"No pines or spruces in your state? Simply make do with what you have à la Arizona's Tumbleweed Tree. About a 30-minute drive from Phoenix in Downtown Chandler — and a quirky area tradition since 1957 — the community centerpiece is, quite literally, a pile of nearly 1,000 tumbleweeds formed into a tree shape, sprayed with white paint, dusted with 65 pounds of glitter, and adorned with 1,200 lights. It's truly a sight to behold. If you're in town in early December, don't miss the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights, where you can meet Santa, hear live music, and see the downtown area in all its holiday season glory." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Vantastic regional park and community center. Aquatics, train museum, ball fields, playgrounds and more. This park does not disappoint. Plenty of parking for any size rig or RV. Clean and well maintained. I had full bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.

Google
Beautiful, enormous park. Always a lot of people here but it is so big and there are plenty of ramadas, benches, and picnic tables that out doesn't feel overly busy. My 9 and 10 year olds love coming here every weekend. Also, clean bathrooms and a couple vending machines.

Google
A very happening place. A perfect park for all age kids to play around. Ramada’s (requires prior reservation) around play area are great to celebrate bday and have family get together events. Has plenty of parking space!

Latoya I

Google
Cute park with TONs of covered parking. We did a 5k this morning. It was hot, but the park was able to accommodate a large crowd.

Google
Tumbleweed Park is a gem! It has so much space for the kids to run around, amazing play structures, and plenty of shaded areas for a relaxing family picnic. We love spending Sunday afternoons here.

Google
Beautiful park, many picnic areas across the park, and rest areas. You can spend the evening with your family easily or plan for a team play. Nicely maintained walking trails around the park, I think you can keep walking for hours 😃. There is huge play area for kids and also a huge picking area. The TRC building is in the same areas, which has gym on upper level and activity areas in lower level. My dog loves to walk I this park. This park also has tennis courts, several huge stadium size fields, see the pictures.

Google
Good for morning walks/jogs around the park. Lots of grass, decent amount of trees for shade. Lots of trash bins. Good parking. Seems to be well maintained. A large kids playground. Doggy stations had grocery bags and were sparse. Did not see any doggy water fountains. Cross country team sometimes shows up at the park for training. Various other events are scheduled at the park from time to time.

This was my first visit to the park and I was amazed to see such a lush green lawn during the summer. No doubt that this place is maintained very well. Has good spots to have food with friends and family, a covered play area for the kids, and an ample amount of parking space. This is one of those places in Phoenix where I would definitely be going back again.

Yelp
Tumbleweed Park serves as our tranquil oasis amidst the lively buzz of Chandler. My family and I relish the vast green field for various activities like enjoying a picnic, playing a baseball game, and the playground here is my youngest child's preferred spot.

Yelp
This review is long over due. I first visited this place for a birthday party and then read a little more about this place on city of chandler. I am totally impressed they have amazing facility and classes with some fees. Be it ping pong, tennis, basketball, Zumba, gym, you name it and they have it going here. You can host birthdays and rent the rooms here. note to book well in advance coz they are first come and first serve. Also, they have themes bdays for all ages. Their camps for kids are always booked because they are the best. The customer service is great and the website is very informative too. We love coming here to the park or Just hang out at the recreation center. Many of the major events are hosted here like the ostrich festival, July 4th and much more. Looking forward to their future events and hosting some parties :)

Yelp
I will never use another venue after I discovered Tumbleweeds recreation room!! I rented out the entire space including the kitchen which is very spacious!! They have a door in the kitchen that leads to outside so it makes loading and unloading a breeze! They provide all tables and chairs and they set up to your liking! The space is huge and the staff was a pleasure to work with. The rates are very reasonable and you get a discount if you live in chandler. The room accommodated all of my guests and games and decor! Great location and highly recommend

Austin h.

Yelp
Worth going to it has lots of equipment friendly staff and friendly people there also a walk in track

Yelp
Perfect place to throw my daughter's 6th birthday! We chose the princess party package as it was the best deal and a low stress option for us as the staff facilitates the party. Princess Belle was also included in the package. She was very engaging with the guests and played games as well as sang happy birthday to my daughter. There were about 3 or 4 staff members that decorated based on the color theme we chose. They helped the kids make a Princess crown, served the pizza and cake and cleaned up afterwards. There's a table in the front for the cake and a table in the back for gifts. There were also several seats for parents to sit. Since my daughter's birthday is in late August, our guests really appreciated that this was an indoor, air conditioned party. We also hired a face painter/balloon twister so that there was always something to do. Overall, 10/10 would recommend!

David H.

Yelp
This place rocks! They take your safety serious and with the limit on the number of people in the gym it is like a private gym. Cant say enough about the staff or the facility.

Kim T.

Yelp
Just took Hard Core, Rock Bottom with Bernita! WOW... this is a great class!!! If you are a beginner or EXPERT, this class is perfect! Clearing my calendar to take it EVER week!!!

Susan K.

Yelp
Tumbleweed is the best value in fitness. If you wait for a 20% off sale a visit is a few bucks. Once you pay for the day, you can attend as many classes as you want, walk, and lift weights. The yoga classes are very good. Zumba is a blast. Lots of folks playing pickup basketball and working out. They also have cheap monthly memberships. Great to see a variety of ages having fun with fitness.

Christina V.

Yelp
Wow. The last time I was here I was greeted with horrible service, a mean attitude from the rental staff, and not HALF as much respect as these workers treated me with. But let me tell you Jay and Jacob changed my ENTIRE PERSPECTIVE OF THE SITE! I rented cotton room north and south (interesting name choice) and wasn't expecting any help at all. Alas, I was greeted by two very tall, strong, handsome men named Jay and Jacob. They swept me off my feet from the first instance in meeting them and they were so cooperative and helpful. I had problems with the microphone and HDMI cords and when i tell you these young men got ON IT, it was like i didn't even ask them for help. You can tell they're one of the only ones who really care about their jobs and they do it with such charm, swagger, and efficiency its almost like they've been there for 20 years. They know EVERYTHING about the site and all the questions I had, Jay would answer with the funniest responses! They had me smiling the entire time and I was so blessed to have them as a staff for my wedding, I even gave them some of the leftover food we had. If you rent out the cotton rooms and you have anybody except Jay And Jacob, good luck lol. THOSE are the guys you want. Thank you Jay and Jacob for making my wedding day the happiest day of my life!

Yelp
I really like Tumbleweed Rec Center. They are open late enough that I can get a workout in after work. They have a variety of machines to use. I also really like the indoor track. They also offer a lot of fitness classes, but I haven't tried any yet. It's clean and well maintained. I like working out there.

Mike K.

Yelp
Until hysteria took over common sense this was a great place.... Now,,,, Half the machines in the huge fitness center floor are not available. Fitness balls and other similar accessories are not available anymore. They made chest press machines unavailable for some hysterical reason. You can only be on the fitness floor for an hour than you have to leave and come back later if you can afford the time are not working. Nobody is even within 10ft of each other and you still need a mask, even though in March no mask was required and covid was still reduced.

Yelp
Ballet Class Review (Wednesday @10:30am) taught by Stacy J: As a parent who works full time it's hard to find classes for my two year old to attend. I found this one as it's on a day my mother can take her as the rest of the week she attends daycare while my husband and I work. All other classes for dance that are on weekends and evening tend to be for older kids. That's my first complaint. The center is geared towards stay at home parents. My biggest complaint is that we were essentially kicked out by the instructor due to my child being shy. She turned two in March and she is a only child. The whole reason I put her in these classes is for my daughter to be outside her comfort zone and engage. I was only refunded my $20 registration fee. Of course the instructor doesn't offer to refund the $68 fee paid to her on the first day of class. I don't appreciate paying for a class and being removed after three weeks. We attended three classes! There needs to be a disclosure when signing up for this class that states if your child is shy they will be removed by the instructor. I'm still in shock that this occurred today and that it's allowed by the city. DON'T WASTE MONEY on this class if you happen to have a reserve and shy toddler.

Yelp
At 62,000 Square feet, the new Rec Center in Chandler is brimming with cool opportunities. There is tons of space for racquetball courts, basketball courts, dance studios, weight rooms, teen game room, senior room, kitchen, meeting rooms, PC lab, art studios...there's more. Well done, Chandler! I like the open feel and the connection to the outside with the large courtyard. The walking/running track also has a nice feel as it passes through other areas, although I'm not 100% sure about the proximity of the comings & goings in the large work-out area. I haven't been here when it's really crowded, so we'll see if it's a problem. I'm looking forward to getting my kids involved in some activities here-there is lots available. Even though my kids are older, I really like that there are TVs all over the place with a view of the child care area so parents can keep an eye on the little ones. Nice.

Crystal P.

Yelp
I love their group exercise class! Roberta is the best instructor and she really puts your body to the test. They also have Zumba every night Monday thru Thursday at 8:00 PM, Friday at 6:00 PM and Saturday at 11:30 PM. Laura is my favorite Zumba instructor and she works the Saturday class. Gym has lots of different options for a great workout too!

Mark D.

Yelp
The fitness center is wonderful and has everything a person needs to get in shape. The weight room can get tight during peak hours, so keep that in mind. Two power racks, a smith machine, and dumbbells go up to 125 lbs. One bench press and one leg press. Awesome walking track and miles of cardio equipment. Lots of classes. Front desk super friendly and helpful. The park itself is HUGE and provides a place to jog/run and offers solace from suburbia.

Kay T.

Yelp
This is a really good recreational center. Plenty of dance rooms, space, equipment and even a indoor running track. There's TVs and couches and vending machines too! Outside of the center is a giant park. And plenty of parking. I love that dance and workout classes are held here. Of course, if you want to host your own, you can sign up to do that too. Whatever activity you want to do, I'm sure they are equipped for it. During the summer days, the indoor running track will keep you cool and prevent sunburn! Check this place out! There are fees for using the place so be sure to check the website. You are charged less if you are a Chandler resident the last time I checked.

Yelp
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER: I rented a room (Cotton room North) for a joint graduation party with a close friend, we have attended events held there before and were impressed, anyways it was all good until the party started and the speakers would not work!!! I had 100 guests and no music!! It was horrible and the staff was no help! They shrugged it off casually and did not seem concerned at all!! My party started at 6 and I was completely without music till around 9! We asked the staff if we could move to another room just to dance, and they had the AUDACITY to say they would charge us for both rooms!! We spent 700$ to rent this room and there was no assistance or trace of customer service whatsoever. The party was saved when one of the guests went back home and retrieved one of their speakers. DO NOT GO HERE!! we could've rented a better room with perfect audio for this price!! Not worth it!!

Hilary J.

Yelp
Had a difficult experience today. Went with my 13 year old daughter to the what the TRC website offered as "free" teen open gym usually from 11am-4pm. Were told at the front desk at 2:40pm we'd have to wait til 3pm. (A last minute tournament took over the gym 2-3pm). I was told I could sit and watch my child play for free as well. At 3, went right in to gym. After 5 minutes of shooting around, we were asked by an employee if we had wrist bands. No, no mention of one at front desk. Were asked to go get wrist band. At front desk, different employee told us wrist bands were day passes that we needed to pay for. We left, since we are not members of the rec center, and we got mixed messages from different employees. I have had a membership there before when my kids were in preschool classes there. It's not a value for my family now. Please update website to be crystal clear that free open gym really means free to members only, or a day pass charge is included. Update website when a last-minute tournament limits open court time. Please educate employees to know what each activity requires ($) of customers. And I will remember that free never means free at Tumbleweed Rec Ctr.

Henry S.

Yelp
I hope this is only a temporary one star review, but this is the current reality of how difficult it is to schedule a time to work out on their new system. I love the facility, but it is useless if you can't register an appointment to use it. Please fix the reservation system to make it more user friendly!

Laura S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this park! It is huge! My daughter and I came here for the first time today. She absolutely LOVED playing here. We only spent about an hour here today due to the cold and my pressing schedule, but I was forced to promise we'd be back soon. There are so many cool parts to this park. My favorite is the Farm Land area, with the huge jungle gyms covered by shade. I can see how this would be a great benefit in the Summer. My daughter's favorite part was Critter Land, which featured a giant gila monster and some dinosaur bones that you can uncover. The rec center is ginormous and you can rent parts of it out for different events, including birthday parties. I might be doing that next month when my kiddo turns 5! We will definitely be back to Tumbleweed soon!

Joseph Y.

Yelp
Not much to do but I have them 3 stars because of their pickle ball practice I like that it is fun and for all levels to play

Logie Z.

Yelp
This is by far one of our favorite parks. Have you seen the covered jungle gym? It is awesome! We love coming here. My son could play here for hours. We also ride our bikes along the path. You can stay on the paved walkway or follow the dirt trail that would lead you along the perimeter of the park. There are several huge ramadas and smaller ramadas around the playground to reserve for parties. The recreation center is beautiful. So many classes are offered here. They even do family events several evenings a week! All kinds of activities for toddlers, children, teenagers and adults! Check out the website for more info on this. Come summertime, if your kid is bouncing still off the walls in the eve, take them here to tire them out! I highly recommend this place. Just don't tell too many people!

Kaycie S.

Yelp
This facility is great. They have any and all the fitness classes etc that you may be looking for. They also host a lot of the recreational leagues ie: basketball. It is in a nice little area, surrounded by Tumbleweed park which hosts the ostrich festival every year. They also keep things very clean and organized!

April Q.

Yelp
I'm a fan of this place because: - their staff does their job: they are nice, greet you, and keep the place in tip-top cleanliness state and all machines are operational (meaning they up-keep well) - their classes vary and they have a convenient schedule of different types of classes - it is a modern, clean facility; has an indoor running track and plenty of new machines that have their own TVs with cable; also have a lot of machines and a great selection of free weights for those of us that prefer free weights over cable machines.

Yazmin V.

Yelp
Great park area! It's always clean and very well kept. We celebrated my son first birthday at one of the pavilions and all the kids had a blast. I was lucky that someone cancelled, apparently the pavilions book months in advance. The play area is completely covered, which is a necessity once it starts getting hot.

Julie M.

Yelp
This facility has so much to offer! There is really something for everyone in your family from children up to seniors. The gym is awesome - they have cardio machines, weight machines, free weights and group classes. Childcare is available and I'll be interested in checking that out when my little one is big enough. Room/space rental is available for parties, meetings, etc. Chandler residents get to enjoy slightly lower prices than non-residents, but I think all of the fees are very reasonable. In the heat of the summer, the indoor track is a good place to go to get a real walk in! 10 laps = 1 mile. Tip to Parents: Strollers and children are allowed during family walk times.

Janee P.

Yelp
LOVE Tumbleweed! Both the park and rec center! I'm here several times a week. They have a lot of classes to offer for both adults and kids. My kids are always signed up for something here. The facility is huge! It is really kept nice and clean. The exercise machines are in great condition. Good variety of fitness classes. Memberships are very reasonably priced. My only gripes are that child care is not included in your membership. You can buy a 20 visit pass for $40 for childcare. And they don't have a pool :( Otherwise, I'm a huge fan! Keep a close eye on your kids at the park! It's huge and there are lots of kids so you could easily lose them if you're not paying attention.

J A H.

Yelp
This review is for the step classes on Wed nights and Sat mornings only. Jody is a great step instructor. The class is not your basic, boring step class. She uses the same moves, but in different orders each time, and also adds new moves to the mix each time, as well. Her class kind of reminds me of dance drills or marching band--it's not a bunch of boring "8 on this side--8 on the other side--now 4--now other side, 4--now 2---now 2 on other side--now alternate---" etc. If you used to like step but think it's sooo out now, give this class a try. It's much different than step of yesteryear, and you may be pleasantly surprised. She even mixed it up one week and gave us a sort-of step bootcamp, where we did step things for our cardio, and used weights in between for a dual workout.

Erin B.

Yelp
Membership includes: upstairs includes indoor track, up-to-date cardio and weight lifting machines, free weights, miscellaneous equipment, two racquet ball courts and two dance studios which are used for classes as well as they are available for reservation. The downstairs has a full size basketball court, children's care, more rooms available for reservation from classes to events. Almost all classes are free with membership. There is a wide variety: Zumba, yoga, dance cardio and more. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Membership for two Chandler residents is $45 a month. Prices differ based off city residency and # of people. The hours they are open are pretty nice except for Sundays. But that's not a big thing. Overall much nicer than gyms I've paid twice the amount for and the indoor track is my personal favorite!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Honestly a great rec center. They have an awesome gym, the prices are really good for family packs, and the parks surrounding the center are beautiful and well-maintained. My 4 year old daughter goes to Apples to Zebras preschool and Club Pee Wee as well. She loves her classes and they are actually helping her get ready for school. She has "homework" each week and loves going each day. I highly recommend this for parents wanting to prep their kiddos for school. Unlike the Chandler Community Center Apples to Zebras program, this one actually has a decent curriculum. Although, the other program is great as well if you are wanting a daycare type environment instead of preschool. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and registering for classes online is super easy. If you haven't stopped by, go check it out!

Vero V.

Yelp
We LOVE this park AND rec center! We've used everything from the sand volleyball court to the great jogging trails to the playground area. The playground has a great little section for tiny toddlers as well as school-aged children. Their barn-yard themed ramadas are perfect for little birthday parties - they even have large sized ramada areas for bigger parties. But book months in advance, because they're pretty booked - especially in Spring. We were unable to hold one two weeks before we needed it. The recreation center has a great area(s) for pre-teens (fully equipped with video games, basketball court, computers, etc.) and a day care center which is videotaped and shown on monitors throughout the gym upstairs for parents. This park and recreation center is definitely a perk of being a Chandler resident!

Mark T.

Yelp
I stopped by yesterday for a Zumba class with my friend. What an incredible facility! Nice jogging trail, state of the art machines, two large courts for basketball. AND they had Dance Dance Revolution! I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often! For those without a pass, it only costs $4 for a day pass. Well worth it!

May P.

Yelp
One of the best and biggest park here. I think the scenery is beautiful and spacious. There is a park along side many places to walk your dog or play football in. I love it here. I feel like a little kid coming here. Also, they have shade (which is a must especially for the summer time). I just came here today for the Fourth of July Fireworks and it was beautiful and packed with so many kids and family screaming, "Oooo, ahhh!" It was wonderful!!

Angie S.

Yelp
Our dd took a few classes like Apples to zebras & Bldg Blk over the past few months. It has been a great experience not until lately. She came home complained about one of the boy bullying her - physically punching her. It wasn't once and twice, it was in several occasions. We went to alert one of the main 'instructor' - she said it has never happened before?! While our dd was literally crying when we told the instructor because she was so scared that after letting them know, that boy will 'beat her up' even worse. In various occasions, we went to picked her up and we noticed that the younger instructors were standing around, chit chatting and not paying attention to the kids. It was a BIG class, 16-18 kids in a room with maybe 4 or so instructors (whenever they can get them in) Mind you, they are only "instructors" because they are staff for the City of Chandler, NOT 'qualified pre-school trained' teachers having any kind of certification - at least not ALL of them. We learnt that one of the staff working there was asked to stand-in once in awhile when they are understaffed. That's why their fees are really affordable. We coached our daughter as we understand that we as parents need to take responsibility in coaching her how to deal with such bullies, however, we also need to alert anyone out there who still want to send their kids in to be aware that the instructors need to be better trained in this aspect.

Virginia S.

Yelp
We just moved to the area and were looking for a good place to work out. We decided to try the rec center and got a 1 week trial period. We worked out at different times during the day and were always able to get a treadmill or elliptical. I love that the classes are included in the month to month membership-no contracts too!

Jose T.

Yelp
I've been taking my kids here since they were toddlers. They love coming to Tumbleweed. I can honestly say that it is the best park in all of Chandler. We have held BBQ's here on special occasions, and each and every time, we had great experiences. Reserving a ramada is quick, easy, and inexpensive. Special events such as the Ostrich Festival and the 4th of July Fireworks are always fun and organized. The only complaint I have about the big events are the port-o-potties... but then again, NOBODY likes those things. There are no lights in those things, and when the sun goes down, you're left taking a shot in the dark... LITERALLY. I thought I was being smart and prepared when I took about 4 glow sticks with me to the port-o-potty on the 4th of July celebration. It was about 9:20PM, and man, those things didn't help my situation at all. I'm a dude, so going #1 is no big deal in one of those things, but man, I have daughters, and I'm certain my wife has a hell of a time assisting them when they have to do their business. I propose special upgraded upscale port-o-potties, especially designated for female guests. I'm certain they will highly appreciate it. All men would need is a big rectangular tent with a trough in it, and we'll be AOK! I still gave this place 5 stars, because my complaint was only for special events. On a daily basis, the on-site bathroom facilities are well maintained and clean.

Aaron L.

Yelp
Great place for a gym, racquetball courts, tennis courts, fields, etc. They also hold the city events there often... great classes and activities for kids.

Marissa M.

Yelp
Come here to workout and/or do Zumba quite often. It's pretty to the point and I love that they offer so much. My husband came to work out with me once and he was told he was not allowed to show me how to work out on certain machines which I thought was pretty ridiculous. They said, "no personal training allowed" which I get but once I said it was my husband and he was showing me how to use the machines they still wouldn't let it happen. Weird. So I don't use the machines too often but everything else I like.

Cynthia O.

Yelp
Yesturday was my first time going to Tumbleweed Center. I liked it alot! I took beginners Zumba! I will definitely go again!

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Went to a family night event there yesterday. It was trolled themed. They advertised arts and crafts and games. The only thing they had was crafts. No games. Not to mention the room was a little small for the amount of people they had. The concept was great. I wish they would have had more activities as there was a space outside the venue that they could have had games (like advertised) and other activities. I also wish they had more activities or things for toddlers as my niece was unable to do anything . To be fair the price was 2 dollars so I guess we get what we paid for.

Karl C.

Yelp
This place is a great place to work out at. Very family orientated and not alot of wanna be meat heads.

Molly S.

Yelp
I believe it is a very nice park to enjoy in this neighborhood. I went there for an elementary school race and another time to use the volleyball courts and have had pleasant experiences. The cleanliness was not as clean as it should be with toilet paper spread around the restroom. But I didn't expect it but the soap dispensers where full and working. The park itself was adequately clean though. Overall, I think the park is adequately clean and comfortable while I was there. The park is big enough so you will have room to do any activity that you please. There is a volleyball court, open field, and even the recreation center. The path is open to enjoy a bike ride or a job. The volleyball courts and the fields are also open for other activities. The recreation center offers many opportunities of classes and events to attend. There is space for anyone and everyone to enjoy while at this park. Overall, I would recommend the use of this park to anyone looking for a nice park to go to.

Tish M.

Yelp
I have been a member here for a little less than a year. We go about 2-3x a week & love it! We bought the year pass because it was cheaper that way & we wanted to be more committed than the daily or monthly pass. I have been a member at other gyms but not as impressed as I am with the atmosphere here at Tumbleweed. It has an indoor track to get out of the AZ heat. The gym also offers racquetball which is a fun alternative to workout. They offer an array of classes (Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Core Conditioning, etc) which are included in your membership!!!!. You can't find those options for the same rate anywhere else that I know of. The people are professional & friendly - there is no haggling over membership price, commitment, or being approached by personal trainers. On that note, they do not have any personal trainers, which if you are someone who needs motivation or accountability, this probably wouldn't be the place for you. But for the price & option of the daily pass - you could bring a workout buddy anytime!!! The other side to joining a Rec Center is that you are supporting your city & giving back to the community - not supporting some big money hungry corporation! Check it out!!!

Cathy W.

Yelp
I have been a member of this gym for many years and truly like the staff and people that work out here. My only complaint is there isn't a Pilates class at night.

Claudia H.

Yelp
Great value free classes various activities for families, not fancy but gets the job done

Denise C.

Yelp
Best rec center ever. Love all the classes, indoor track (albeit .10 mile, gets boring, but in the summer I'll take it!), equipment, racquetball and CHILDCARE! Only $2.50 per kid (Chandler resident, it's slightly more for non-resident) for 2 hours of childcare while you're working out - awesome! It's cheaper if you buy the virtual punchcard (I think it goes down to $2/child). My husband and I pay $45/mo for the two of us - it's month to month no contract and this includes all the classes, including spin, yoga, hot yoga, bootcamps, step, aerobics and zumba. We've been coming for I think it's been 6 years now. I've been impressed with the instructors too. The Treehouse (childcare) workers are great with my girls who LOVE going to the gym with us because they get to play there. Only downside is that there's not much for pre-teens and the area where they're supposed to go while the adults work out is downright boring - this is the only reason I marked 4 instead of 5.
