Nice hotel in the centre of town. The reception staff were very good indeed and easily sorted out an upgraded room for me. Lovely river view (room 115) . The room was nice and clean, and the only issue was the phone didn’t work. I’m sure it’s now sorted.|Bar staff and restaurant staff were also very good and the service was efficient. Food was OK.|We found the restaurant area rather cold, and despite asking for the heating to be put on, it was the same the second night. We ate in the bar area on the second night and it was fine.

We had such a great time in the restaurant. The food was so good, really tasty, really fresh and well presented. The staff were really friendly and helpful and was overall a fantastic experience. I will be back as soon as I can.

Just had afternoon tea at The Trout. Food was lovely, fresh and plentiful. Even catered to my allergies without a fuss. Staff were amazing and extremely helpful. Very professional and cheerful. The hotel and grounds are amazing. Beautiful views. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Great hotel, great food & location. The reason I have give 3 stars is unfortunately the service has gone down hill. Big time! We booked an evening meal and sat down on time. I got that tired of waiting just for a drink, about 20 minutes, so I decided to go to the bar myself. No body was serving and I waited a least 10 minutes. We were just about to walk out and go somewhere else. Then we got served. We were in the restaurant for nearly 2 hours and all we had was one meal each and one drink. I daren’t ask for another drink. We also asked for extra gravy and it never turned up. Then breakfast next morning. It was very busy and they only had one guy on. He was taking orders, serving & clearing tables. He was running around like a man possessed. My wife felt that sorry for him that she was going to start clearing the tables for him. Then the girl on reception turned up and started helping him. Nothing on the buffet was getting replenished and a lot of people were asking for basics, like juices, fruit & yogurts. People were also having to clear & set their own tables. It was a bit of a shambles really. When we checked out we did complain at reception and she just shrugged it off and said she would tell the manager. We have stayed here 6 times over the years. But I don’t think we will be staying again.

Disappointed, expected better than what was delivered. We spent 3 nights to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, no mention during our visit despite stating in the original booking, reminding on checking in and whilst making reservation for our anniversary dinner. We were NOT made to feel welcome at all.||Very poor customer service from reception staff, not much better in the restaurant. |Bath was very narrow, not very safe, or, comfortable to stand in when showering.|Breakfast was average, not everything was available every day. Room was not serviced after our 2nd night and had to report at reception to get cleaned.

Lovely hotel. I had a large room but other people I stayed with said their room was small. So I guess you have to make sure you get a good sized room by asking. Breakfast fantastic. Ate there twice. Good food. My only criticism is there was no water in the room and the room wasn't cheap.

I have been visiting The Trout for at least 20 years. It has however appeared a little “tired” on recent visits. |On arriving there were no staff at reception; simply a sign saying proceed to the bar for help! This I did and waited five minutes for somebody to appear; this is not very welcoming. |Our executive room (no. 222) at nearly £200 per night unfortunately had the large kitchen extractor fan unit running directly outside the window and this was intrusively loud. Both mornings at 6/6.15am, I was woken by the sound of it switching on; it also remains on all day long. At the other side of the room, there was an intermittent noise that I believed to be a washing unit (?) somewhere in the hotel ground floor. This is unacceptable in an executive room and in my opinion, the room should be offered at a considerably reduced rate and only with the full knowledge of the paying guest. |Our evening meals were delicious however the service was slightly slow…not a major issue but worth noting. Our cooked breakfast was tasty and the perfect portion sizes for my wife and I. I do suspect however, that some guests may well comment that the breakfasts now appear smaller than in previous years. |I shall return to The Trout as it holds a lot of sentimental and happy family memories for me and I sincerely want it to be successful. |I shall however most definitely avoid room 222.

This was a perfect location for my visit (though too short a visit) to Cockermouth. Centrally located, amenities and Wordsworth House nearby. Breakfast was fantastic, the chosen room was spacious and clean. The staff were all polite and friendly. Lastly, the daily rates are very reasonable.

Yelp
This is a great place next to the river with ample free parking. Great to go to Cockermouth for a day out and go in here for lunch. It's pub fair and the likes of fish and chips and the sandwiches are really good quality. It's all fresh and locally produced and you can tell by the quality. It's quite dark inside, but that just adds to the traditional feel, it's lovely to go in here on a cold winters day. Prices are normal, not too cheap - butt you get what you pay for. The staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a visit.

Yelp
really good food. Most of it is locally produced as well. Its a tad more expensive than other places but worth it. Friendly helpful staff a must visit. Nice modern environment
