For our honeymoon, my husband and I had originally planned on staying at a resort in Islamorada at $200/night not including resort fees. After a lot of discussion, we decided to cancel our reservations and find a place on Key West. We were so glad to find the Truman Hotel! I was unsure about it at first, because the only way to book was through the hotel's website, but as soon as we walked into our room, it was so worth every penny!
We paid $145 plus tax for a room with a king bed. We stayed in one of the new rooms, and it was quite luxurious and modern. The room was HUGE with super soft sheets, plenty of towels, mini-fridge, large flatscreen TV, and big vanity bathroom. They provided breakfast of pastries, cereals, boiled eggs, coffee, milk, and OJ every morning. Turn down service each night included chocolates and bottle waters. There are lounge areas outside each room, not to mention a really amazing pool, especially at night when it is lit up. Everyone at the hotel was very nice, always asking how our stay was and making sure we had things to do around the Keys. Only downsides were that it wasn't a full service hotel - no room service like food or anything, and one night there were some really late pool occupants making some commotion.
I found the Truman Hotel on travelocity when I was reading reviews for a bed and breakfast. It said something along the lines of "this place is old and musty, if you're looking for something nice, new, clean, and modern, look up the Truman Hotel". There weren't a million reviews like other places on Key West, but it was enough for me to book with them and I am so glad I did!
