"Trunk Bay Often called one of the world's most beautiful beaches, Trunk Bay is a crescent of snow-white sand with a small green islet on the north side of the aquamarine lagoon. Part of the Virgin Islands National Park, Trunk Bay isknown for itsunderwater snorkeling trail. Submerged signs along the trail describe the corals, tropical fish and other marine life found within the bay. Visitors can rent snorkeling gear on the beach, and lifeguards are in attendance."

Stunningly beautiful. Great snorkeling. Not crowded at all really since there are so many choices of beaches. We did get there early-ish. 9 am or so.

Must arrive early! It gets super packed. I recommended renting snorkel gear such as the goggles, snorkel and fins to observe sea creatures with the most unique underwater trail!!

Google
Highly recommend this beach if you are staying in St Thomas or St John. We enjoyed the underwater trail. It took us about an hour to go around the underwater trail. A lot of beautiful and colorful fish. We saw squids, too and small manta ray.

This was by far our favorite beach on our trip to St John. It was definitely a picture perfect paradise! It has food and rentals on site. Also, it has bathrooms and showers. Great for snorkeling too. Cost was $5 per adult and free for kids under 16 years of age.

Google
Trunk Bay There’s a reason this gets called the #1 beach in the world. The sand is powder soft, the water an unreal blue, and the services surrounding the beach (food, drinks, rentals) make for a truly great day trip. The snorkeling was OK but just OK when we were there; the reef looks like it’s still recovering from storms. But decent amount of fish, going down the left side of Trunk Cay (facing the water) is the snorkel trail, water’s a little rougher on the right side but still doable. There’s stuff to see on both sides. Believe it or not the highlight of the day was the tuna bites from the food shack; we ate at most of the good restaurants on St; John the week we were there, and we all agreed that tuna was the best thing we ate the whole time! Not sure how they do it but they are awesome. The drinks are top-notch, probably the best painkiller I had on the island as well. The one drawback to Trunk Bay is parking, which can be downright chaotic. So get there early. We arrived at 9am and the lot was already full. There’s a little bit of road parking, but be very careful you don’t park where others can block you in – because they will. Also don’t park where they say not to –Park Service actually had a boat come by during the afternoon announcing that anyone parked in a no parking zone would be towed.

This beach is gorgeous. There are bathrooms and showers a short walk from the beach front, as well as a food stand and a full service bar and ice cream shop. Parking is pretty limited, but we got there early and found a spot. You can rent chairs, snorkeling gear, and small chair rafts. Amazing snorkeling, saw the biggest school of fish and some stingrays. Something to note, the stingrays do hangout on the shoreline so you have to be careful and comfortable swimming with them.

Look, I get it. People say this is one of the best beaches in the world. Some even throw around "most beautiful beach ever" like they're handing out free coconuts. And don’t get me wrong — it’s stunning. The water is jade green, the cliffs are dramatic, and for a second I thought I had been teleported to Thailand via Instagram portal. BUT. Here’s the twist: by 4pm, the entire beach town goes into witness protection. Shops? Closed. Food? Gone. Drinks? Hope you brought your own rum, Captain. It’s like Cinderella’s curfew but with more humidity and less dancing. You can’t call yourself paradise if I can’t even get a coconut smoothie after 4pm. So yes, it’s beautiful. Breathtaking, even. But you lost a star for going to bed before the sun does.

Spent an amazing time at Trunk Bay! Visitor Information: Trunk Bay has an entrance fee of $4 per person (collected from 8 AM to 4 PM), and it can get busy during peak cruise ship times. Here's what makes Trunk Bay special: Pristine Beach: Trunk Bay boasts a beautiful, gently sloping beach with crystal clear waters and white sand, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Underwater Snorkeling Trail: A unique feature of Trunk Bay is its underwater snorkeling trail, approximately 650 feet long, which guides snorkelers over vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful fish. You can bring your own snorkeling gear or rent it at the beach center. Trunk Cay: A small islet in Trunk Bay, Trunk Cay, offers additional snorkeling opportunities around its rocky cliffs and coral formations. Facilities: Trunk Bay is well-equipped with amenities, including a snack bar, restrooms, showers, and chair rentals. There is also a beach shop where you can rent snorkel gear and purchase souvenirs.

Yelp
Trunk Bay is a must do when in virgin Island national park. We were stopped in st Thomas on a cruise so had super limited time in the park. We realized we only had time to do one "thing" so trunk bay was it. After the ferry ride to St John we then took a van over to trunk bay. What interested us most is that Trunk Bay has the only underwater snorkle trail within the US national park system. We brought our gear and were ready to go. If you need gear you can rent all you need at trunk bay. It is a pristine beach in a national park and they do not have vendors and things on the beach. There is a small snack shake a 5 min walk from the beach with lots of cocktails and bites. The bay itself was beautiful. White sand and water so blue it made your eyes hurt. From the sand you can walk directly into the bay and snorkle the trail. There are buoys to keep you in the .25 loop. The snorkel trail was cool but a little small. There were placards on sea floor with informative info on the reef and wildlife. We were there 90 mins and snorkled the trail twice, had a little beach time and got a frozen bev at the snack shack. An amazing place that can't be missed when in USVI National Park

Yelp
We made the trip from St. Thomas. Ferry ride was only $8. About 15 mins. Took a taxi $9 pp on a nice ride to the beach. Then had to pay to get in. Rented the chairs $10. Found a nice spot and had a glorious day. We were unable to snorkel bc the conditions were too wavy but we still had a tremendous day at the beach. Highly recommend going here. It was beautiful.

Yelp
Still the favorite spot of the family! The water is so clear with a soft sand bottom that it's like a swimming pool. Several rays swam along the beach on our visits, so it was really neat to see them up close in shallow water. We even saw a nurse shark this time! Soooo many fish! And the bartenders we had that week were phenomenal and made the best BBCs I have ever had.

Yelp
This is rightfully known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! It has absolutely amazing views, perfect white sands, and beautiful blue waters. With a small rocky cay only about 200 feet off the beach, the snorkeling is amazing with tons of aquatic life. We even saw a 3-foot ray hovering around the sandy wading area in 2 feet of water. The underwater snorkel trail around the cay is a nice little feature which provides information about the habitat and aquatic life. It gets crowded after 11am, so getting there early is a good idea to if you need to get parking and a good spot on the beach. Parking is ridiculously limited. But there's plenty of space on the beach despite it being relatively narrow. The scene is pretty laid back with lots of families. There were no crazy party animals when we were there fortunately. Parking is indeed a challenge. We took an 11am ferry from Red Hook, and by the time we got there, all the parking was taken. There are probably only about 20 spots in the lot. We ended up parking up the hill in the side of the road about a quarter mile away. Not ideal, but worth the hike! They have a real nice snack shack for drinks (beer, cocktails, sodas, teas, water, etc.), gifts, and pub grub (burgers, sandwiches, snacks, etc.). They also have large and very well maintained restroom and shower facilities. You can rinse the sand off yourself, and they have places to clean your snorkel gear. They also rent snorkel gear if you don't have your own. This was our third time coming back to Trunk Bay. The next time we come back to the islands, it will definitely be on our list of destinations!

Yelp
Voted the best beach in the world on several travel sites and they are correct. Easily the best beach I've ever been to. The bluest water, the best snorkeling and the whitest sand. If you're looking for an incredible beach experience this is the one. We took the ferry over from St. Thomas and rented a taxi. I would advise doing this, others in our party took their vehicle over and there was no parking for the beach so they had to find another beach. There is a snorkel trail that is marked by buoys. We did it it was ok. The real show is at the reef the best marine life we saw on our trip was at the reef to the right of the trail. Don't forget your snorkel and fins. The beach is the only beach that cost money, 5 dollars per adult. This is a don't miss opportunity to snorkel one of the best beaches in the world. The shack that sells burgers and things was really good eats, as well. Don't forget a go pro the best videos you will take here. Also a spot under the vegetation like pictured to get relief form the sun.

Yelp
A must-stop while visiting St. John & the Virgin Islands National Park. This beach is absolutely beautiful and is set-up so you can spend an entire day here without ever leaving. Plenty of beaches with water that's perfect for relaxing, swimming, and snorkeling. The water is the clearest water I've ever experienced - which is perfect for snorkeling and experiencing the underwater snorkel trail. My favorite beach while visiting USVI NP. Besides the beach, Trunk Bay is set up with a stand that rents out snorkel gear as well as lockers to store your belongings, multiple bathrooms, a small food shack, a small bar, and a little souvenir shop. It's also directly on the main taxi path, and many taxis are stationed in their parking lot, so it's easy to get there as well as get a ride back. This beach gets very busy, especially on days that cruise ships are docked in the area, so be prepared to get their early or have to look for a spot. That being said, there's a reason it gets so busy, and it's well-worth the stop.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful, secluded, charming beaches in the world!!! I highly recommend !

Yelp
Our goto beach on St John. 5 dollar entry. Beautiful clean beaches. Crowds fade away around 4pm when facilities close and cruise tourists need to get back to ship.

Yelp
Excellent beach, most beautiful in the world. Clear water, soft sand, great snorkeling, just overall has everything you'd ever want. We will return here.

Yelp
After my visit, Trunk Bay is one of my favorite beaches! $5 per person to enter this National Park area. You just cannot beat the beautiful sand, endless views, rocky backdrop, and perfect waters. On either side of the beach are more rocky areas that are great for snorkeling. There are food and restroom options but they are tucked a little farther back (not right along the shore) which helps keep the beach itself more peaceful in my opinion. It is a very popular beach though, so my recommendation is to come early before the crowds come in.

Yelp
Trunk bay really should be called Turtle beach. We saw so many turtles here in the grassy areas. It is a low key beach and not crowded. There is also a food truck across the street. No rentals for anything so you will need to bring chairs, umbrellas, etc if needed. Also not too many shady spots. Great area for beginning snorkelers.

Yelp
One of the best beaches I have experienced in the world. This beach has everything you would want in a tropical beach experience. Clean, fine white sand and see through water. There are no shells or rocks for the most part so you won't have to worry about the soles of your feet. The sand of this beach is among the very best I have experienced in my travels. Thick layers of fine white sand more than a foot deep. It is the type that you want to run your feet through all day. It is soft and free of shells and other debris. Find yourself a mound of the shifty stuff and take a nap -- oh so comfortable!!!. The water a see-through turquoise color and is excellent. The depth increases gradually and the sand underneath is clean and free of shells. It is an excellent beach for families. One excellent part of this beach are the food stands and the bar that serves alcoholic. There is a good selection among the 3 food huts. Parking is decent -- there is a parking lot with a good amount of parking,

Yelp
This is of course the touristy beach on the island, and the only one that charges an admission fee. That said, you should arrive early (9am) to get a parking spot. We tried one day getting there around 10am and there were no more spots, even on the street. So we came back another day around 9am and the lot was full, but we were able to get a street spot. There was no one in the booth when we arrived so we just walked in. The beach itself is beautiful of course and the underwater snorkel trail was unique and awesome! We were able to get a spot under a tree with nice shade. The beach is long and worth the walk up and down. We were away from the snorkel trail area, which is to the right if you are looking at the water. This was a wise choice as it did get crowded near there. However, the food was also at that end so we had to walk a bit to get some. We ended up staying the whole day here (didn't do that at any other beach on St. John). This is a can't miss!

Yelp
Trunk Bay Beach is one of my favorite beaches at the USVI. It's a busy beach, so get here early if you want a good spot and parking. The lot fills up fast. It's also a safe beach. We saw park ranger out. The people were super friendly. Our stuff was safe. The beach and sea was beautiful. The best coral and most beautiful and colorful fish are at this beach. There are also sea turtles here. The swimming is great. I swam across this bay several times.

Yelp
For the most part, Trunk Bay gets 5 stars from me. Getting straight to the point, what really impressed me about this beach....were the views from above! While driving along North Shore Road (the main centerpiece road) to get here and around the island of St. John and Virgin Islands National Park.....there were 2 primary overlooks that featured the immaculate turquoise blue waters of Trunk Bay!!!! First off, from the short hike up Peace Hill (the sign for this cannot be missed off the side of the road) the views here gazing down upon the glorious colors of Trunk Bay absolutely blew me away!!! I was in awe of the indescribable blue waters and white sands. Lol....I thought images from here only existed on the Internet or in the movies!? I spent a good 45 minutes from Peace Hill soaking up the scenery of Trunk Bay! Also, just before arriving at Trunk Bay.....there's another quick roadside overlook (not named anything, it's just there) on the left hand side where you can pull your car off the road and get out for glorious views and pictures!!! Yeah....this stopping point is a must for everyone! I'd say it's maybe 1 mile before arriving at Trunk Bay. But what really amazed me was how from this simple road-stop area, the waters of Trunk Bay were so wonderfully clear and blue! I swear like immaculately out of a postcard! Here I stopped for another 15 minutes, sat down on the ledge and gazed out onto Trunk Bay. Lol...it was like a miracle! I couldn't believe how fortunate I was to be immersed in such wonderful beauty!!! I was extremely grateful for both of these roadside stops and panoramic vistas situated right along North Shore Road! Arriving at Trunk Bay....it's probably the most popular beach to come and visit in Virgin Islands NP. Parking is $5....whatever....that means nothing. But....it is difficult to find parking. The lot is small and Trunk Bay is busy! I visited twice here and lucky lucky luckily found parking both times. Actually, my first day I came in early afternoon and parked in a taxi stand spot. Oh well, I was warned not to do it again when I left. My second day visit I showed up early 9am in the morning and had no issues getting a parking spot. My only maybe slight disappointment in Trunk Bay was that upon getting to the sand and waters here.....the clear blue views that I witnessed from the overlooks weren't the same upon confronting the beach in person. Especially when the sun sometimes went behind the clouds. The appearance wasn't nearly as picturesque as compared to what I peered down upon from North Shore Road. So.....this was the only aspect about Trunk Bay that sort of let me down. Otherwise, once the clouds departed I was able to better enjoy the clear, majestic waters better....but again nothing beat the appearance of Trunk Bay from the road overlooks!!! For sure! Although the parking lot area was busy....there was plenty of room to spread out along the beach. I was able to put my stuff down, relax and hop into the waters without being on top of other people. That was a good aspect. And....Trunk Bay was only maybe less than 1 mile long in distance. Yet, I felt like I had my own personal space. As long as the sun was out in full force, the waters were charming enough to appreciate from eye level. After visiting Trunk Bay for 1 - 2 hours....(I'm not really the type to just veg out and sleep on the beach all day long) I hopped back in my rental car and just down the road a few more kilometers away was scenic Cinnamon Bay and Maho Bay beaches. Also along with Hawksnest Beach as well, I'd say these 4 primary spots were all on the same level appearance wise.....certainly the prettiest and most scenic beaches in Virgin Islands NP and St. John. And....they were all located within a short distance from each other. In all, you can't go wrong with whatever beach you choose.

Yelp
People keep asking what it's like now: What's it like 13 months after this area was struck by two category 5 hurricanes each with wind speeds topping 180MPH within two weeks of each other? Short answer: The beaches are fine. Longer answer: Many buildings have no roofs, many more are uninhabitable for other reasons, there's a lot of clean-up still underway, the residents who lived through it experienced significant trauma, and it'll be years before the region has fully recovered. But the beaches are fine. More than fine, actually; beautiful, stunning, free of debris/Sargassum Seaweed, warm, clean, and irresistible. Trunk Bay is probably the most beautiful big beach on St. John. Sandwiched between the charming and intimate Hawksnest Beach and the larger Cinnamon Bay, Trunk Bay is the only one of the three sporting an underwater snorkeling trail*. There's not much shade to be found here (and no lifeguards on a Sunday) but it hardly mattered as the water itself was a siren song calling me back in repeatedly. There's little better for the head than lolling in warm blue waters for an entire day. Trunk Bay is free to enter. It also offers free parking, restrooms, showers and, on the day of my visit, some beach gear for rent (no chaise lounges). By contrast, Cinnamon Bay is a ghost town replete with building after building destroyed by the force of the hurricanes. The beach itself is good though. Priorities in the USVI are in order. There's currently no food or drink for sale at St John beaches so stock up on what you'll need before heading there. The beach officially closes at 4 p.m. but all that's really closed at that time is the showers and restrooms; stay as long as you wish in that water but, if you need to get back to St Thomas, be mindful of the time of the final ferry run of the day**. * Snorkeling not allowed the day of my visit due to (not very) "rough" water. ** I took the car ferry over from St Thomas at a cost of $53 round trip. If you arrive by foot ferry you'll need to taxi to and from Trunk Bay.

Yelp
Trunk Bay is by far my most favorite beach! I used to love Magen's Bay but Trunk Bay really WOW'd me this trip. We went twice, once was early in the morning and not a single person other than us was there. It was pure serenity. The sand is soft white and the water is crystal clear. The second time we went it was around 11am and it was super packed by the time we left at around 2pm. We did try their drinks and food and it was pretty good as well. Trunk Bay will always be my go to beach on St. John.

Yelp
Nice beach! This was recommended per the resort as one of the best beaches to go to. I would like to know what factors played into that determination. To me, it was nice, clean, and well managed. But it was a bit too crowded. Nonetheless, this was our last beach stop of the day and it was time well spent. I would definitely say add this to the list to see. They have a bar in the back along with a rental department for activities.

Jose N.

Yelp
This place is great, beautiful beach, it does cost you $5 bucks to get in. But the beach is great, beautiful sandy beach. (This is what I pictured in my mind of a white sandy beach.) Go snorkeling here, very easy and beautiful, peaceful. Go get your spot early, parking is limited. We got there at 8:30 and found one parking spot , the beach has small trees for shade, but they go quickly. There is a resting area for turtles, but we didn't see any. After snorkeling, I kicked back an took a snooze. There is a bar, a store and clean restrooms.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Trunk Bay is part of the Virgin Islands National Park. It costs $5.00 per person to visit and opens at 8am. What you receive in return is a beautiful white sand beach with bathroom facilities, lifeguard and a self guided underwater snorkeling trail of reefs. Exploring the coral and sea life is very enjoyable and educational. It gets crowded with most people sticking around the snorkeling trail. If you want more seclusion go further down the beach and the crowds will thin out.

Yelp
Excellent snorkeling and a beautiful beach! There are some reefs and fish but watch out for the jellyfish!

Starry V.

Yelp
So good! This is a beautiful VI beach with good snorkeling (or what passes for it now with Climate Change--the difference in snorkeling everywhere in the VI from what it was a couple of decades ago is so depressing) and not crowded, assuming you avoid cruise ship days, which of course you would if you have any sense! lol! Good rental equipment and nice, easy-going attendants. Didn't even ask for my receipt when I turned in our stuff at the end of the day, just asked for my name and handed me back my license. They worked hard at sterilizing equipment between renters and took time to instruct us in proper mask clearing technique. And the beach itself is unmatched-gorgeous! We even found a tiny bit of shade to sit under when we weren't actually in the water. 5 stars!
google avatar

Jess C.

Yelp
Although it's considered one of the top ten worlds best beaches, we were sat somewhere that was covered with ants and had lots of rocks closer to the shade. If you move closer to the water there are fewer ants and rocks but instead you may find washed up coral. The water was pristine and it wasn't too crowded because we picked a day where there weren't too many cruise ships coming in. Thank you USVI website for providing this crucial info! We were going to snorkel but the water was too rough that day and apparently some other more experienced snorkelers said there was not much to see and that the best spot was by far near Annaberg sugar plantation. Although this and Maho Bay are catered to more beginner snorkelers, the water was too rough at both these sites. I also wished I had brought my own which would have been more convenient since most rental places close at 330/430PM on site.
google avatar

Carlisle J.

Yelp
My favorite snorkeling beach. There is an underwater snorkel trail and a beautiful coral reef to the left of the beach. Not much current and tons of beautiful tropical fish on the reef. Bathrooms, showers, parking, and food are all available.
google avatar

Katie E.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous beach! St. John has some of the prettiest beaches I've been to and they don't disappoint. Theres no beating the views or the clear water. The beach was really clean and not overly crowded, especially for fourth of July. Everyone was respectful and we had a great time! They have a stand nearby where you can rent chairs and snorkel equipment. They do rent out pretty quickly and have to be returned by 4 so we weren't able to rent any. There are also bathrooms nearby but they close at 3 which seemed a little odd to us, but it is part of a national park. We were able to go to the snack stand and get nachos and hotdogs and drinks. The hotdogs were great and the nachos were average but we didn't expect great food at a little beach shack. If you're staying on St. John it's a great beach to go to! I'd also do a day trip on a boat from St. Thomas. If you're coming from St. Thomas on the ferry, I'm not sure it's worth it. I'd say St. John has prettier beaches then St. Thomas, but it's a lot of effort to taxi to the ferry, take the ferry and then taxi to the beach and back again. It takes away a good portion of the day and St. Thomas does still have pretty beaches. But if you're in the area it's a great beach!

Yelp
We arrived at this beach for a visit around 9:15 during the busy holiday week (they open at 7:30). At that time of day we were ahead of most people and after paying the $5 pp entrance fee (cash or credit) we headed in. First stop was the gear shop just inside were we rented snorkel gear ($10 pp cash or credit plus $50 deposit) where we met James who was super cheerful and helped us out right away. You can also rent chairs $8 if you didn't bring your own-much more comfortable than a towel on the soft fine sand. Next on to the beach. At that time of the day we had our pick of spots and walked left quite a ways down. The beach was still all in shade which was great. We chose a spot in front of some large palm trees so had shade until just past noon which was perfect for our light northern skin. We headed out for a snorkel, and even in late December the water was very nice, clear and relatively warm. They've got this weird underwater snorkel trail you can do but we ignored that and just headed out along the rocks and saw a nice variety of fish large and small as well as interesting coral formations. We were getting hungry so about 11:15 we walked up to the snack bar (just over from the bathrooms and showers) and ordered burgers and hot dogs and a couple of diet cokes-around $50 for lunch for four. A bit of a wait but it's a small operation so be patient-remember you are on vacation! By the time we left around 1, the beach was pretty crowded-not spring break in Cancun crowded, more like 4th of July crowded-although less so at the farther ends (most people carting chairs, towels, coolers and not wanting to walk far I guess). Reminder: NO SMOKING is allowed and no beverages in glass (they will check your cooler on the way in) Beautiful sand, clear warm water, great people watching-what's not to like-unless you arrive at noon! Enjoy.

Yelp
Where do I even start? Trunk Bay has been on my bucket list for years. This beach is exactly as everyone describes it - like paradise. It's easily one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. We caught sight of a few small fish and even two large stingrays, not to mention dolphins and a random deer strolling along the shoreline. We paid $5 for admission, though we had anticipated free entry with our military IDs, that perk turned out to be discounted. Finding parking was a bit of a challenge, but we were kindly allowed to park near the road. The locals suggested arriving early to secure a spot. Fortunately, they have showers and bathroom facilities for getting rid of sand, which was a lifesaver. Other amenities are available too, like a small restaurant, bar, and equipment rental spot. I'd recommend bringing your own snacks to avoid the steep prices. And if you're looking to escape the sun, there are some great shaded areas too

Yelp
This beach is pretty large and pretty crowded. There seems to be a lot of natl park facilities bc I think it might be a cruise ship destination. It was very windy and when win comes out of north you are right into the wind. Lots of flying sand. With all of that said the snorkeling was best here of entire trip. There is an underwater trail and a small island to snorkel around. Many many types of fish.
google avatar

George G.

Yelp
Landed on St. Johns today for the first time and I must say that if paradise on earth exists...I saw it today. I went to a couple beaches and from what I saw I need to go back and see more. This beach here is absolutely amazing. I will post a couple pics but they will not do it justice. It is simply breathtaking. This beach here...clean, great sand, perfect clear blue water and some of the best snorkeling to be found. There is an admission fee of 5.00 but for some reason, the ticket booth was closed when we went. Not complaining. The snorkeling is a must-do. They have a coral reef with a snorkeling trail and you will be inside the best tropical fish tank you have ever seen. No need to bring equipment as they have a rental as soon as you walk into the park(this is national parkland)/beach. Definitely, pay the extra 5 bucks and go with the full face mask option. This and the fins will set you back 20 bucks. When you get off the ferry it is a trek and not advisable. You will need to take a taxi, rent one of the jeeps (75.00 for the day), or hitchhike. The last option is the norm on this island. Or maybe you will get lucky as we did and get offered a ride from a stranger while asking for directions. Any way you choose to get there...just get there. You will be very happy.

Yelp
Trunk Bay is one of the most amazing beaches I've ever been to in the Caribbean!! Don't forget to bring your snorkeling equipment. The waters are pristine aqua and teal! The white sand is like stepping into brown sugar. There are no shells or rocks on the beach. The waves are pretty calm due to Trunk Cay (that huge rock/island in the middle of the bay). Trunk Bay has an amazing snorkeling trail called "Coral Reef Underwater Park Trail" you can see lots of aquatic life. Remember DO NOT STEP ON THE CORAL WITH YOUR FINS! You will kill them! Lifeguards will remind you to keep swimming, and if you need help to wave to them. You are only allowed to snorkel to the left of Trunk Cay, as the waters are rough on the other side. There are lifeguards overlooking the area. I would recommend you visit this beach at least once, if you are on St. John!

Yelp
Beautiful beach!! The views on the ride to the beach were amazing. It's $5 per person to get in. This beach has showed and bathrooms as well as a good and drink area. Nothing beats the beaches in the Caribbean.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were on St John yesterday and we had to stop at Trunk Bay. BEAUTIFUL!! The water was crystal clear and the beach pristine. I thought Magens Bay was great... Trunk Bay trumps Magens Bay. There is an 5 dollar admission fee to get in an if I remember they do except credit cards. There is parking but I recommend you get there early because it does fill up especially when there is a cruise ship in town. If you get hungry or want to have a libation, Trunk Bay does have food and drinks which includes alcohol. I strongly suggest visiting Trunk Bay. It's spectacular. Oh quick note... there is no life guard on duty so be careful. Luckily it's not that deep. Oh ... I forgot... bring your make and snorkel because the Maine life is spectacular! Lots of fish. Will be back!!

Yelp
Nice Swimming Beach Area! Underwater Signs Describing Sea Life! This is one of my favorite beaches on the island. There is a little island of the beach a ways you can swim around and read the underwater signs describing the sea life. There are often LOTS of people here which drives some of the marine life away. I ended up swimming a half mile or so up the coast and literally ran into my first shark! Scared the heck out of me since I didn't see it until I was 12" away or so and it shot our from the rocks. Apparently we scared each other! Mellow currents and nice warm waters here make for good free diving or snorkeling... This is a good spot to spend the day. PS: Get here early if you want parking!

Yelp
Excursion booked on Norwegian Escape These excursions basically all present themselves in a perfect world when glancing at adverts and reading captions from other people who have visited. Due to the region, your internet connection might not be working well enough to establish connection and seek other non-biased opinions. I'm glad we rolled the dice on this one because everything from boarding a commercial boat vessel with attentive staff navigating across a short distance via the St Thomas channel to St John (Cruz Bay) we arrived safely. Quickly boarded a tourist safari type bus and continued our journey along North Shore Drive. The scenery is just simply pure virgin and majestic with so many remote beaches in route to Trunk Bay. Of course having gained elevation on our path and descending to Trunk Bay really sets the pace as your heart starts to race in anticipation. Trunk Bay is a registered national park and is heavily regulated by the US government. You won't have to deal with hagglers and pan handling as access to bay is strictly limited. To access the beach, you'll have to get oriented by a park employee who will go over public use of beach. Respect the beauty and limit your trash to designated trash cans, obey signs as to where you can snorkel. Even though the calm turquoise flat ocean water is calm and shallow, your inner child wants to go beyond and swim further out. Lifeguard is on duty at all times. Amenities available are restrooms, changing stations, showers, lockers, snacks/drinks and a hot grill serving fast food. Grab yourself snorkel equipment and seek everyone's favorite friend, a turtle(s) lurking out there being friendly. Of course depending on what day you access the park, you can expect to find heavy crowds for a short duration during the day since everyone is on a limited time schedule like us. I can only imagine once visitors from nearby ships docked at St. Thomas are gone, all of these beaches along N. Shore Drive can be therapeutic for anyone making a full day or perhaps a full week. PRESTINE We had the pleasure to visit (3) ports and St. Thomas along with St. John are definitely on the radar for a 2nd return trip to the region and fully grasp the natural tranquility. Disclaimer: my review is based on visiting during the month of December. FYI - sunscreen was used :) Pura vida :)

Yelp
Ahhhhhh man, it really pains me to do this to my absolute favorite beach in the world, but I gotta drop a star. The cost to get here has gotten really damn pricey! If you're coming from St. Thomas (day trip to St. John), updated fees per adult as of April 2016: - Ferry ride from Waterfront STT: $13 each way (cash only) ~OR~ - Ferry ride from Redhook STT: $7 each way (cash only) - Maxi Taxi to Truck Bay: $6 each way (cash only) - Beach entrance: $5 (cash or card). You do the math, but let me highlight again that's PER ADULT. I feel sorry for these big ass families or those with kids! That doesn't include if you want to eat/drink or do any activities while you're there. That's one expensive ass beach trip LOL. It is worth it though, I promise you that sand and water is worth it at least once in a lifetime. Just don't be surprised at the cost to experience paradise.

Yelp
We visited 5 beaches between St. Thomas and St. John and this was our favorite!! It might be because we were lucky and got a beautiful weather day! The sand is so soft and the water was like pool water. They have bathroom facilities and chair/snorkel rentals as well. I wish we could have come back another day to this beach. Absolutely beautiful.

Yelp
Absolutely as gorgeous as I remembered. Calm and just so relaxing. Bf was sick so we didn't get to enjoy the underwater snorkeling trail :( but it was nice being here for a while on our last day in usvi. Definitely our fave on the US side :) It's too bad the facilities are shut off at 4pm or so...if you need to rinse or use the bathroom after this? you're out of luck...so plan ahead

Yelp
Best beach I've been to here at USVI. My wife and I visited maybe 6-7 beaches (there's waaaayyyy more) but this public beach was the cleanest with the clearest water with no seaweed or rocks in sight. There is a mini island about 100ish yards from the beachfront that u can snorkel in and there's a ton of fish. It is a national park so restrooms, showers and food/drink are available and relatively well kept. There is a $5 entrance fee per person and plenty of taxis to get you from cruz bay to this beach and back

Yelp
Such a beautiful beach! Plenty of wildlife to see. Bring snorkel gear. We saw two stingrays, a sea turtle, and many fish during our snorkel. This seems like a busy, party beach so pack a beach tent and a cooler with some drinks to join in on the fun!

Yelp
This beach has to be one of my favorite. The water is crystal clear, white sand and you have access to a snack shop and drinks. Perfect place to relax.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We have been coming to this beach since we got married on it twenty years ago and it never gets old.

Yelp
Most beautiful beach on St. John? Probably. It's too far to hike to I think, since it wasn't included on the national park trail maps. We took a taxi here from the Cruz Bay ferry dock and it was $6 per person, each way. It was a pretty steep, curvy, nauseating trip for me but also very short. Maybe 5 minutes. Tons of taxis parked here to take visitors to and from wherever they wanted to go. This beach cost $5 to get in, had facilities like bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, rental area and lots of beauty! The grounds were well taken care of, and they also had some lifeguards who booked out pretty early as well. Very little shade offered on this beach, no free chairs and no picnic tables either. We wanted to rent some chairs, which were $8 per chair with a $25 deposit. We only got to enjoy the chairs for an hour and 15 minutes since you have to return the chairs to the rental area by 3pm! I tell ya, everything closes up way too early on these islands. Even the bar and snack bar closed up early by 3 or 4pm. They shut off the water to the bathrooms and showers and lock up the bathrooms at 4:30pm sharp. It's free to get in after 4:30pm, but you will have to leave with a sandy butt since the water is shut off. Even most of the taxis were gone by 4:30pm, except for 2. The best part? The beach. That view. The snorkeling "trail." Lots to see for snorkeling here. Tons of sting rays, sea urchins, and exotic fish. It was the most crowded beach of the trip due to 3 cruise ships docked at St. Thomas that day, but it was worth it. Most of the cruise ship people were gone by 4pm anyway. Aside from the early closings, this beach is worth it for the natural beauty and amazing snorkeling. I never wanted to leave.

Yelp
Trunk bay was on of the highlights of our trip. It is part of a national park so there is a $5 per person entry fee but it is well worth it. The beach is long and is not over crowded. You can rent snorkels if you need them and there is a very cool under water trail with signs that give you fun facts about the sea life you see. The employees at the bar and small restaurant at the beach were friendly as well. Over all one of the best beaches on our stay at the Virgin Islands.

Yelp
Breathtaking from the view above (ask taxi driver to stop for a photo op) and very clean and beautiful beach to spend the day, or just a few hours. $5 entry per person. Water is clear and warm with no large waves. Facilities are available, as well as chair and snorkel rentals. There's a bar, small gift shop, and snack bar (hamburger with chips $15). If you're afraid of birds, and if you're eating, make sure you sit under an umbrella. They will dive bomb! Be sure to bring your camera (and some bug spray!)

Yelp
This is a MUST SEE when on St. John's. $5 admission and limited parking (consider taking a cab instead of driving). There are showers and restrooms that do shut down at some point during the day (the park officer will let you know when), a snack truck and a bar. Powder beaches where you can see clear to the bottom of the ocean 20 feet below. Gorgeous.

Yelp
Absolutely the most beautiful beach we've been to on this trip. Crystal clear water, white sand a great reef to snorkel and explore. We saw lots of beautiful fish and even saw a sting ray!!!! You definitely should check it out when you come to Saint John!!!!

Mark A.

Yelp
super rude ranger and no parking, came back, no parking, was able to go to the next part of the bay but swimming and snorkeling was crap. Pretty picture of the bay from the road and that's enough, I'd not go back or waste my time to even visit the rude people in the national park again.

Yelp
Amazing blue water and great snorkeling. Best beach on St John. Take a ferry from Red Hook to Cruz Bay for $7 and a $6 cab ride gets you there. There is also a $5 entrance per person. Facilities are nice with showers and toilets but they close at 4.30pm.
