Very beautiful view from the fortress. For a desk rat as I am, the climb up towards the church was pretty difficult. I god there all red and grasping for air😂 But once you reach there you cannot be happy and accomplished about yourself. Entrance fee was 15 leva per person.

Great for exploring on a cloudy day. Don’t forget to visit the tower above the small gate for a bit of fun. It took us about 2-3 hours to go around the whole place at a leisurely pace, reading all the signs and stopping for a coffee at the vending machines near the palace. Would visit again, for sure

You need at least 2 hours to visit. Nice view. I didn't find a map and a written guide at ticket store or gift store. Toilet inside is cash only 1 Lev.

Absolutely perfect! Must go! I visited it on Saturday and it was great! Medieval walls, buildings and towers are not the only thing there. Great views, a little exercise and lots of fun activities like archery and coinmaking. There isnt much food except the ice-cream stand so I recommend bringing your own snacks but still very fun. If you are looking for a lazy walk with great views or a fun hike this is the place for you!

Fantastic views of Veliko Tarnovo from the Fortress but for a spectacular view take the lift up the tower. The church was decorated in very deep and meaningful artwork representing struggles of Bulgaria on the walls. There are speakers placed at various historical points within the fortress that tell you in Bulgarian and English the history of a military building, church, home or trade. The most fascinating was the execution site. Although nothing visible you can almost feel the anxiety and tension in the air of what it would have been like hundred(s) of years ago of the person being executed and the spectators! Don’t forget to watch at night the light and sound show.

Worth the visit if you are in the area. The fortress has a nice history and is well preserved. The ticket is quite expensive (about 9 USD at the time of my visit) but I think it's worth the visit overall.

Quite pricey to enter. Not enough information about the different areas when you get to them. There’s the odd random information on loud speaker that comes on intermittently in different areas whether there is anyone there or not. Be useful to access the voice recordings when you get to a spot and want to find out more on the background. Apart from that it’s an interesting place with great views of Veliko Tarnovo.

Was expecting to see something more. You enter and see some stones and at top of the hill a Church look alike building. Painting is interesting up in that church kind of a building, a different interpretation for an orthodox church. Those paintings made me give the 3 starts, otherwise lost time to get in there. Lots of things that don't belong in there, trash and kitsch. Ask for family tickets, they are not on the list shown at the paypoint.
