Tucan Hotel

A unique boutique style place to stay in Uvita Town A very warm and genuine welcome from the owner who spent time acquainting us with the hotel and opportunities during our stay in Uvita. The décor and ambience of the Tucan was individual and interesting with the lounge areas providing a very relaxing environment. Our room 5, while modestly furnished but with air con was very comfortable and the bathroom with walk in shower was a very good size. The rooms were kept clean. Only breakfast is served as there are a number of restaurants and cafes near by for all tastes and meals. The wifi flies. The town and public transport connections are a short flat walk away. If a visit to the falls is made then best enter through the first entrance as the price also includes entrance to the butterfly house. Playa Hermosa is a 10 minute taxi drive away but beware there’s little or no wifi/mobile signal there to book a return ride (speaking from experience!!). What also sets the Tucan apart from many hotels is the attitude of the owner Pierre (Mr Fixit). Nothing is too much trouble, he is so amenable and genuinely keen to go provide magnificent customer service. He willingly gave advice and helped us with our onward transport arrangements. While we’ll not likely be returning to Costa Rica my wife and I have no hesitation in recommending the Tucan and making our stay in Uvita so memorable.

W onderful Stay at Tucan Hotel – Highly Recommended!||We spent three amazing days at Tucan Hotel in Uvita and absolutely loved it. From the first contact until the moment we left, communication was excellent. The staff is friendly, attentive, and truly committed to making your stay enjoyable.||The hotel features a beautiful inner garden – a peaceful oasis where you can relax and unwind. Each morning, there’s a generous breakfast buffet with plenty of options, and you can also order a traditional Costa Rican breakfast, which we highly recommend for a local culinary experience.||We stayed in the converted camper, which the current owner used to travel all the way from Canada to Uvita – such a unique and charming accommodation! It’s fully equipped with everything you need and offers a one-of-a-kind experience that you won’t easily forget.||Host Pierre deserves a special mention. He is incredibly helpful, always available to assist – whether it’s booking tours, giving travel advice, or helping plan the next leg of your journey. Nothing is too much for him, and his local tips are super valuable.||In short: Tucan Hotel is a cozy, welcoming place with a personal touch, great breakfast, a lush garden, and unique lodging options. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I stay at the Tucan Hotel occasionally when visiting Uvita, and on my most recent trip I became unexpectedly very ill after checking out. I returned to the hotel feeling overheated and unwell, and the staff immediately set me up with a room that I ended up needing for four days. Throughout my stay, they checked in regularly by message to see if I needed anything or to extend another night, which was incredibly considerate and comforting. Pierre was my main point of contact, and his kindness made a very stressful situation much easier — especially as I was traveling alone. I believe the other employee’s name was Steven, who was also very kind and helpful. I truly don’t know what I would have done without their flexibility and care. The property itself is beautiful, the rooms are affordable, and the hospitality is genuine. Having worked in the hospitality industry myself, I can say with confidence that the team here provides excellent service. Highly recommend!

We’re a family with two boys and spent five nights at Tucan Hotel – and honestly, we wish we could have stayed much longer! The entire place is beautifully designed and decorated with so much love and attention to detail. This charm continues into the rooms – we had one cozy cabin with a small veranda and one double room. Both were spotless, beautifully painted, and even the bed linen matched the décor perfectly. Our boys absolutely loved the pool, but the hammocks and pool table were also big hits! Pierre, the warm and welcoming owner, went above and beyond to make our stay special. He gave us fantastic tips for exploring the area, and you can really feel how much passion he has for what he’s created and for connecting with his guests. In short – a little paradise for guests of all ages where everyone feels welcome! We truly hope to return to Costa Rica one day… and when we do, we’ll be coming straight back to the Tucan Hotel! ♥️ Nadine&family

Really nice and fun hotel. Huge community space with bookshelves and games. It is a bit loud before 10pm if you sleep early. Great location in Uvita, walking distance from waterfalls, cat cafe, food and the beach.

Really nice stay. Comfy clean room with lovely breakfast. Staff was awesome. It was a last minute stay on a road trip but, we will definitely be back.

I will never come back to Tucan or refer my friends to this place as long as Pierre is running the business. In my 20 years traveling around Costa Rica, I have never had my “credit card on file” for renting a hostel bed. This made me very uncomfortable. If I was sitting at the bar, I’d ok to open a tab with my credit card but not when I rent a room for a night. Pierre and his staff were very rude when I inquired about this policy and, after our argument, refused my stay. Just beware, according to Pierre, he can charge your card at his discretion and you can dispute it with your bank.” I guess it’s a hospitality policy imported from Canada but thank you. I prefer not to leave my card on file anywhere and this is my right.

This Hostel/Hotel was easily one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. Upon arriving Pierre instantly explained everything clearly about the hotel as well as local activities. I didn’t feel like I had to once hesitate to ask for help, and Pierre answered all my questions with a smile. The free breakfast was absolutely fantastic and I was left feeling both satisfied and energised for my daily activities before leaving in the morning - you won’t be disappointed! The AC worked perfectly in the dorm and meant I had 3 very comfortable night sleep’s. Extra privacy was provided by the ‘capsule’ style of the dorms which I loved and found especially good for this part of the world by hostel standards. Everything was clean and the pool was very refreshing and a nice amenity given the intense humidity of being situated by the ocean. The only downside for me was that the cleaner lady was a little rude and upfront about putting my dishes away after I had only just finished cooking. I understand a communal kitchen needs to be kept clean for others but at 3pm in the afternoon (when I made my lunch) it would have at least been nice to enjoy my meal first before washing up as there were no other people around waiting to use the kitchen at this time. Nonetheless, for the price and my overall experience, I can’t recommend this place enough! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
