16 Small Luxury Hotels Around the World Worth Visiting

"This converted sheep farm in Iceland's remote Troll Peninsula is cloaked in black timber and then crowned with a moss-covered roof, so that it can seamlessly blend into its stunning natural surroundings. (You'll even find sheep wandering around the grounds.) The area's rugged terrain is ideal for outdoorsy excursions (from skiing to sea kayaking to whale watching), but 13-suite Deplar Farm has been kitted with modern creature comforts to serve as the ideal post-adventure resting place. Think: Isopod flotation tanks in the spa and a geothermal pool from which to watch the Northern Lights. There's also a small hill out back that can't be touched or removed as local lore has identified it as a potential troll hill." - Travel + Leisure Editors

This was our second tour with Troll Tours in less than a year, and once again they exceeded our expectations! We had the pleasure of exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula with our guide Karina, and she was absolutely amazing. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable about the history, geology, and folklore of the area, but she also had such a warm, fun personality that made the day truly special. The scenery was breathtaking—dramatic coastlines, charming fishing villages, lava fields, and of course, the stunning Snæfellsjökull glacier. Karina made sure we experienced it all while also giving us the perfect balance of guided insights and free time to enjoy the beauty around us. What makes Troll Tours stand out is their personal touch—you never feel rushed, and every detail is taken care of so you can just relax and enjoy the journey. We couldn’t recommend them enough. If you want to experience Iceland in an unforgettable way, Troll Tours is the way to go. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure with them!

So fun ! Our guide was so nice he helped with putting on the 2 suits, gave us some fun facts, and even gave us hot chocolate and a chocolate bar after. What you wear to the meeting point is what you wear under the suit. I would recommend a base layer for pants and long sleeve base layer and warm socks. Maybe it said this in the get your guide booking but I must’ve missed it. We waited a little bit to get into the water due to other groups going but that’s no one’s fault. The water was really cold but you get used to it. The suits are pretty tight but that’s to keep the cold water out. Make sure to drink the water it was delicious ! At the end you get some free time to explore on your own which is also cool. This is the most unique tour I’ve done while traveling. Would definitely recommend

Snorkelling at Silfra was incredible! The water was crystal clear, and swimming between the tectonic plates felt like something out of a movie. Our guide, Vicky, was amazing - super friendly and knowledgeable. She even gave us hot chocolate and a chocolate bar after the snorkelling, and made sure my wife, who didn’t snorkel, got one too. Such a thoughtful touch! :) I’d definitely do this again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland. Amazing experience throughout!

My daughter and I did this amazing tour back in September, but I just now realized I never wrote a review. Hands down the most incredible thing we did during our time in Iceland - if you are at all on the fence about doing it - just BOOK IT! You won't regret it. We were concerned about the cold - it was a non-issue. Troll suited us up so well that we were toasty warm the whole time. Your head and hands get wet, but the rest of you is perfectly warm and dry and you don't feel a thing. I promise. We were concerned about the suit being too tight and panicking - again, non-issue. Yes, it was tight, but not so tight as to feel claustrophobia kick in. It is heavy though, so be prepared to walk a short distance in a heavy suit both before and after the swim. I was mildly concerned because I am not a super strong swimmer - the suit is unbelievably buoyant and there is very little actual swimming that you have to do. It was windy on our day with just a little chop on the water at the end, and I was able to get through it just fine. The actual swim itself was incredible - the visibility was amazing, it almost didn't feel real. You are not in the water for too long (about 45-50 mins or so) but we found it just perfect. I HIGHLY recommend booking the first tour of the day as we did (8:30 am but this may be different at different times of the year depending on the daylight), so that you are one of the first groups in the water. Otherwise, you can be waiting in line for an hour or more for your turn, as only a certain number of swimmers are allowed in at a time. By the time we were walking back from our swim, the line to enter was already pretty long. I had looked at a couple of other companies when trying to decide who to book this tour with, and I am super happy that I chose Troll. They prepared us so well, great equipment, the changing facility was spacious and dry, the pictures were incredible and our guide (Manon) was just amazing. I loved her. She made us feel so comfortable in the water and ensured we were all having a great time. The hot chocolate and chocolate bar treat at the end was an awesome way to finish this experience. 5++ Stars and worth every penny!

We had the pleasure of doing a Silfra snorkeling tour with Augustine as our guide. He was super experienced and capable and did a great job of preparing us for our swim. I Felt really safe going out into the unknown with him and I knew he would have my back if I needed him. He helped me to be a better snorkeler too. We watched him helping other people who weren’t even in our group. As for the snorkeling, it exceeded expectations. The water is so clear and the moss that grows on the rocks is mesmerizing. It’s crazy how deep down you can see. Clearest water of my life! We managed to spot an Artic Char and everyone in our group did really well. You could see how it’s not for everyone, but if you’re adventurous get out there!!

Highly recommended tour! Snorkeling at Silfra was one of the most surreal and unforgettable experiences I’ve ever had — truly unlike anything else on Earth. Where else can you literally swim between two tectonic plates in water so clear it feels like you’re flying? Kudos to the Troll team for making it an extraordinary experience!

Great experience. A must do while in Iceland. The water is crystal clear. The view are stunning. Getting in and out of a Drysuit is an adventure all on its own. Cecilia, our tour guide was great. She was engaging, entertaining and kept us safe I highly recommend troll for this adventure.

Manon was our guide through these furiously cold waters. Troll was by far the most professional, efficient and fun loving group to book through. The online experience was easy, the meet and greet, safety briefing, gearing up and guide experience was fantastic. Wonderful, laughing and conscientious the time with Troll was a wonderful experience. I will definitely use this company for future adventures in Iceland!
