Tune Stay Kyoto (Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Playing somewhat against type in this famously traditional city, Tune Stay Kyoto is a modern minimalist boutique hotel aimed at literate, rather than luxury-hungry, travelers. The centerpiece of the hotel is the lobby’s colossal library and staircase, featuring some 2,000-plus volumes selected by Numabooks for their connections to the city; the shelves descend to the lower level where you’ll find the hotel’s café. The rooms are compact, efficient, and simple to a degree that’s remarkable — there’s a shared kitchen for preparing your own meals, and common space for reading and relaxing." - Tablet Hotels

We chose Tune Stay Kyoto for its convenient location near Kyoto Station, and while we had an overall functional stay, there were a few issues potential guests should be aware of, especially those traveling with young children or significant luggage. The check-in process was complicated because the hotel initially tried to charge extra for our baby, despite the baby being included in the original booking through Booking.com. This was sorted out eventually, but it caused unnecessary stress. If traveling with a baby, double-check directly with the hotel that their system correctly registers the child's stay, even if the third-party booking site confirmed it. The room was extremely small. We could only fit one large suitcase halfway under the bed (it was still poking out) and had to put the second suitcase right next to the door. This made moving around very difficult. On the positive side, the bath was excellent and we were even provided with bath salts, which was a lovely touch. The in-room amenities also included very comfortable sleeping pyjamas. A major highlight was the downstairs area, which features a large kitchen, dining area, and a comfortable library space. This was a great place to relax and prepare light meals, and it was conveniently equipped with a microwave and hot water. The location is conveniently near Kyoto Station, which is excellent for transport, but there's not much to do right outside the hotel. I would not recommend staying here if you are a large family, travel with big suitcases, or plan on staying for more than a night or two due to the tight room size.

A bit of a disappointment. I was expecting this cool book store with a little gin bar. Don't get me wrong the book shelves are beautiful, but the stairs give university vibes. Which means it is not comfortable, always cold and not cosy what so ever. No one was ever reading or working there, understandable. The gin bar was the real hoax. It is just some gin bottles behind the elongated reception, so expect to order a GT whilst people are checking in and out, near the entrance and between the storage of the suitcases. And to top it off you can enjoy that GT in a vibe less canteen like area next to the reception. The kitchen I can understand people liking this, however it also means getting a cup of tea late at night downstairs as there is no option to make a cup of tea or coffee at your room. Oh and you cannot even park your bike, so if you rent it for a couple of days expect to walk a lot to even park your bike. Overall just a nice hostel. The plusses, the bed was good and the shower was really lovely. Unfortunately overal very disappointed. ps. A fire alarm check at 10 am is a bit unnecessary and whilst you check the alarm, the window in the room was locked (with no key available), so maybe check that too.

The hotel is simply amazing. We left our luggage before check-in and went to explore the city. During check-in we were offered welcome drinks, which was a very pleasant surprise. The room was excellent - beautifully designed, so that even with a small area there was space for our belongings and suitcases. The reception area is very beautiful, and you can order cocktails there and relax. I will definitely come back to this hotel again.

The room was clean and comfortable, a bit small but as expected. The staff were super friendly and helpful, which made our stay really pleasant. The breakfast didn’t have many options, but we still really enjoyed it. The location was excellent, close to bus, train, and metro stations, with Nidec Kyoto Tower just nearby. There are several convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Family Mart within a short walk, plus a coin laundry room which was very convenient. Great stay overall!

The staff here are incredible. I was fully prepared to communicate in Japanese but was surprised at how well they speak English. They are kind and incredibly helpful. The gin bar is fantastic, and it was a pleasure to try Japanese gins. The happy hour deal is great! Rooms are predictably small but very clean, with plenty of storage space. Bed is firm, just the way I like it! Plenty of extra towels and pillows are available as needed. I reserved the private bath, which was REALLY nice after a particularly long day of walking. The communal kitchen/dining space is great too! Very glad we chose to stay here ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ )

It was a perfect one-night stay for solo traveler like me. Location is walkable from Kyoto Station and Tower. My room has no balcony, comes with a great size and space up to two persons, very reasonable for the price. The staffs are friendly and helpful. They can speak English really well and have been very helpful. You could also leave the luggage until 11 PM on the check-out day. I will definitely stay here again.

Google
5/5 hotel. Best so far for us in Japan. Rooms are limited size but the services makes up for it. There is a kitchen area and bath on the ground level, and a common space where they sometimes play movies or you can relax having a drink. We would love to come back

I stayed here for 6 nights. The room is quite small but relatively clean except that the room has a fusty smell. They don't have daily cleaning service so you will need to grab new towels and amenities from the ground floor - acceptable for the price. The WiFi is not good enough as it often gets disconnected due to poor signal. The AC blows air directly to my head when laying down or sitting on the bed (despite I've adjusted the vent to the top most position), so I had to sleep on the opposite side of the bed with my head below the wall-mounted TV or turn the AC off temporarily. I would recommend move the TV next to the window if the hotel gets renovated next time. The staff speaks English well. It's close to the Kyoto station but still needs a bit of a walk. But since most of the bus routes for tourists go to the Kyoto station so you will be able to find bus stops near the hotel. The laundry is a bit dirty as the washers and dryers don't seem to have been cleaned for a long time as you can see dusts accumulate at the corners of the lids.
