The Essential Guide to Hong Kong

"A scenic harborfront promenade on Kowloon that offers spectacular skyline views, a film-industry tribute walk, proximity to major luxury malls and ferry piers, and a particularly photogenic nighttime display as city lights reflect across the water." - Taylor McIntyre Taylor McIntyre Taylor McIntyre is a senior visual editor at Dotdash Meredith, working on Travel + Leisure and TripSavvy. Yelp
There are excellent views of Hong Kong island from all angles and pockets of Kowloon, but the uninterrupted panoramic view from the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade is certainly among the best. Subpar weather aside, the day and night time views here are a photographer's dream, making this easily one of Hong Kong's most visited destinations. On a great weather day, this is my preferred spot for walks along the harbor, people watching, random photography, and generally contemplating the meaning of life. There is no fee / admission to roam near the waters to admire the mighty skyline, making it an ideal spot to get away from the bustle of HK life. There are seasonal exhibitions / performances / productions happening all throughout the promenade as well. Everything from Lunar New Year to the Holiday season celebrations are happening along the waterfront, which makes this space an attractive one for organizations throughout Hong Kong. It's generally a family fun affair, which means tourists and locals alike will be here on any given night. Pro-Tip: Taking night shots without the proper equipment can prove to be difficult. Shoot for early morning or mid-day and beware of the selfie sticks. They're almost everywhere.

Yelp
Hey, do you know that Hong Kong song "Tsim Sha Tsui Susie"?? Well, there were no sightings of Susie here today. This is a nice place to visit in Hong Kong, but it's so crowded and touristy..especially when I went on Xmas eve. We got dropped off by the ferry here. The promenade has nice views and you can catch the sunset. There's the mall right there. I saw many groups of young people playing music live. I got videos I'll post to Youtube. Awesome atmosphere, just so crowded!

Yelp
Victoria Peak offers 360 panoramic views of Hong Kong central and Kowloon, but Tsim Sha Tsui promenade gives you that classic postcard HK island view across Victoria Harbour. My suggestion is to go a few hours before sunset. Take some photos, grab some food around the area, and return just before sunset to enjoy the gorgeous skyline and colorful horizon from the sun setting (assuming a clear day, of course). There's the Symphony of Lights nightly show around 8pm, where laser beams and bright colorful lights glow with a narrative. It's a free event and it gets very crowded quickly. It's fun to watch, but not that exciting and definitely not worth the trek if you're not already in the area. Despite the large crowds mainly of tourists, Tsim Sha Tsui promenade is a must-see in Hong Kong. Who can pass up the beautiful and scenic backdrop of HK Island skyline and all those lights at night? It really is one of the most picturesque skylines in the world!

Yelp
If you are looking for a great picture taking locale, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade is an excellent choice. The promenade consists of the stretch of land between the Avenue of Stars and the Star Ferry. The Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower can be also found here as well as the Hong Kong Museum of Art. But what makes it picturesque is Victoria Harbour and the view of the Hong Kong Island city skyline as it is across the water from Central and Causeway Bay. There are not that many public places I found suitable to take pictures in HK, but this spot is one you are going to want to stop at because of the interesting pieces of public art here along with the skyscraper backdrop. A visit to the promenade and its attractions along with a ride on the Star Ferry across the harbor to Central would make for a great day excursion while touring HK. It might be a very touristy spot, but it is definitely a place you will want to check out while in HK as it is one of those places that you go to prove that you really did visit this city. Shopping and food pictures just don't give off as much of the wow factor as the promenade offers.

Yelp
Well, there is one this about this place, other than the view of course, that makes this place awesome, and that is the laser light show that I believe happens pretty much every night. Yeah, that light show is awesome, and is literally one of those things that makes Hong Kong stand out from a lot of other cities that, well, don't have anything like it. During the day it is pretty good, but honestly, it is even better at night. Oh, and it does get crowded so you made need to get there early if you want a good spot.

Yelp
Come to this place, take some pictures of the harbour, and be on your way. It was windy for us so we should've left earlier. 10-15 minutes tops. Limit that time, get some Tim Ho Wan instead. There's nothing amazing about avenue of stars or the Bruce Lee statue. Full of tourists at 8:30AM. Definitely not a must like some others have said.

Yelp
Must go when your traveling here. Walk by the water. Take pictures with Bruce Lee statue etc. On a warm sunny day, this is a nice calm walk to see the view. Our friends got engaged here by the water, where the walkways are. It can definitely be quite a romantic place for awesome pictures too! It's one of those places when you're traveling in Hong Kong, you just need to go and check out. It wasn't crowded at all when we went, maybe because the weather was chilly. I would go and chill in the area if I lived here!

Yelp
Beautiful waterfront! They have a pretty cool light show around 8pm, about 5 mins from the top of the nearby skyscraper's. The buildings here are beautiful, a lot of restaurants and shopping. A must for tourists! We took the metro to the waterfront to see the beautiful lights at night each night, it's very exciting in this area/downtown and a lot going on. They have a Ferris wheel and a few other small attentions which I avoided like the plague, I'm terrified of heights and the Ferris wheel is at the top of my list of fears... Nothing like slowly turning in the air in a wobbly cart at the control of god knows who.. No thanks! For a few $$ you can take a water ferry across to the other side of the harbor. We did this for the ride alone, pretty cool but can get chilly at night so bring a jacket!

Yelp
Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade is a walkway where you can get fantastic views of Victoria Harbor. It's very picturesque and offers a great photo op. You look across the sea to Hong Kong Island and see the magnificent skyscrapers. If you're planning to go to the light show at night, this is the perfect place to watch it.

Yelp
Looking for a lovely stroll? I am sure I am not the first one to tell you the best place to do so is in Tsim Sha Tsui where you can have the famous picturesque Hong Kong skyline as your backdrop as you slowly walk along the Promenade. If you are not a big fan of the Avenue of Stars, (honestly why would you are a tourists who have little knowledge about local movie starts or a local who was born in the 90s like me) you still have to come here as this is what you see on most of the Hong Kong postcards, the skyscrapers, the reflection of the water and the glasses on high-rise buildings, sky and the mountains, it is THE view you cannot miss in Hong Kong. However, try to avoid the crowd around 8 as it is the time for the Symphony of Lights. (Wait, why am I asking you not to watch a light show that our government spent hundreds of thousands of tax money on it?) Well... it is simply not cool enough to spend 20 minutes watching lights flashing here and then when you are surrounded by hordes of sweaty and smelly onstanders. However, if you are already there and want to give it a chance, I have a suggestion on where to watch it to avoid the crowds - try the first floor of Starbucks there, at least it is not as packed and it is high enough to see the light show. But please do not go there just for this show, do not forget the star here is the skyline. I have no idea how many time I have brought my friends here just for pictures and views, and I enjoyed it every single time. Finger-crossed that the weather is not too foggy on the day you decide to go.

Yelp
Hmm.. the night I was there was far from an 'all-round spectacle'.. it seem like only handful of buildings flashed a green spot light from their top floors into the dark skies.. the music was a fancy yacht cruising on the harbor in front of Tsim Sha Tsui promenade.. ....This is what I was expecting..... Victoria Harbour was a dazzling cityscape on its own, hang around for A Symphony of Lights -- the nightly multimedia show involving more than 40 buildings on both sides of the harbour. Named the 'World's Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show' by Guinness World Records, coloured lights, laser beams and searchlights perform in an unforgettable all-round spectacle synchronised to music and narration that celebrates the energy, spirit and diversity of Hong Kong. There are five main themes: Awakening, Energy, Heritage, Partnership, and the finale, Celebration. The show is free for public enjoyment and no admission ticket is required. Yelp
This place holds a very special place in my heart. This is the location where my fiancé proposed. The sight at night is extremely beautiful and it's the perfect place to take a stroll after a date.

Yelp
Like it a lot ! Just walking at sunset the view of Victoria island is gorgeous !

Yelp
This promenade intersects Avenue of the Stars. I'd almost say it's the same thing as Avenue of the Stars, since the walk is along the harbor, and you will see great views of Hong Kong Island. :) Many people at all hours of the day, you can take photos, eat random stuff from food stands, and even go jogging at your leisure. A fantastic place!

Yelp
This one is a bit of a cliché- everyone knows about the promenade by the harbor. Well, do you? Ask yourself when was the last time that you actually walked the whole thing- from front to end, TST to Hung Hom. I bet that if you are a local you probably haven't done that since your teens when "para-para" was still something new and interesting and there were loads of people dancing to the music by the harbor. Ahh.. those were the days of my youth... Actually, if that's the case with you also- things haven't changed much. Just add in a whole load of Mainland tourists, photographers charging people for photos and just odd bits of ornaments here and there; this place can't really change much. The only thing that would be changing would be the skyline across the harbor which has changed a lot during the last decade or so. For the better or worse? I'll let you be the judge of it. There is the infamous "Avenue of Stars" which has handprints and statutes of our most famous local TV and movie stars. Sounds familiar? Of course, who else does copies like we do. The New World complex is gone now (good riddance I say, that place was a monstrosity) and you really can enjoy the open expanse by the water this way. there are a number of shops/ booths along the way but they are constantly changing hands so you can imagine how good business is once everybody is gone. Its a good place to visit once in a while, it brings back memories and reminds you why Hong Kong is such a beautiful place.
