Tropical North Car Rentals (Port Douglas)

DO NOT RENT/ HIRE A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY. I rented a car at this place in June 2025. The women who worked at the store front shop was lovely to deal with. The cars are parked in an outdoor lot behind the building. I was given a set of keys and told where to find my car. The car was parked under a tree and covered in bird droppings which I found quite amusing so I took a picture of it. The inside of the car was also vey dirty and had not been cleaned. I had the car for 3 days and about 2 weeks after I dropped it off, I was notified by this company that I was being charged $350 USD (the insurance deductible) for damage to the front of the car. Knowing I did not damage the car, I looked back at the picture I took and sure enough, the damage was clearly shown as pre-existing. I tried several times to contact the company via phone and email to dispute the charge but they never responded so I disputed the claim with my credit card company and was eventually credited the amount charged. DO NOT RENT/ HIRE A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY.

Fantastic rental car company. Best price in Port Douglas and great service. Just needed a car for one day to visit Cairns and Tropical North Car Rentals (Port Douglas) provided a great car at short notice. Would definitely use them again on our next visit to Port Douglas.

It took a few seconds of initial interaction before we knew TNCR was the rental car company we would use during our stay in Port Douglas. Tom is the ideal person to represent a tourist industry: he was informative, helpful, consistent, funny, and caring. Caoinhe (sounds like Keva), his team mate, shared those characteristics completely. Their attitude bought our loyalty; their friendly assistance left a feeling of positivity. These attributes should be deeply appreciated by their company because they were very much appreciated by us, the customers. Thank you .

I travel a lot and renting cars is a part of the package for me. These guys are by far the easiest, most friendly and best priced car rental company I've ever come across. I never thought I'd leave a review for a car rental company but this crew are worth it.

The car was great and the price was the best in town. The only problem I had was getting someone to answer my calls. They are a little out of town and a wonderful lady picked me up, so friendly and welcoming. I when I returned the car I got a shuttle bus back into town. The office shuts at 4 so for a return ride you need the car back at 3.30. I hired last minute as well and the staff were very obliging. If your wanting a car from port Douglas, I would highly recommend these guys.

Tropical North Car Rentals were fantastic - so helpful and kind to me when I needed a car last minute after another car rental cancelled on me on the day. They had a lovely attitude and went above and beyond. It's a great bonus that you can do an out of office hours key drop off.

I hired a car in Port Douglas from this company and they were amazing. So helpful and so easy to work with. I cannot recommend them enough. I will definitely use them again when I am up in Port Douglas.

Can’t recommend this place enough! Two gorgeous Irish staff members working here who went above and beyond for us! Will definitely be back
