We stayed on a business trip for a week and a half and we all have to give a BIG thank you to Shannon who went out of her way to accommodate our requirements as we had some early starts in the morning. She did an excellent job on reception, in the bar and at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for her and was always very professional. Thank you again Shannon, you made our difficult stay a pleasure.

We have been staying at the Trout Hotel twice a year for a good number of years. Although a little expensive it has been a nice place to stay, very handy for the Town Centre with good food and a selection of Real Ale.|Not this time , the prices have gone up , there were only a handful of guests staying!|The menu was very limited and there was no Real Ale available at the Bar. The ownership changed early last year and since then All the original staff have left!|There was only one person in Attendance at Breakfast and two in the Dinning room at night. There were over the years plenty of people in the Bar Lounge area who had come in off the street so to speak, not one this time!|Meal wise Breakfast was average to good and in the evening in our opinion the Meals did not meet up to the standards expected for the price paid.|The Bedrooms were clean but with a very limited choice on the tea tray.|Overall we were very disappointed with our stay and wont be returning unless things greatly improve!

the room was spacious and well appointed and overlooked the river derwent. There was ample space to park and the hotel is well located in the centre of the town.||We ate at the hotel and it was excellent food. We all enjoyed the evening immensely, some of our team were surprised by the lovely quality of the food. We were well attended by the hotel staff throughout the evening. ||We will be staying there again very soon

We booked into the Trout in Cockermouth for our Christmas Lunch. It wasn’t cheap but was as a special treat for me this year! I must say the whole experience was fabulous. We were greeted on entry with a complimentary glass of wine and our coats were taken. We were shown to our usual table by the fire (we go there often) . The staff were brilliant and attentive, the food was superbly prepared and tasted delicious and we found everything faultless. I’ve booked again for 2025

Called in for a night cap at 9:30pm on a Saturday evening after a lovely evening meal at Fika. 3 members of staff on reception watched us make our way to the staffless bar. Waited to be served for a good 5 minutes. Ended up going back to reception to ask for service at the bar. Someone eventually turned up, served us and informed us it was cash only as they’d cashed up for the night as the bar closed at 10pm!! On a Saturday? It was 9:45pm at this point. No wonder it was so quiet. What a welcome! Won’t rush back. So disappointing.

Our experience at the Trout was very different from a lot of the other reviews! The bottom line is that this is a good well run hotel! Staff are friendly and helpful, most are locals and those that aren't still OK. Food good, I would recommend the Chicken Supreme. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. Our room was comfortable with a lovely warm and wide bed. Location good and plenty of parking. God willing we will return!

Fantastic meal for a large group. Lovely food. Well organised, excellent service. Not cheap, but worth it. Can't comment on the rooms, as we didn't stay. I have put the rooms as 5 stars, as I didn't want to put them as zero.

Yelp
This is a great place next to the river with ample free parking. Great to go to Cockermouth for a day out and go in here for lunch. It's pub fair and the likes of fish and chips and the sandwiches are really good quality. It's all fresh and locally produced and you can tell by the quality. It's quite dark inside, but that just adds to the traditional feel, it's lovely to go in here on a cold winters day. Prices are normal, not too cheap - butt you get what you pay for. The staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a visit.
