An exceptional experience!✨🎉 Thanks to our host, Mr. Bjorn, to whom we thank enormously for this facility, we had the honor of having as a guide Mr. Reidar Vollstad, the only survivor who saw the bombing of the Tirpitz ship. A private museum, whose exhibits would make even the richest collectors of historical testimonies envious. Mr. Reidar's stories made us live his experience firsthand. It is living history, which we took full advantage of. A museum not to be missed if you are in Tromso.

Even though the museum is closed for the winter, our email inquiry got a prompt response and a semi-private tour. What an unbelievable experience, from Tirpitz story told by the person who witnessed 32 British Lancasters on their way to deliver the final blow to German prison camps for POWs, which overlaps with our family history. Unique exhibits and unique memorabilia, like plaque made from actual Tirpitz teak ship deck. If you are visiting Tromso while the museum is closed, write to them - info on the website.

Tromsø Forsvarsmuseum is a local military museum with a lot of history to offer. It has a wide variety of WW2 memorabilia, each with a history of their own. The owners of this museum are also filled with knowledge about the war and the items within the museum, so go ahead and ask tons of questions! Though I must warn you, since I myself am Norwegian, haven't checked how well they speak English.

Good place to visit for anyone interested in WW2 in Norway. Payment for museum was with cash only so you'll need local currency.

Especially the Tirpitz part is very rich in artefacts and nicely done. The Defense museum consists mostly of photographs and articles from the newspapers, with a few artefacts.

Opening hours listed on the web are incorrect and the place was closed when we came for a visit. By the look of it there is very limited parking spots and the place look like in a disarray. Overgrown with grass and scrubs. Hardly a place you would expect to accept visitors.

The times written are not correct. I went at 4pm and it was closed.
