were generally polite and courteous, but not particularly knowledgeable. The receptionist checking us in was unfamiliar with the details of our booking package, which felt like a missed opportunity to offer a welcoming, informative experience. For instance, we had one evening meal included, yet had to prompt the receptionist to confirm and book it - no effort was made to proactively inform us.||Room and Facilities|Our room was impressively spacious, including the balcony and bathroom - this was a highlight. The bed was king-sized and very comfortable, with quality bed linen and pillows.||However, there were a number of issues that detracted from the overall experience:| • The TV was very small, outdated, and didn’t function.| • The left bedside table blocked one of the wardrobes due to poor layout, requiring us to physically move the table to access the wardrobe - which was baffling, considering the room’s size.| • The bathroom was clean but showed signs of wear, including rust and aged silicone around the shower and bath.| • The kitchenette area was poorly lit and lacked basic items such as plates and utensils - which seemed odd, although not a major issue as we planned to eat out.||Additionally, the hallway carpets were visibly worn in places, with patches where the pattern had worn away. One of the internal lifts was unreliable, once stopping on the first floor and failing to descend - we avoided using it after that, feeling uneasy about the possibility of it breaking down.||Breakfast and Pool Area|Breakfast was very good - a wide variety of hot, fresh options to suit all tastes, and definitely one of the better aspects of our stay.||The pool area, however, was disappointing. The glass panels intended to create an “infinity pool” effect were so dirty that they obstructed the view, and one panel was entirely missing - replaced with wire. This significantly impacted the ambience and visual appeal of the space, and again, is not what one would expect from a five-star hotel.||Overall Impression|While there were elements of our stay we appreciated - such as the room size, comfortable bed, and quality breakfast - the hotel overall did not meet five-star expectations. Maintenance issues, poor attention to detail, and inconsistencies in service contributed to a disappointing experience.||In its current condition, this property feels more aligned with a good four-star rating. It may well have once merited five stars when newly opened, but it’s clear that standards have slipped over time. We’re unsure whether we’d choose to stay here again.
