I visited the Tubman museum last week. It was a beautiful experience. I really liked the Tyler Perry exhibit. Since it was a field trip we were able to play African drums and listen to a story. It was worth the trip and the staff was very nice.

Nice day trip experience. There was an event taking place on the main floor so we only explored upstairs. Was surprised to see the Tyler Perry exhibit.

She's a hero! She should have her own dollar bill! Makes me tear up thinking about her sacrifices. Every human should learn and strive to be like her! CLOSED ON MONDAYS

Tuman Museum is a great place to visit while in Macon and get a good glimpse into the art, history and culture of African Americans. Well organized (curated) and very educational. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Every piece of art has a message.

The whole museum is breathtakingly beautiful. My granddaughter and I spent over 2 hours there. The Tyler Perry exhibit is well worth the trip! The "Black art wall" is a wonderful representation of Black royalty and other roads that led to us as a strong tribe that will keep up the fight as long as the struggle presents itself! Kudos to Father Keil, founder of this amazing museum. Very well done!

Yelp
This museum highlights a fairly depressed looking downtown area, and while the outside doesn't have a ton of aesthetic appeal, the interior rotunda is quite impressive. It houses a small, eclectic collection of exhibits focusing on subjects ranging from the local music scene to the history of segregation. The titular Harriet Tubman is memorialized in art and sculpture, but I could not figure out why the museum had this focus; Tubman is of course an impressive figure but as far as I could tell she was never anywhere near Georgia (the national park site in Eastern Shore Maryland is the area where she actually lived). Another aspect of the museum which puzzled me a bit was an exhibition on Tyler Perry, who again doesn't seem to have any local ties but is apparently a bigger cultural figure than I would have guessed. A mural on important historical figures is intriguing, but bizarrely excludes native Georgian Clarence Thomas and casually throws in figures like Bill Cosby and OJ Simpson while omitting some rather important pieces of context. Other parts of the museum focus on some starkly negative aspects of local history, as well as inspirational stories of success; military heroes get detailed stories here, but I was also impressed by a wall of black inventors. Overall, I found it a museum with some good highlights, but overall a mixed experience with some unfortunate lapses and not really a large enough place to drive from anywhere not in the Macon area just to see it.

Yelp
A source of inspiration, triumph, and empowerment of African American stories told through Art, Innovations, Videos, Artifacts, and storytelling. Host of an annual Pan-African festival in April and All Souls Jazz Festival in January. An entire gallery dedicated to the Soul of Macon - highlighting Otis Redding, James Brown, and Little Richard among others with stories and artifacts from their recording life. Beautiful fine art and folk art both expressive and abstract from African American artists formally and informally studied in art. Stories of Harriet Tubman's life and journey to free slaves through the Underground Railroad and her dedications to freedom late in life. Innovations gallery of inventions and innovations patented by African and Black Americans along with a highlights mural of black Americans dedicated to civil rights. Give the museum an hour or two to take in all the exhibits, videos, art, and galleries. A great stop for Black History and African American appreciation.

Yelp
Amazing local history included with national impacts and international reach also. Strouds mural as well as the inventions and patents display it was alongside of - must see. Highly recommend going through and exploring the various displays. Immerse yourself in the history and art offered. We also valued the Frederick Douglass display by Mike Glen.

Yelp
Humbling and nice experience. I visited during the cherry blossom event, I didn't have to wait. We walked in got tix and enjoyed the museum. Lots of exhibit's and history of Macon and the lives of African Americans during those times. All the explanations were described in a tasteful manner. The atrium is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure they have many events and rentals during the year. They do have a nice gift shop, which we browsed on our way out. I'm sure in the near future they will add more. Great day to spend with family.

Yelp
This wait was worth it, the museum is spacious, smartly decorated and filled with many items in addition to Harriet's that attributed to aid in the freedom movement. The atrium is beautiful and there are many rooms there that may be used for events. The video on Harriet Tubman, while it stayed very topical, was enough to keep my children engaged and lasted about 5-7 min. Upstairs is also an area for rotating artist exhibits that we enjoy seeing. Hopefully there will be more items and information added to the museum in the future.

Yelp
A very humbling experience. I visited the museum with my mother and grandmother on a Saturday afternoon. The museum is spacious and tastefully exhibits documents and artifacts before, during and after the freedom movement. My favorite exhibit, downstairs, called "Telling the Stories of Macon," recalls the lives of African American greats in Macon, Georgia. I would love to see the museum grow into a nationally known exhibit hall, similar to that of the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.

Yelp
Went to visit this museum with my family and I learned so much. I think it it great for any age group and you can go at your own pace. The staff is friendly and can answer questions. Great small gift shop too.

Yelp
I love this museum. The rotation of art exhibits is very good and keeps it fresh. I'm waiting for the new building so that it can provide more permanent exhibits but other than that nothing bad to say about the place. The guided tours are alot of fun granted you get the right people to do them. A fun time in a small city.

Yelp
Attended the museum when visiting my mother. The art is wonderful. The film upstairs reenacting Ms Tubman's life was very informative. I look forward to returning and visiting the museum at it's new location.
