Walking through the Hortus Botanicus Delft felt like stepping into a living museum of plants. I wandered among themed sections—from medicinal herbs to exotic species—each carefully curated to reflect centuries of botanical study. Beyond its educational value, the garden is also a peaceful retreat, perfect for slow exploration and quiet reflection. My visit left me inspired by how thoughtfully the garden balances research, conservation, and public enjoyment.

The TU Delft botanical garden is something different from what I’m used to, it’s not there to show the most exotic plants and be the most beautiful, but instead, as it’s a technical university, it’s meant to share the different plants and their use in different technologies which is very interesting! It’s a nice stroll, not very big, with some genuinely nice places to sit and be calm, I wish it was a bit more informative in an easy way to learn.

Fairly cheap, nice and calm, good coffee. We liked it

Delft Botanical Garden was founded about 100 years ago. Each plant in it has a name plate in Dutch and Latin. This will help you find it if you want to plant it in your home garden or balcony. All the trees, bushes and flowers are well-kept. There is a greenhouse for tropical plants, including insectivorous ones, as well as a separate greenhouse for cacti. The territory of the Delft Botanical Garden is small. You will take your time to explore it in an hour and a half. Now inside, there is also a temporary exhibition on how the plants were used to produce dyes and cloth. Detailed explanations in English and Dutch. There is a coffee point on the territory of the garden. And near the entrance to the garden there is a cash desk and a shop where you can buy themed souvenirs and even flowers. Another interesting corner is the apothecary "garden". The information plates show how these plants were used in medicine in the Middle Ages. Two metasequoias grow nearby. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely place to spend some relaxing time. Entrance fee is 6 euros for adults. There is a little cafe but you can take your own food and have a picnic. Lots of benches to sit.

A beautiful garden with interesting, varied plants with mixed pottery art dotted around the area. It is decently maintained and you get a map with all the different plant species named. The staff are very friendly and there are options for refreshments.

Take some time out to enjoy nature, commune with plants, watch goldfish or walk through trails. Entrance fee is 4 euros for adults or free with your Museum Card. The park also has a conservatory with tropical plants. There are plenty of benches placed strategically along the winding paths. Appropriately, the entrance is directly across the street from the Vredekerk (Peace Church). You can also eat at picnic tables in a large pavilion. Bathrooms are also available.

If you lower your expectations this could be a pretty cool place. I suggest bringing a picnic and finding some shade or using the gazebo to stretch your time there. We enjoyed the exhibit about the refugee housing and seeing the prototypes.
