"OCEAN VIEW" IS A LIE!
When my husband called to make reservations, he was told there was an ocean view. There are signs ON THE OFFICE BUILDING stating "Ocean View!" The room we were given (#6) had a TEENSY "view" of the water IF we stood up to look out the window! I spoke to the woman in the office and told her that. She said their "other building" had "better views" and showed us #12. It was little better but bigger, so they "upgraded" us (we had to pay more, of course!). The "view" was better while standing and looking out the window but still it was just a fraction of scenery. Facing the ocean behind this place there is a road and a row of houses on the ocean front! THIS MOTEL IS NOT ON THE OCEAN FRONT AS THEY CLAIM!! Room #6 was laughably cramped and Room #12 had a VERY cramped bathroom and bedroom. Staying here in cold months with the heater on in the bathroom would be dangerous, since sitting on the toilet forces you to have your left leg right up against the heater! This place is old...possibly dating from the 1930s. Lovely hardwood floors but the ENTIRE room was canted at an obvious angle! For someone like me who has mobility issues, it was rather difficult just to walk across the living room to the kitchen without feeling like I might stumble and fall. Also, the floor made a weird noise when it was walked on; it sounded like thousands of little beads were being stepped on. DEFINITELY NOT ADA COMPLIANT, either! There are 1 or 2 steps up from the walkways to a buildings, and the walkways themselves are wooden planks which bounce alarmingly. The walkways in the grass are difficult to maneuver for someone with mobility issues because the ground is very uneven. This place IS pet-friendly, which is why it's not getting just one star. Room #12 has a separate bedroom but you have to go through the bedroom from the living room to get to the TEENSY-TINY bathroom (the shower stall is about the size of a phone booth and it's easy to whack your right arm on the pedestal sink when getting up from the toilet). That room also had a full kitchen complete with dishes, pots, etc. The decor is mostly thrift shop finds from the 1980s with a couple of really nice vintage pieces (the dresser/mirror in the bedroom I coveted!) but a concerted effort was made to make the place look homey. The woman in the office was overly chatty but tried to help about the room problem; she was just an employee, not the manager. If you want a room with a good view of the ocean AS ADVERTISED, go elsewhere! We're NEVER staying here again. I think, when all was said and done, we paid about $140 a night (for our 2 scheduled nights; Sunday & Monday), including the pet fee, for what amounted to a LOUSY "view" of the ocean and was a HUGE disappointment! What a rip-off!
