Tromsø Mikrobryggeri & Balthazar vinbar

Historic building located in the centre of Tromsø. Mikrobryggeri & Balthazar Vinbar became our favourite destination to spend the long summer evenings. Excellent drink selection, good atmosphere, engaging and helpful bar staff. Beer was sold in 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 litre measures.

Fantastic selection of beers from tasty beers that the general public will love, and all the way to wacky and wonderful beers/meads for enthusiasts and connoisseurs. The barkeeper is very friendly and is a great service provider, he entertained a party of 5 of us for hours and gave great insight into the beverages and culture of Norway. I highly recommend it.

If ever I'm in tromso again, I'm gonna live here. Fantastic brews, great music, totally abusive barkeep (which i love) and ambience to kill for. They just need a bigger bar. Just want to get food here. ... Keep it going. Love you guys .

Amazing people and beers. They were nice to me and got me pleasantly buzzed, and if that's not perfection, then, by golly, tell me what is.

During my visit to Balthazar, I had the pleasure of experiencing not just great beer, but true craftsmanship in curation, thanks to the remarkable taste and knowledge of their in-house sommelier, Ørjan. Every recommendation was a perfect match — from crisp, refreshing lagers to rich, complex stouts — each brew was thoughtfully chosen to highlight both quality and character. It’s clear that the team has an exceptional palate and a deep passion for the craft. What stood out most was the balance between bold choices and subtle elegance. There’s a refined, almost artistic sense of pairing and presentation here that elevates the entire experience beyond what you’d expect from a typical microbrewery. For anyone who appreciates good beer guided by even better taste, this place is a must. Hats off to Ørjan — your good taste makes all the difference!

This was our home away from home, we made sure to swing in every night. Thank you to the staff who put up with us and ordering items a but more time intensive (we truly never minded waiting) and for the one time late visit BUT we were quick as promised. Love this bar & will return whenever if we ever make it back!

Second day in Tromsø and it’s time to search out some craft beers. This is a cracking little locale. Has a good selection of mostly foreign craft beers on tap and bottle. I came only for the beers so cannot comment on the wine. I can’t fault the beer selection and enjoyed the few that I had on my first visit. There was a nice chilled low-key chatty vibe going on my first visit with some great tunes supporting the ambience. Staff were very approachable. I don’t understand a word of Norwegian, but I could listen to the locals speak it all night!

During our stay, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting this wine bar multiple times, and each experience has been better than the last. Sharon, the barista has been nothing short of exceptional—always warm, welcoming, and attentive. Her kindness and great service made each visit feel special, and we truly looked forward to our time here. It's a rare gem, and we can't wait to come back on our next visit. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great service and a lovely atmosphere!"
