Best Sandwiches in Austin | Eater Austin

"North Austin’s Tropicana dishes out pressed Cuban sandwiches that are hot and melty. The Cubano, medianoche, and tortas all start with house-baked bread that gets crisped to order. Juicy pork, smoky ham, and melted Swiss cheese combine to create a hearty, flavorful sandwich. Order a Cuban espresso to finish the meal strong at this festive strip-mall spot. It accepts online orders." - Darcie Duttweiler

The 13 Best Sandwiches In Austin

"The menu at Tropicana is about as classic Cuban as it gets, with croquetas, empanadas, and lechon asado on the menu. That also means this is one of the best spots in town to get a Cuban sandwich. The bread is baked in house before getting toasted and pressed, the ham and pork are tender and juicy, and a generous layer of melted swiss cheese brings it all home. Grab a shot of Cuban espresso while you’re there to keep you awake through the inevitable post-food nap that’s about to hit." - nicolai mccrary

The Best Cuban Sandwiches In Austin

"Tropicana is another spot on our list that bakes their bread in-house, and it was certainly one of our favorite parts of this sandwich. The Cuban here is a little heavier on the ham— we're not complaining—while still managing to pile in quite a bit of roast pork, leading to a very meaty sandwich. Despite all of that, every part of it is packed with flavor. The yuca con mojo here is great, too. We recommend grabbing a side of it to round out your meal. " - nicolai mccrary

Tropicana Cuban Restaurant Review - North Lamar - Austin - The Infatuation

"With a lively dining room and a massive menu that can easily take weeks of daily visits to work through, the restaurant Tropicana in North Austin offers a pretty classic Cuban dining experience similar to what you’d find on any street corner in Miami. The menu spans from bite-sized croquetas and two-bite-sized empanadas, to traditional oxtail stews and a whole, fried tilapia served with fries. You’ll also find lechon asado, masitas de puerco, ropa vieja, and more. In short, if it’s a Cuban dish and you can think of it, Tropicana probably serves it. Start with some breaded and fried fish croquettes, grab a side of caramelized maduros, then choose from over three dozen entrees and sandwiches. And make sure to get a shot of Cuban espresso while you’re there to keep you awake through the inevitable food coma you’ll put yourself through. There’s also a full bar, where you can get pretty standard cocktails, including an almost obligatory mojito or daiquiri to round out the full experience.  " - Nicolai McCrary

Service was attentive, friendly and welcoming. The mojito maracuya was refreshing and strong. The lechon asado and cubano were flavorful. With good amount of meat. The fried red snapper was lightly fried and loved that it was not too greasy or heavy. The patecones and congri were great sides to the main dishes.

It was okay. Not great, not bad. Ambiance was very meh. Service was fast and friendly. Food was good value for the price but I wouldn’t go back.

This is a great restaurant in a great atmosphere. Plenty of space, reggaeton playing on wide screen tv. Delicious food and desserts. Authentic Cuban food prepared fresh and fast.

Visited last year as I was on vacation. This time around I'm a resident. Love the food (who doesn't like Cuban food?). Staffing has a great attitude, the food is as good as your grandma can make. The Cuba Libre was delicious and strong. I highly recommend.

I've eaten at this place a good amount and they never disappoint. I ordered El Cubanito Burger, papa Rellena,Carne Con Papa, Empanadas The burger was massive and packed with the meats and seasoned greatly as the papa rellena looks interesting when first trying it but I love it. I got two empanadas as one was beef and the other was chicken. Not my favorite but it's edible, the Carne con papa is delicious whenever. Next day if you want but I really enjoy it as it comes off as family home cooked meals and such a hardy dish that the meat is tender and flavored right.

I gave this place a higher rating on yelp, but since being overcharged, which I didn't expect after such a nice meal. It appears they're charging gringos more, or they just haven't updated their menus to reflect accurate prices. It was delicious, but think I'll look for another place the next time I have a craving for Cuban.
