Google
Food and service were decent. We managed to find a table at a time when the restaurant was full, and it was raining outside. The seafood soup was delicious 😋 FYI - It's more expensive to order soda than beer. It seems to be a trend across touristy restaurants. So if you prefer beer, order one instead of soda. Cheers 🥂 Finally, when in Portugal, try to learn some basic Portuguese words. It goes a long way. Waiters will be more receptive 😉

Google
The alheira caça was pretty good but the fries were soggy and bland. The restaurant is ok, I'm sure there are better ones around but this one in particular is honestly 50/50

Google
Solid dinner experience. Portuguese style food - well executed. Was weirdly quiet in Sintra that evening so restaurant could have used some quiet background music. We both enjoyed our dinners. Good value for money.

This was a nice place to sit down and eat. We got the traditional steak and Portuguese game sausage paired with some red wine. Both dishes hit the spot. The waiter was really friendly and a bit of a hoot.

I am so glad we picked this resurant. TasteAtlas convinced me to come here and it was a great idea ! The owner is really calm, kind you can see he loves this restaurant and his job. The feeling was that we are in his house, in his dining room having dinner. The food was amazing ! I tried the Bacalau dish, specific of the place and it was sooo tasty ! My wife loved the food also, she got the lamb chops, really really good ! Highly recommended there !!

Google
I recommend it! A great place that we found by chance in a small alley next to the Palacio Nacional da Sintra. The setting - a very cozy typical small Portuguese restaurant. The food - the salads and main courses were delicious, but the dessert was definitely the "wow". We ordered a homemade walnut tart. He was great. The service - I give 5 stars because there is no 6. The waiter was exceptional. He spoke Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. He was constantly joking with the guests or himself and making everyone laugh. Like a psychologist, he managed to bring the visitors closer together and it became a very pleasant atmosphere. When he found out it was my birthday, he immediately brought and lit a candle and made everyone sing. Unique!

Google
Ordered their grilled octopus, cod fritters and tomato salad for lunch, all came with no seasoning/taste at all. Tomato salad was simply just tomatoes and cut raw onion and grilled octopus was cold and didn’t seem well prepared. Do not recommend coming here if you want a pleasant dining experience. Got mild food poisoning afterwards as well.

We had such an amazing experience at Tulhas. Nelson was our server and he explained a lot about the history of the restaurant, very attentative, and was great with our little one. The food was great. We ordered clams, grilled cod, and duck rice, which were all spectacular. The rice had a nice crunch and had a side of garlic and shallot oil for even more flavor. The desserts are all homemade. We got the flan and lime mousse. Definitely save room for dessert. Thank you Tulhas and Nelson for a great meal in Sintra!

Yelp
No parking but not a surprise since the tourist town is packed. Really fun service. A little snarky but well natured. Food was really good and affordable as most of the country. Great location in town. Ambiance is nice but a bit to tight but not a surprise given it's a tourist place.

Yelp
A friendly server/owner(?) effortlessly managed to serve everyone without anyone having to wait too long and with great humor. The food was delicious, the table cozy, and the prices reasonable. Location is a bit tucked away from everything else, but I would definitely recommend stopping here.

Yelp
First Impressions: we came in at 12pm on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. Waiter was very kind and explained the menu and gave his recommendations. Also offered us the WiFi so we could Yelp, lol The Noms: Octopus salad - tender and barely chewy Iberico Black Forest pork - tender with good flavoring. Lamb chops - tender and juicy Cod cream soup - very flavorful and creamy Almond cake - a treat since we couldn't be home with family to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Rabbit). It was very good and not too sweet (perfect for us because you know the highest praise from an Asian palate is "not too sweet") would def recommend getting this In Conclusion: one of our best and favorite meals in Portugal. Very consistent as in we enjoyed everything we ordered... other restaurants, our meals were hit or miss around the table. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
After 3 weeks in Portugal and having had a lot of good food. Tulhas was probably the best meal overall in our Portugese experience.

Yelp
what a Find! Had an amazing lunch here. highly recommend. It's a little off the sidestreet which we loved so it's very authentic. Wonderful service, nice ambience, just really good.

Yelp
We were told that Tulhas has been closed for two years. It may reopen sometime next week.

Yelp
It's impossible to understand some of the reviews here. The attentive and knowledgeable waiter was excellent without being obvious. He made very good wine recommendations while educating us on Portuguese, French, Spanish and Italian wines. The food is excellent and typical to Portugal. The shrimp tapas and cheese with walnuts in a bread bowl was delicious. The tenderloin main course was outstanding served medium and Portuguese style. The warm greeting was especially nice on arrival.

Yelp
best hidden secret in Sintra . the dinner , the hospitality, the host - Nelson are wonderful....

Yelp
Go here. Portuguesa style food and it's absolutely phenomenal. Service is top notch. We went for a late lunch and were welcomed in with a kind smile, recommended excellent wines, shared the fresh goat cheese and bread, beef kabob, and a salad. Re previous review of octopus salad with lettuce, yes dear, that's how octopus salad is made...sans lettuce. This is undeserving criteria for an excellent restaurant. In fact you should be reviewing restaurants that serve octopus salad WITH lettuce poorly. Anyway, this place is located just to the right of the tourismo building at the top of the square. There is a sign. Follow it down hill, it's on your right. Issues with service I imagine were an issue with a particular server because everyone here this afternoon made and delivered excellent food!

Yelp
A positive review! Hooray! Yelp should really rename it's self "Moan" as it all seems to be filled with reviews from self proclaimed "Foodies" complaining about the most trivial of things. Just because you take a photo of your food and post it on Instagram for one of your 27 followers to "like" doesn't make you a food critic. "My fish wasn't deboned".... did you ask? No. "The service was slow"... You're on holiday, what's the rush? This isn't 'fine dining' nor is it contemporary, it's a meat and fish restaurant in a hill side town. Pay no attention to the reviews from people with champagne taste, but beer money. €25 per head, so the price is ok and so is the food. I asked for my beef kebab to be cooked medium, and it was. The Sea Bream was deboned by the waiter at our table, no problem. The almond cake was delicious, the waiter was in good spirits so overall, for what this place is I think 3 stars is an accurate and fair review.

Yelp
Horrible food and service. My friend ordered the codfish with potatoes and I ordered the octopus salad. My octopus salad contained NO LETTUCE!!! It contained slices of a tomato, potato, and flavorless octopus. My friends codfish was like an au gratin, it was mostly potatoes and cheese masking lack of flavorless codfish. The codfish was not deboned or scaled. Bread was rubbery. Place is awful and waiter was not friendly.

Yelp
Go early to get the best service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about Portuguese wines and very helpful at recommending wine pairings. We split the garlic prawns and a tomato and onion salad, with fresh mango for dessert. The prawns were a bit overcooked and the tomato a bit green for this time of year (Sep 1). The mango was perfectly ripe and delicious. Towards the end of our meal, the service was slow with only 2 waiters for the whole restaurant.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner. The restaurant is cozy. The waiter was very kind and you could see this is a man that knows his job and understands food and wine. We especially enjoyed the sheep cheese in a bread bowl with walnuts and pumpkin jam, the grilled octopus and the tiger shrip with fries.

Yelp
For some reason this popular restaurant doesn't appear to be in Yelp! This is surprising as it is clearly well known - check out the Trip Advisor comments - and was recommended by our hotel the first night we were in Sintra. It was an OK meal, but nothing special. It is billed as local food, and I guess that is what you get, and it has the décor I imagine you would get in an old fashioned Portuguese inn - apart from the big TV in the corner, which was quickly switched off when it accidentally started showing a porn movie. It is pretty small and crowded, which is fine if you like that kind of thing but a bit irritating and noisy of you don't. Mine host was slightly annoying too: bit of a chatty lad coarsened by long exposure to tourists, I guess, but again maybe some people like mateyness in their waiters. Service was good though. The food was also good in parts. A roasted chorizo sausage was a delicious starter. My wife's fish was good, but the vegetables overdone and swimming in oil. My veal in madeira was very nice but goodness knows why it was served with large helpings of French fries and rice but no other vegetables. The dessert we shared was below average - some kind of cheesecake, but pretty tasteless. Worth trying if the description above appeals to you, but I know from experience there are many other, better restaurants in town.

Yelp
Was visiting Sintra for a family wedding. A few days before the big day, 15 of us went to Tulhas. They did have other customers, but I suspect our group outnumbered them. The head guy, not surprisingly, took good care of us, keeping our wine glasses full. Everyone had a good experience. I ordered octopus and prawns. I had had squid before, but never octopus. I expected similar tastes, but octopus did not taste like squid. It was delicious! Others ordered fish that was deboned at the table with surgeon-like precision. Everyone, and I mean everyone, had nothing but praise for this place. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
One of the best services we have had during our vacation in Europe. Food was good but wine and port service was explained in depth by extremely friendly servers. I'm glad we didn't read negative reviews prior going there.

Yelp
Attentive and friendly service, and quaint atmosphere and good food. Waiter asked what kind of wine and meat we like before recommending dish and drink.

Yelp
I had a very nice experience at Tulhas! It is definitely a funky little place with overcrowded decorations inside. The service isn't exactly friendly, but they are responsive and pleasant once they warm up to you. They accommodated our group when we arrived just at the end of the lunch service and were very welcoming even though it was their downtime. I ate there twice, highly recommend the codfish au gratin. It has the comfort food feel of macaroni and cheese. There is a negative review of this dish, but mine did not have any of these problems--the fish was cleaned and deboned. Overall very tasty! The second dish was the steak Tulhas style. It's a rib-eye cut covered with a mushroom cream sauce, they use fresh mushrooms and authentic cream so it is very rich. It also comes with rice and french fries, their french fries are handcut and delicious! I can add that the grilled sardine had by my companion were excellent, but the codfish cakes were cold by the time they were served. The second meal (lunch) we were aiming for the lunch special but it was already sold out, but the pork chop I had instead was perfectly cooked. Honestly, was probably one of our highlights for Sintra.

Yelp
My wife has been sick to her stomach for five days since we ate here. They might have served squid that they should have thrown away.

Yelp
One of the best services I've experienced in my life. Great food and wine. Staff will give you a great lecture on port wine if you ask for it. We've ordered squid and fried shrimps. Both were great

ralphie r.

Yelp
It irked me that the waiter placed "optional" appetizers (bread, cheese, prosciutto) on the table that you didn't order, but had to pay for if you touched. Food... kebab was good. The rest - octopus, steak, tapas were just okay. Service... rough around the edges.

Dave B.

Yelp
Ate there tonight. Great food, great service. We went with several of the tapas, and they were all great. The host gave us recommendations based on the kinds of things we had yet to try and spoke with us for a bit about our plans for our stay in Sintra. Overall, a great place and we will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Portugal! The sea bass was amazing! The wine was superb. The service was the best. Made our vacation day in Sintra memorable! Abrigado!

Yelp
For the kind of price they charge they should at least say hello to their customer . We sat down , 3 menus were thrown down on our table . We waited 25 minute and no one showed up. The waitress was too busy taking care of her own social media on her cellphone . When we got up a young man showed up, we explained what happened to him. He seemed unfazed and didn't even apology. He also said "Brazilians" as derogatory remark to justify his racism. No that is matters, we were one Brazilian, one american and one Mexican traveling together .
